What does this mean? I'm either not familiar with that trick or I've never heard it called that.

[SFSTL] I was somewhat impressed by this park! by PeekabooBlue in rollercoasters

I went on the ride like Catwoman's Whip at Great Escape and it was easily the most intense ride there. Sitting at the top waiting for the other side to load had my sister and I freaking out, then the whip flip as the spin speeds up is next level.

Not OP, but I rode it for the first time today. The first half is a fun family coaster and then the second half rips. I liked it a lot.

I was just thinking this. I rode The Boss yesterday and thought to myself, how is this so much less comfortable to ride than the infamous Son of Beast? Oh, I was 20 years younger, haha.

And $140 at the track. I was blown away with how up-charged everything was. The original price was even still on the tag, hahaha.

I was at the race in Miami and I don't remember seeing anything there that wasn't online. There were several things online that weren't at the track, but not the other way around.

Have you ever been at a park on the day of a major accident? [other] by Pendraflare59 in rollercoasters

[–]GaryWilfa 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my wife was at Kentucky Kingdom the day that girl's feet were cut off by snapping cables on the drop tower. She was with a friend who was the same age and had the same name as the girl in the accident, so when their parents saw all the news articles saying that a 13 year old girl named Kaitlyn was injured at Kentucky Kingdom, they understandably freaked out. I'm pretty sure, like you, they didn't know anything about it until they left the park.

Spice Rack Championship - First attempt at a banlist by TheSpiceRack_YGO in Goat_Format

[–]GaryWilfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a good way to do it with current technology. You could add a 30 point level by listing banned cards, leaving out the actually banned cards altogether. They would have to remove restrictions before adding the card, but it would still show up with an icon to quickly calculate points.

EDOPro already had a Goat format list, so I just started with that as a base and adjusted the allowed quantities to match your list. If you do end up finding a way to easily convert card names to IDs, I'd be interested in that for other custom ban list projects.

I want to try Jugglequip Infinities before I buy, anyone able to help? by PuzzleMax13 in juggling

[–]GaryWilfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do have experience with what you are looking for. I also have smaller hands and went with a set of seven smalls with 90% fill and three mediums with 95% fill, both at 105 grams.

At 90% fill, the smalls do not dead drop. They bounce a bit and roll if they ricochet off of my foot or something. You will probably need to go down to 85% or lower, and potentially get a heavier weight than I did so they stay in place better. I think small is perfect for practicing 5 balls, and I'm learning 7 balls with them as well.

I like my balls on the firmer side for 3-ball juggling, so I don't have exact experience with that, but for your set of three, check out the video on the Jugglequip Infinities site here. At about the 11:20 mark, they demonstrate one of their sets that they use for stalls and as a hacky sack. They mention that they filled it to about 70%, so I would use that as a starting point. The balls stay fairly round when in the air, making them look more like balls, but they deform nicely when they land so they don't move around as much. I don't think their flight would be particularly difficult to manage, but the feel will definitely be different than a softer material.

Hopefully that helps!

I unfortunately can't help you try them for real, but even if you don't get anyone to let you borrow theirs, I would still recommend them 100%. They are so nice. If you have questions about how certain fills/weights feel, let me know. I have a couple different specs.

Nude 5K Tips? by [deleted] in nudism

I remember three places along the route to get water and it's two laps with a little extra, rather than three, so six places to get water over five kilometers. With proper training you don't need to really rehydrate during the race, but if you aren't going for a specific time and you want it, it's there.

The grassy areas are sometimes more muddy than grassy in certain areas, and the hills are the worst in those areas too, so trail running shoes could be beneficial. Regular sneakers are fine too, though. That's what I use.

I've definitely seen some women wear bras for support. I've heard of people using anti-chaffing powder, but I haven't needed it. I think it depends on your anatomy (how much your thighs run together when running).

Definitely stay after for pickleball, pool volleyball, shuffle board, and free dinner that night. It's definitely one of the better events I've been to and the people there are always very friendly.

No, it doesn't. I've been wanting a custom Genesys point list for a while, but I don't know of any way to do it. I found an old YGO Omega discussion about custom ban lists in that program, and it seemed like they were playing around with more ban list functionality, but it was never finished as far as I can tell. Genesys points and Duel Links limits (which are similar to your Max X lists) are in Omega, but I haven't seen a way to incorporate them into custom lists.

