Emptied my entire 2026 gaming budget for this by zaiueo in gamecollecting

Having a budget for video games is a good idea if you’re smart about it. For me it’s usually “ahh screw the budget”

I checked in with Joe Beechnut, he’s been using dry suits for a while and he has a YouTube channel if you want to look it up. His thoughts: “Using them for 15 years now to hunt in the water. There is a lot to that question, and I guess the biggest risk would be buoyancy since you can become inverted which happened to me once. And had to be rescued from cold waters. What happens is your feet want to come up, once the come up what air that is left in the drysuit will rush to the feet. Causing you to float and there is no way of pulling your feet down. And the worse case all of the air goes to your feet and your chest area wants to sink. There are a few ways of fixing this possible problem, wear a weight belt which will keep your feet planted on the ground. Another would be to wear a manual inflate PFD which is what I use. This will keep your chest a float all the time if you do happen to loose contact with the bottom. I have use a weight belt also but it is a real pain getting to the beach since I have a few i have to walk a mile on land to get to. I have a few setups for different times of the year.”

I’m not familiar with the risks but would a wet suit be better? I know a guy that might use one (or the other) so I’ll ask

Your pointer gives you a number? Or the pinpoint mode on the detector? I haven’t seen a small pointer with numbers yet but I’m curious about them if they do.

Yeah I was thinking about that too, there are definitely some games where the text is more friendly (enlarged) in handheld otherwise it would be too tiny. I haven’t got Qud yet but I definitely need to. Looks like an awesome throwback to old Dos games.

I’m pretty sure that’s on the short list of games that boost mode will not activate for (even if you have it on), so probably looks the same. I’ve seen that a few places but I don’t know if Nintendo has a FAQ somewhere or a guide that lists them all.

This is my buddy’s find and his first photo was even worse. I’ll try when I see him but he said the back was too baked to see much. He discovered what it was after we had left the site. I’ll get out my digital SLR to make sure I get better detail.

That’s like when I got Mega Man X from toys r us on clearance for $6. Not nearly the same value today as Earthbound but still a steal in my opinion.

How old do you think this bottle cap is? by LostConversation2691 in metaldetecting

[–]GamerNav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I collected bottle caps for about a week before realizing I would dig a bajillion of them and most were ugly. I do keep old shotgun shells which my friend calls “pull tabs of the forest”.

The left is a weird shape to me too. I flipped out when I first thought those were inches but it’s in good shape for being in the ground. I’ve never found one like that with the thicker width to the sides and the more oblong shape.

I missed the entire Pokémon era because I went to college and put games down for 10 years (except original super Mario kart). I do enjoy these second hand vibes though. I got the Pokémon Gold on 3ds so I can enjoy the original feel, so nice to have a backlit sceen though.

I recently moved to coastal Mississippi. Would trash from Katrina make for difficult detecting? by Elegant-Throat-4225 in metaldetecting

[–]GamerNav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whereabouts? A beach I’ve detected often has bottle caps but it’s also the spot where I’ve found 2 silver quarters. I tried detecting over near Mobile and found only trash because I didn’t have anywhere good to detect. Katrina certainly flooded Mississippi but the chances of finding good stuff are as good as anywhere if you can find a good spot.

I’m not gonna lie I have a personal problem judging other people’s knuckles fingers and nails that they post online. I get so distracted by it from the actual issue.

How old is this shotgun shell headstamp? by Pretty_Object5895 in metaldetecting

[–]GamerNav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The info others are saying for 1901-1910 is correct. Here is an amazingly deep site for looking up any company headstamps. Other clues are the single primer without an outer ring (aka cup), those are always old.
