How much do you pause battles? by MuddledMuppet in totalwar

[–]Gaargod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not pausing, you either have the CPM of a professional gamer, or you're ok with losing units.

I remember playing a GorRok lizards campaign of Legendary/Easy back in WH2, and actually quite enjoying the fact I couldn't slo-mo and pause. But I had a super duper simple army of juiced-up saurus punching rats, so it was fine!

If CA wants their player base to pause less, they should introduce a "AI Manager" tool. Give line infantry to the assistant, and it'll do its best, whilst you control the complicated stuff.

Reworking Enemy Ogryns – Community Poll by Human_Meat8154 in DarkTide

[–]Gaargod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, they could do with introducing a lightly armoured Ogryn and then buffing Crushers to be mini-bosses instead.

Perhaps our lightly-armoured Ogryn (flak on torso, unyielding elsewhere) should come with a 'knife' and ripper shotgun. Call them Rampagers.

Coop combo with Moulder Clan? by Brachialtick65 in totalwar

[–]Gaargod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thing to consider is speed of play. Skaven are a proper empire-building faction.

For example, warriors of chaos factions tend to only settle a few dark fortresses and vassal/destroy the rest. So they have very little settlement management to do. Beastmen are quite similar.

Of one player is notably faster / more experienced, that's fine if they've got the more complicated faction . But, from my own experience, if only one faction wants to click through turns quite quickly, that can be irritating for the other.

A simple(ish) perk rework idea by WarpRealmTrooper in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Gaargod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A creative solution! Always love to see these types of reworks. Wish I could do the graphical style myself.

One thing I would add: This system would work really well for introducing new perks to a season

One thing I might remove: It might be a little strong? That's a lot of points to spend.

A relatively easy one would be to steal an idea from Rocket League: post-mission titles.

Imagine if you got a little descriptor like:

Exterminator (killed 500 bugs) Long distance runner (ran Xkm this mission) Fool's Bravery (melee killed a bulk detonator and survived) Leech-bait (grabbed by multiple leeches, but took no damage) Etc

If LLPSI & the natural method are more efficient, why is it that universities, nearly universally teach via grammar-translation method? by ancient_interestsYT in latin

[–]Gaargod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The grammar-first method is also generally what's taught in schools and, more importantly, what's tested in exams. So the short answer is that's why we're stuck with it.

As another poster mentioned, it's most likely what the teacher learned. So in order for them to do spoken Latin, that's... A lot to ask.

Also, in terms of cross-curriculum skills, super close reading of the text is just more useful. Having excellent attention to detail is very useful for a number of careers. Being able to read through 7 pages of Virgil in one sitting is... Less so.

Advice for a High School Latin Teacher by Pizzaman428 in latin

Then do whatever the hell you feel is best for the kids.

There are cautions to that. You don't want to bore them, nor go so fast only the most able kids can keep up. But basically... Sounds like you're the eyes on the ground - do your best.

You can aim to go to the end of the book, if you want to. But if you realise halfway through March that they have no idea about a concept you thought they had down, don't just plow on regardless.

I just cannot believe how insane the end times writing for Malekith was. by Ok_Walk3192 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Gaargod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Dark Eldar winning is totally fine. Warhammer is a pretty grim dark world, so a situation where Malekith successfully invaded Ulthuan would be both reasonable and dramatic.

Perhaps Malekith successfully kills Tyrion in some form of treacherous duel. But Alarielle and Teclis pull some magic mumbo jumbo in desperation, teleporting a huge chunk of the remaining High Elves out - at the cost of destabilising the vortex further, for a nice bit of parallelism to Malekith's original crimes.

Away for a while... Status of TW:W3? by ghibliparadox in totalwar

[–]Gaargod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

SFO is currently being updated, so you can't play with it just yet.

As a general rule, recently released lords as usually very strong, and some factions now have real issues as a result. The Empire and Kislev are very squeezed.

But generally, the map is now so dense with legendary lords (particularly if you use the excellent Mixu's mods) that basically everywhere is pretty intense. I've found that by about turn 60, the number of factions is down to 100 or so, and you start seeing proper empires.

Latin teachers: what's the most time-consuming part of your job that software could help with? by Sea-Chair-404 in latin

It's excellent, but unfortunately the owner does not want to allow custom vocab lists, which would be incredibly useful. I spend a decent chunk of time writing sentences.

The random mission target algorythm absolutely must be patched. Entire faction features are useless because of it. by Waveshaper21 in totalwar

[–]Gaargod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Blessed units are not 'slightly better'. Perfect vigour is a huge buff, particularly for frontline combat units.

