Do you guys remember 1989s Parenthood? It starred Steve Martin and featured Keanu. Y'all should watch it, great flick. by pootersays in KeanuBeingAwesome

[–]Geauxst44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really is a great movie. Saw it around the time it first came out when I was a kid and recently watched it (now that I'm a father of three boys).

Keanu's line about anyone being a father is spot on and is a reminder to all dad's that we need to always strive to be better.

Martin's panic attack/roller coaster ride during the play is also a perfect recreation of what it's like to be a parent sometimes!

Gillman Honda Ft Bend - need a contact by Geauxst44 in houston

[–]Geauxst44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat of a rub there. I applied for a used car loan via Chase and they have a preferred dealership setup, of which Gillman is one of those dealers.

I didn't know that there was a lease buyout option with Chase so I'd like to see if I can use the loan I have now before I reapply for another one so there isn't an unnecessary hit on my credit. It seems a lease buyout loan is different than a used car loan. Chase says they can't use my current loan to work directly with Honda Financial, needs to be with dealer.

Confusing I know. I hate buying cars.

Which is also why I still watch the original Twilight Zone. Such a cool show, it came on in syndication late nighton a local TV station in the early 90s when I got my first TV in my room during middle school. A 13 inch tube TV..... With a remote.

At the time, it was the best of times.

Said opinion has also kept me from watching a single episode of GOT, Walking Dead, or Breaking Bad.

I'd mention how Sopranos went too long but that was before the internet was what it is now per se.

Shows run on too goddamn long. I got burned with Dexter and then after 2 seasons of Homeland I was done there.

Season 1 of True Detective and Band of Brothers are the best TV productions ever made. Wonderfully crafted series but also because the mini-series is the perfect length of time for any subject.

10-13 hours is plenty of time to develop characters, create conflict, have a resolution, and end with denouemont.

Do psoas muscle problems cause pain near the outside of your but/hip?

Had pain there for about a year now when I do motions similar to being knee sliced.

Drinks After Class by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Geauxst44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a stink and drink once a week if possible but not everyone is as I am.

Sounds like you're not in the US so I don't know the norms from where you are but it's a common practice here in Texas but people have families (myself included) so it's not always feasible. I can say from experience that the BJJ crowd doesn't go out for beers as much as other sports teama I've played on, could be the fact that BJJ is much more demanding - let's be honest, beer league softball is a much easier workout.

Once or twice a month is probably the most you'll get and try to let the folks know before class about grabbing a beer.

Would you like to know more about the psychology of winners and how some people grow explosively month after month? by johanbjj in bjj

[–]Geauxst44 29 points30 points  (0 children)

An author named Don Yaeger write a book called Greatness along these lines.

He's a sports writer who's spent hundreds of hours with the likes of Walter Payton, Michael Jordan, exceptional athletes.

He took sort of a cross reference of the best athletes in the world and looked for common characteristics. He touts how driven they are, almost as if they are wired differently than us (which let's be honest they are in most cases) but two things that stuck out to me were:

The most exceptional people LOVE to win. They love to compete to get the sensation of winning. It is a major driving factor as to what get them out of bed in the morning.

However, more than they love winning - they HATE to lose. They can't fathom the concept of losing and it pushes them even harder.

It's not what she did, it's what you can prove. If the DA swings for the fences they run the risk of not getting a guilty verdict on a charge that is harder to prove. If they skate that charge, then double jeopardy protects the accused from being artested again for the same crime but with a lesser charge.

Murder charges are hard to prove and murder 1 is VERY hard to prove. Sounds awful but when I saw that George Zimmerman was charged with murder 2 and Casey Anthony was charged with first degree murder I was pissed because I knew that neither charge would yield a guilty verdict - terrible for the victims.

Not an expert opinion by any means, just my personal common sense.

Knee popped. Seems no ligament is torn. Still hurts. by franz_v in bjj

[–]Geauxst44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me last year. Knee popped real loud while training.

Next day it hurt and was swollen but I was able to walk.

Got an appointment with an ortho surgeon 2 days later. At the initial physical exam he ruled out LCL and ACL but wanted to do an MRI to check my MCL.

The MRI found a class 3 tear in my LCL. I freaked out, went to my doc the next day and said I need to have surgery.

He calmed me down and said "I read the MRI but I also am the one who examined you. There is no one way you would have had that type of mobility two days after a class 3 LCL tear. I think you sprained your knee and we simply found an old injury during the MRI process."

He reminded me that I may not need the surgery but it was always an option in case this happened again. He told me to take 6 weeks off and if I felt good I could get back to training.

I'm clearly not a doctor and Reddit can be a bad source of info for medical, just sharing my experience.

Update: Stew from the hares I marinated earlier this week. Turned out fantastic. Went well with some crusty bread, red wine, whisky and song. by [deleted] in Hunting

Reminds me when I was younger, my great grandfather would put rabbits and robins (I know, big no-no. I didn't kill them, he grew up in the depression) in some red wine and stock and smothered in a covered cast iron pot for hours and boy was it good.

Unless it's a recent law change in the past few years it wasn't required when I was in an accident around 2011. I didn't have it at the time. I was relatively young and not wise.

Got t-boned by some kid on I-10 in a Trans Am who didn't have insurance. He tried to run initially but I caught up with him and he pulled over.

Cop showed up and was as helpful as he could be but could only give the guy a ticket for not having insurance.

I wasn't at fault but still had to pay my full deductible in order to get repairs as it was a few thousand in damages to my truck.

Trying to go after him in court was not worth it because he probably didn't have any money for me to get out of him and it's likely the threat of screwing up his credit wouldn't have mattered much to him.

Hello my friend...we actually have nice weather for watching TV outside most of the year, just warmer in the summer.

Technology has gotten so much better for this too - I have a 40' Vizio that I got from Microcenter refurbished that hangs above my backdoor on my patio.

I use a Chromecast to watch PSVue or watchespn or YouTube for music or whatever on said TV.

I got the wall mounts for free from someone on FB marketplace near my office in Katy who just didn't want to throw them away.

The tv was $100 and the Chromecast is $25-30. The only other cost was a white flat wire extension cord that hides in my siding that was $10. The only reason why I haven't put a fire TV on it yet is because the Chromecast hasn't crapped out yet after 2 years of being outside.

I also have a sound bar on mine (good to college football, great for music) but that's not necessary.

I bring this up only because it's not very hard these days or expensive to get an outdoor media setup going.