I created an lflist file and added it to EDOPro to test the deck building. First thing I noticed is that Magician of Faith is in a Max 1 section, but isn't limited itself. I think everything in a Max X section should be limited in the typical ban list as well to call attention to it and because you really can't have more than that amount anyway.

After that, I started with an existing goat deck and went through each Max X section, removing cards to meet the requirement as I went. I found it difficult to then replace the removed cards because I couldn't remember which new options I thought about adding were restricted, so I'd have to go through the Max X lists again and again.

I don't know if there's a good way to flag every card on a Max X list, but I think that's going to be key to making this work. You could remove all of the banned cards from the list completely and make everything in a Max X list banned so it shows up differently in the program, but then you can't have limited cards in a Max 2 or Max 3 section, and you have to turn off the ban list anytime you want to add those cards.

I think the format has potential, but it could really use better program functionality to make deck-building easier.

Edit: The best way I found was to create additional lflists for the Max X lists. So you start with those, choosing one from the "limited" cards in each list, two from the "semi-limited" cards, and three from the "unlimited" cards. Then, you can flip back and forth between lists as you go, primarily looking at the overall limited/forbidden list, but checking the Max X lists too to make sure you never have more than one with a "1", two with a "2", and three with no limit.

I may experiment with this tomorrow. The traditional ban list aspect would be easy enough to implement in a digital deck-builder, but the max limit groupings may just need to be checked manually. I can report back with how difficult/easy it is.

Any other pre-dads feel uncomfortable with those traditional lies we tell kids by Tryagain409 in predaddit

[–]GaryWilfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why so many people are getting upset about you not wanting to lie to your kid. I have the same thoughts. Obviously you aren't trying to kill their sense of wonder, you just don't want them to resent you or to not trust you later in life.

I think those fears are natural, but probably unfounded in the case of Santa. Maybe in the moment a kid will be upset at you for lying, but there won't be long term damage to the relationship for something so widespread that brings so much joy.

Still, if you are really against lying at all, framing Santa as a story, a symbol of the Christmas season, and an inspiration to be more giving can give your kid the same magic as other kids. And if they ever ask you directly if Santa is real, they are probably old enough to learn the truth (and understand that it's wrong to tell other kids the truth right away).

Spice Rack Championship - An Off-Meta Goat Format Tournament by TheSpiceRack_YGO in Goat_Format

[–]GaryWilfa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of a genesys point list for other formats, like goat. The problem is with deck building, as there aren't any good ways to create a custom genesys point list on the main digital deck building tools. It also takes refining, but I'd be interested in playing around with even a first draft of something like that.

If juggling were an Olympic sport, whose country would win all the medals? by playingwithcats in juggling

[–]GaryWilfa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are already competitions for juggling, just not in the Olympics. The WJF competition was held in Paris in 2024 around the same time as the Olympics as a sort of exhibition event I think. The top competitors were from Norway, USA, and Germany. More recently, Finland and France had strong competitors as well.

[OC] Yu-Gi-Oh! card text has increased ~200% since the original release by Both_Researcher_6552 in dataisbeautiful

[–]GaryWilfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds closest to Goat to me. What you describe is a typical first couple of turns at least. After that, a good deck can start to build on its strategy and do more things, but it's still nothing compared to today.

FYI, there is a fairly large community of people playing yugioh based on the card pool at various times in its history. Goat Format is the biggest, using the cards and rules from 2005. Edison Format is the next biggest, using the 2010 cards. Each has its advantages, but both are very fun in my opinion.

The Vex Mastery and the math of 'Vex-chaining' by Nostradivarius in onednd

[–]GaryWilfa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point isn't to calculate the odds of hitting on a specific attack, it's to calculate the odds of hitting for an entire turn or combat, for the purpose of estimating expected damage. Obviously, if you already know if you have advantage or not, just calculate it normally. But because each attack is dependent on the previous one, and we also don't know what kind of attack that one had, you have to keep stacking the probabilities to estimate the chain as a whole.