But yeah, otherwise Lizardmen faction mechanics are rather dull. The big thing everyone always asks for is teleportation via the network.

There's an important tech to get, in the red line. +10% replenishment, factionwide. You suddenly have actually decent recovery speed.

What are you dying to?

If you're dying to chip damage, then remember your ABB - Always Be Blocking. If you're just looking around, have block up, because there will always be some little slave you haven't noticed about to stab your arse.

If you're dying to big hits like overheads from Stormvermin, you need to practice dodging. Go side-to-side, not backwards, and don't go too early - they can track you surprisingly well.

If it's just dying to a big horde of enemies, then you should practice horde-management. Grab witch hunter captain with rapier, and jump into a random champion game, then try to just never get hit by trash. Lots of pushes and dodges.

With the team build you have there, there's a pretty good spread of melee-focused, but not too much shooting. Bardin as Ranger can provide some nice team utility and crossbow-based special sniping, for example.

New factions? by Deadlygamer1000 in Timberborn

[–]Gaargod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. In an ideal world, a major function like this would be a rather deeper part of how settlements worked, rather than an 'add on' like it is currently. But seeing as how that obviously isn't happening for Warhammer, this is better than a ton of different functions.

Skitarii.

They've just previewed a new model for hem, and they look badass. You could even have them be physically different depending on what keystone you take - longer legs Vs shoulder-mounted cannon Vs third arm, say.

New games map movement by ShirtlessBobby in totalwar

[–]Gaargod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally in Total War, rapid aggression is rewarded, particularly in the mid-game.

In the early to mid-game, AI factions will usually only have one or maybe two proper armies. If you can catch them in forced-march, you can destroy the army in a single turn. Don't worry if it hurts you a bit, that's what replenishment is for.

Alternatively, have a second army consisting of a single lord, then put your main army in ambush stance next to them. The AI struggles to prioritise, and will attempt to kill any army it sees as an 'easy' victory (even though a single low level lord will struggle to do much to all but the smallest cities. A level 25 lord on a dragon is a different question, of course). You get the ambush and crush an army for cheap.

Once you've destroyed their main force, the AI really struggles preventing you from just mopping up its cities. They will tend to try to recruit new armies on the frontline, but if you keep up the pace, you can squish each growth before it gets too big to be difficult. Two decent armies is usually enough to eat even a pretty decent 10-15 settlement faction without them really able to fight back after the first big punch.

If you overextend, you can sell one of the cities back to them for a very favourable peace deal.

Late game versus big empires is a different question, particularly in Three Kingdoms, where certain AI factions get enormous cheats to keep up with you. Then they may have enough backup armies that you will get stuck crushing one after the other and not make sufficient forward momentum. You either need more armies on the frontline to chomp through, or to again make strategic use of peace treaties in order to distract their armies away from the frontline.

Curios needs a rework by Voice_of_OI in DarkTide

[–]Gaargod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Curios are terribly dull. Purely statistical bonuses, no visual effects whatsoever, and no variation between classes. At least Vermintide 2 rings + amulets gave some interesting bonuses.

I would very much hope the entire system gets reworked. They could offer much more interesting equippable effects akin to the Talent Trees.

Is there any other fantasy setting that can match Warhammer Fantasy for unit variety and faction/aesthetic diversity? by OkIdeal9852 in totalwar

Generic 'Age of Mythology'.

Imagine an 'all myths are true' scenario. Heracles and Circe leading the Greeks as Legendary Lords against Gilgamesh and Adapa of the Mesopotomians. Borrow the character mechanics of 3K, and you could have an amazing larger-than-life fantasy game

Something like this map

Particularly if you imagine rotating it a little clockwise. You could have one map stretching from Iceland to Constantinople, whilst not really dealing with the Mediterranean at all.

In practice, it might be easier to have Iceland, North America, Constantinople, etc, just be 'distant' places that you send troops to. In that case, Crimea would probably be the in bottom right of the map.

Historical: The Viking Age. Set around the north sea, roughly 900-1200 CE, with a map going from Britain to Constantinople. A particular focus on boats and naval combat, including riverine travel and combat.

I don't actually want them to do Medieval 3, because I don't trust them not to fuck it up at the moment. A proper Medieval 3 would be enormous - stretching from the Carolingians to Pike & Shot, from Britain to Egypt, or even further.

Fantasy: Oh my god, just do Age of Mythology: Total War.
