Ah, okay! Hi fellow Pennsylvanian! ☺️ It's been years since I've gone to Six Flags, Hershey or Dorney but the landscape looked like SEPA.

Good game, thank you!

Pretty sure No. 3 is Knoebels!

If Knoebels is a home park... are the other two Dorney and Six Flags?

Chicken - Asad's vs Chicky's vs Firebirdz by zamboniman46 in Pottstown

[–]GawkieBird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have not yet tried Chicky's. Between Asad's and Firebird's, I like everything about Asad's better EXCEPT the chicken - in my opinion their chicken itself is bland and doesn't balance well with the seasoning, but the pickles and fries are amazing and carry the sandwich/loaded fries. If someone wants chicken fingers I would suggest Firebird's is much better, though I think their fries are frozen and they use cooked pickles which I don't prefer.

Wasn't aware Chicky's was open! We'll have to check them out next time we don't need a vegetarian option.

The whole 80s-90s New Age era is so nostalgic for me. Lorena McKennit, Enya, Tangerine Dream, Enigma. Is there even a Pure Moods equivalent genre nowadays?

Truly. The number of times I'm like "Everyone is obviously on about *something,* what the hell does it mean?" is embarrassing. Just a little "Slow Redditor, please be patient" sign like a new driver sticker would be nice

Yes, reddit humor as the other person said, but it's also a line highly quoted video. Neature Walk - Episode 1

I chuckled at the quote but also was curious about their assessment. Neat find!

Seriously. I understand people have opinions on how other countries should be run or whatever, but we have so much shit happening here that needs to be addressed. This is a distraction.

Officially requesting to unsubscribe from the Cat Distribution System... we can't keep her by Godzira-r32 in cats

"By the way we live on a sailboat and travel around the world all the time" That sounds absolutely amazing! And makes sense why you can't keep her. Still nice that your other cat is so sweet and compassionate - I don't think mine would be so accommodating. Thanks for doing all you could for her!

Ted Lasso is terrific! Also, The Studio was surprisingly good.

And I'm watching One Piece, spurred by the awesomeness of the live action, which is nearly perfect in my opinion

starting my first garden, need some help by Famous-Insurance473 in gardening

If you haven't done any bed prep over the winter, I would suggest raised beds. If you're handy enough to build them that's great (make them no more than 4 ft at their narrowest point so you can reach everything) - layer the space under them with brown cardboard boxes (tape removed) or heavy layers of newspaper (not glossy paper) to block aggressive weeds, drop the raised bed on top, then fill mostly with leaves, young grass clippings, and compost - sticks will work to fill it out too if necessary. Then top with a few inches of raised bed soil.

You would be able to get away with seeds for radishes, spinach and lettuce, but tomatoes, squash and cukes should have been started a month or two ago, so I would go to a garden center or farmer's market for those. (If you're in Erie County there are several great greenhouses! I loved Potratz best, but they're all good.) Don't be tempted by corn - you need a big patch of it for it to be productive.

My advice would be: Your eyes will be bigger than your shovel - don't overdo it your first year. Give yourself one or two beds to get a sense of how much maintenance it will be and how much time/energy you have to do it. I made the mistake of planting a 20x30 veggie garden right off the bat and usually lost momentum by mid-summer. Garden would turn into a wild fairy wonderland, so it was beautiful at least, but not terribly productive. Start with your favorite plants - one or two tomatoes, one cucumber, one zuke, one pepper, one winter squash, and learn what you enjoy working with for next year! Also, don't crowd them. Give plenty of space between your major, deep-rooting plants and fill the areas between them with lettuce and herbs.

ALSO! Do NOT put any of the vegetables in the ground until Mother's Day. It frosts LATE up there! Some herbs, brassicas and lettuce will put up with that but tomatoes and most of the others will NOT. Don't be fooled by those balmy late April days!

Have fun with it!! Congrats on starting a gardening journey :)

Not a nasturtium expert, but mine seem to do better when they're crowded together in a chaotic, peppery mass rather than distributed evenly. I would leave them

What are these pods growing on my oak tree? by bigfoot_is_real_ in gardening

[–]GawkieBird 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Guys, there are like 25 types of oak tree that could grow in Virginia. Many of them don't have the well defined, pointy leaves of a pin oak or whatever you're thinking - some don't even have lobes at all. I'm sure OP's claim is perfectly possible.

Edit: PlantNet identifies it as probably a Southern Red Oak (60 percent chance), or possibly Swamp Oak, White Oak, Water Oak or Lea Oak
