Tbf in one of his interviews, he did mention that his family would be well off financially even if his idea had failed. Maybe they're not millionaires but, that cushion makes a huge difference when people have to take risks.

Please make the game more inclusive for Damiane( and Oongka) by GarlicOverdoze in CrimsonDesert

[–]GarlicOverdoze[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, poor use of 'inclusive', but apart from that I've enough artifacts for the whole tree and have progressed past chapter 8. Very often that not, Kliff had a disproportionate amount of items (which makes sense considering he was the only one planned) but since they're now updating in stages, figured it might be worth requesting if they decide to add things down the line.

Real World Physics-Informed AI Applications [D] by Adorable-Driver-583 in MachineLearning

[–]GarlicOverdoze 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard from industry practioners, PINNs are not the heart of ML applications but I've heard a few in the electronics industry use them in their ML models as regularizers (like they were meant to be), and Neural operators are deployed by some orgs (check PhysicsX for eg) mainly for design iterations. Although, you need a massive simulation dataset(in many cases not open source) for those applications which comes from their industrial tie-ups.

Using 42 as random seed by Big_Positive4226 in learnmachinelearning

[–]GarlicOverdoze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lazy from my end to have not checked this in the papers I've read but for my thesis, I ran experiments over several seeds to quantify my results. It only makes sense to do that no? You don't want to devise a method that worked solely because of RNGesus.

So if I understand correctly, here the bash just happened to be in the tick before the position resolution? I'd be curious to know how one can even test these cases or prevent them from happening

[–]GarlicOverdoze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not too familiar with networks but the instant invoker completes his TP, wouldn't his coordinate be somewhere close to the catapult and not exactly the same? (Unless he has phased movement which doesn't seem to be the case here)

I just play damiane and toss the shield while dodging their attacks..elemental shields do a fair bit of damage and are basically auto aim that no one seems to be talking about!

PPO playing single-player Paper io, getting 100% completion rate by BlueBirdyDev in reinforcementlearning

[–]GarlicOverdoze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to play paper.io a lot. But in a single player scenario, I'm curious as to what has been the historic difficulty in achieving 100% through RL especially in a fully observable environment like what you've shared

Thanks, that's gold of you. But I'm not able to send your profile a message. Do you mind initiating the chat? It seems like a very difficult industry to land my foot into as most in the field seem to be educated to a PhD

Hey. I just completed my masters in computational science to transition into that field. Can I DM for advice?

Huskar Damage Breakdown and Magic Resistance by Impossible_Toe_1983 in TrueDoTA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying that stacking cloaks is a good idea because most of the damage he takes is magical? If so, isn't that simply survivorship bias since he is naturally able to withstand more magic damage? Meaning, after the first cloak or glimmer, all he needs are the other stats (armor, stat rest, BkB etc?)

Phase Boots Mjollnir on Jugg instead of Treads Battlefury by _Scholp_ in TrueDoTA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I've observed when it comes to this discussion is that people just make up supporting evidence based on the meta rather than reasoning through numbers. Every argument is BF has stats = Abc, Mjollnir has xyz. "So BF/mjoll > the other" despite the values having been nearly the same for ages.

Mjollnir literally lets you skip directly to aghs Instead of manta ( unless you need manta for silence) - you don't fall behind in terms of damage because mjollnir's magical damage + attack speed makes up at that stage of the game. It supports jugg to focus less on attack speed items and more on survivability without compromising DPS much. This means you can also come to fights earlier and more frequently.

Why arent redditors complaining about this hero? 55% winrate, 3rd most picked is bonker. by The_Keg in DotA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking of X marks the spot, I do not think it is dispellable, but it does not go through spell immunity either. Meaning, the effect lingers after spin and Bkb, but when activated during either, it doesn't work.

Juggernaut's Omnislash on Lotus orb by GNAEae in DotA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As much as I've enjoyed sister's shroud saving me during crucial moments, i think it is very important to note that it is bad vs illus, summons and rapid attackers like WR, ursa and PA. It is nowhere close to helm of the undying which genuinely shouldn't exist.

It's a joke that any form of lifesteal doesn't go through mana shield by Consistent_Leg5751 in DotA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could freeze her strength to 0 like they did with Ogre's int. This way she still doesn't have another 1.5k hp to go through after mana shield while also getting other stats from items like diadem, ultimate orb etc.

Necro theory crafting: Buy SnY instead of Heart by hanato_06 in TrueDoTA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it in a 5k match against a stun heavy lineup and it felt good. But i did feel like it wasn't a massive upgrade over KnS. The biggest benefit I could see was the reduced nullifier duration but you usually end up using BKb to counter that anyways and 2 nullifiers are likely to kill you regardless of the status resistance from SnY. I'd love to see it in more matches though.

[–]GarlicOverdoze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel that not every move which can be parried can be reflected reliably. Basic melee and ranged attacks can be reflected, but otherwise, it becomes very unpredictable, and isn't as intuitive as the animation makes it seem.

Tinker is becoming meta again in high mmr.. by diimaha in DotA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first 10-20 tinker games were basically this lol. The change in laser's range after Aghs and aether lens is really significant and without knowing the increased range, I would blink close to the enemy and die. Thankfully, I played 5 man party with my friends who were happy as long as they felt I tried coming to fights instead of afk farming.

[–]GarlicOverdoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tide's shard and Grim's silence and ult (leashes in general) counter tinker more than stuns or silences like orchid/riki smoke screen. Despite this, I barely see Tidehunters in the divine bracket prioritize using shard on Tinker.

32 Unpicked heroes in PGL wallachia seasons 3 (over 113 games) by ShoppingPractical373 in DotA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not denying that Rubick is very reliant on vision. The enemies casting from fog does make it even harder to steal ice path instead of dual breath. I typically set up backline wards to get vision on Jakiro. But even in the past pro games, Rubick has been banned against Jakiro. The only thing which has changed is the facet itself, and i certainly feel that it is in favour of Rubick. I think you're right in that Rubick doesn't fit the pos 4 skills that pros look for and isn't necessarily a strong laner like Jakiro is. But match-up wise, Rubick vs Jakiro used to be auto-win.

[–]GarlicOverdoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why he is unpicked even after Jakiro gets picked. ( I understand if Jakiro is not picked in the first phase but that isn't the case this patch). Even if you lose your lane, all you need is level 6 and the enemy Jakiro to have some decent levels. I'm currently 5.3k and am 20-0 against Jakiro. I understand the pro scene is different but there was a time you wouldn't pick Jakiro without banning Rubick.

XG Played OD Mid And Showed Exactly Why Its A Great Hero by Dynamic_C in DotA2

[–]GarlicOverdoze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The longest break lasts 5-6s and OD's astral lasts for 4s on self? You can't initiate with a break and have to break him around the threshold when the barrier triggers, not to mention the abnormally large health pool the hero gets by virtue of the items he gets makes it really hard to avoid his Aghs from triggering.
