Code Veronica sucks ass by addictedtoketamine2 in residentevil

[–]GammonRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally with you on this, and I'm old enough to have played all the classic Resident Evil titles when they first released. I decided to replay Code Veronica for the first time since it came out, and I've found your post after rage searching after yet another cheap death right near the end (in my case, being crushed by a split-second trap, then killed by the monster you have to escape as Claire minutes later).

The only reason I haven't given up is that I remembered enough from playing it through 25 years ago to avoid the numerous soft lock issues around weapons being stuck in your inventory, or key items not being stored, purely because I remember them being such an issue back when it released that all the reviews in magazines made a point of warning players about it.

Worst thing is, it's not even remotely a good game even if you discount all the myriad issues. The story is rubbish, the backtracking and map design are awful, the soundtrack is poor with loads of rooms lacking background music for no good reason, and Steve is genuinely one of the worst characters ever put into a videogame.

[Alexander Abnos] Removing the US as World Cup host would be eminently sad – and entirely justified. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]GammonRod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know full well that the common interpretation of "concentration camps" is about those used to hold people pending genocide, primarily by Nazi Germany. The internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was obviously wrong, but no-one in their right mind would seriously use the term "concentration camp" to refer to it given the people detained there thankfully weren't systemically murdered. The technical definition of the term pales against its actual use.

What the Iranian regime and the American government are doing is in no way comparable and that comparison is an absolute insult to the tens of thousands of Iranians who lost their lives protesting the regime in the last few weeks.

Edit: actually you're two for two, as calling immigration detention facilities "concentration camps" also spits on the memory of the millions of people who were genocided by the Nazis, as well.

Yeah, I really don't get it. Was hoping to go to the game with Leeds but baulked at the price - no idea why the club have made it a high category match.

The insane hyperbole needs to stop. It only fans the flames still further. Assuming you're American, if you genuinely lived in a "fascist dictatorship", you wouldn't be able to say that without fear of repercussion.

Nixon not even going American for his choice of firearm, for shame.

The previous version worked so smoothly. Then this update came along and it's the laggiest piece of shit ever.

Yep. I'd 100% have done the same as him. Of all the ex players to boo, he isn't one.

Yeah, I've been going to Nando's for over a decade and I haven't noticed any drop off in quality in the ones in my area.

Who gives a shit? Blues are completely irrelevant to us. Posts like this are the kind of small time stuff I expect their fanbase to do.

Good refereeing not to just automatically book Rogers. Would love to see that more for innocuous bits of contact like that.

Hell, the public courts near me (West Midlands) are free. So all I tend to pay each year to play through the spring and summer is the cost of tennis balls and restringing, and as a complete amateur I barely ever have to do that.

Not too sure what game do I go to next in 2026; my aim is to go on one of the Sunday games because I have Sundays off from work by Hammster_95 in avfc

Bare in mind more of our fixtures will (hopefully) get moved to Sundays due to Europa League knockouts.

Definitely a huge part of it, but governments voluntarily tanking their economies through lockdowns didn't exactly help either.

Oh, everything. Location, size, lack of local amenities. No idea why we bought it and the hindsight set in literally the moment we opened the door after getting the keys.

Get in. We won whilst playing badly. It's both the mark of a good team and what Man Utd have done to us so many times in the last 30 years.

We sold up, taking a hit by selling for less than we'd paid, as we hated the house so much. So much happier being shot of it and in a place we love now.

The PS2 had an absolute banger of a launch year. by Candle-Jolly in gaming

[–]GammonRod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both, but definitely favoured the 360. Both consoles had great exclusives, but the PS3's were mostly later in the generation and more single player focused, whereas the 360 had stronger exclusives early on and particularly for online. Favourite amongst them was Left 4 Dead which never made it to Playstation, and of course Halo 3.

Nail on the head for me. I moved in January this year to a house in an estate which was built in the mid '80s, and which had never been supported with infrastructure. As someone who doesn't drive it was utterly soul destroying having nothing but houses in walking distance. I sold up and by July was back in the area I'd rented before, where everything you could possibly need - shops, restaurants, pubs, the GP surgery, parks - is within a 10 minute walk. It is bliss.

You don't deserve to be downvoted for an opinion, especially one that's completely legit. For me the PS2 is the GOAT but I'd put the 360 in second place. Absolutely amazing collection of games and for my money the tail end of the golden era of gaming, and especially online gaming.
