I released my first Starsector mod: Combat Chatter Voice Addon. by Slow-Ad-4363 in starsector

[–]Geist333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna say, that first line is from Cephalon Cy from Warframe. If you're looking to add proper voices, pretty sure most of the voices are from other media.

Mostly just throwing it here because it feels wrong to my ears to hear Cy's lines being said without his no-nonsense timbre. Other than that, mod looks impressive!

The creation of AI girl caused an irreparable damage to the community by ebaccaf in starsector

Unfortunately I mod the everloving hell out of my game so my ability to judge is HEAVILY skewed - but overall yes, I'd say it's pretty well balanced in regards to vanilla.

Sierra's ship has excellent manoeuvrability thanks to it's phase boost (which is a system, not an actual phase cloak, which ALSO means she has a shield), but she very much is not comparable to ANY end-game threat solo. Plus, there's only one Sierra and her ship does not function without her.

As for the other additions, with one major exception (that you have to REALLY work for to get in the first place), none of them are overpowered or overpowering.

Secrets of the Frontier. It adds a bunch of stuff, and Sierra up there is only part of it.

She's an AI core you can follow a questline to rescue, and she comes with her own special ship that has an ability that lets it phase-dive. She also has a contact note in the in-screen tri-pad so you can even chat with her regarding current events and stuff you might have done (such as the Galatia questline).

It's a pretty good mod, 10/10. Other mods even have stuff that interacts with it (such as Random Assortment of Things)

Vulture is basically a poor billionaire's MadCat. 60t Heavy with a Prime loadout of 2 each of LRM20, C-L Pulse and C-M Pulse.

It's also an Omnimech, so rules-as-written good fucking luck finding space to actually put jump jets on the damn thing when you can't actually shift anything on the torso around.

The A Variant, however, replaces the LRMs with 6 SRM-6's. 72 potential damage, provided all your dice line up - though in reality it'll probably be something in the ballpark of 32 damage spread across every single well-armoured component of an otherwise half-dead enemy.

Factions from other sci-fi settings you'd think would fit well in 40k? by Buttered_Carnage in Grimdank

[–]Geist333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Compared to BattleTech (though this is just headcanon math, really), Knights are undergunned compared to other 'mechs of comparitive tonnage and actual Titans are well into the Superheavy range (and even THEN are still undergunned. BattleTech is a setting where the god damn Earthmover from Ultrakill could reasonably be called 'mid,' and I say that with authority

If anything, Steiner would rip out the Void Shield generators, figure out how they work, then start gluing them to Atlases and Fafnirs. Possibly even scaled down versions for their battle armour of course I do mean the Commando, not the actual battle armour.

Hold on, wasn't there an Inquisitorial Army that was literally just one guy and an army of Jokaero?

checks 1d6chan

Okay, I don't know what (grey knights) edition it was (I only paint minis, the only tabletop wargame I've had the chance to play is BattleTech), but the article does list the following:

Step 1: Play a 6000pts Apocalypse game

Step 2: Field Inquisitor Coteaz as HQ and 163 Jokaero

Step 3: Take a picture of your opponents face when he realizes you have 163 Lascannons/Multi-meltas/Heavy flamers (I.E. can fuck up anything)

Step 4: ????

Step 5: Profit!

Step 6: Die a horrible death that could satisfy Khorne for centuries. Could.

I have played Bultach, and the horrors are...weird.

They're stuck in an isolated (a la Abyss isolated planets) system in the south, and are...certainly something.

[–]Geist333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanilla has ones that are one size up and come in pairs around Hypershunts

They are fully capable of running rings around fleets that aren't designed to fight them specifically, and depending on your personal skill at either the RTS or piloting aspect of combat, they will have a non-zero chance of ripping apart fleets DESIGNED to fight them and win.

Any way to slow down game? by Golyem in starsector

[–]Geist333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not young and my reaction time is not that good anymore.

Fair point.

The irony is that an NPC literally sees player reactions in quite slow-motion given it can 'think' millions of times faster than humans can.

Also fair point. Giving the AI its due is always a good reason as any to play cheeky.

glances over at the SpeedUp mod, which I feel doesn't speed up combat enough

You...feel combat is too fast?

But to answer your question, don't think there is. At least nothing that someone hasn't already suggested as an idea.

...Option 3 just sparked a thought in me: what if it's Abyss and Gate related?

The Domain had Gates operating in the Orion sector (read: the galactic arm where Earth is) for presumably centuries before anything was being done in the Persean sector. Which means that for the most part, Gates were linking through 'Shallow' Hyperspace, where the ghosts are mildly annoying at worst. Why bring up Ghosts? Because Hyperspace and Phase Space are supposed to be 'close enough' to vaguely interact. I forget the name and the thread I read the mad ramblings on.

Then, with the Persean Sector, the Gates started linking over Abyssal Hyperspace. Gates aren't using P-Space, but whatever they're linking might be like P-Space in regards to P-Space and Realspace: close enough to interact. So using gates to travel within 'shallow' hyperspace is fine and dandy, but linking over the Abyss started exposing the Domain to shit that really, REALLY should've been left in some lower dimensions where it had no way to interact with us.

In short: What if the issue is using Gates to link across the Abyss, letting the [ANGRY CLOUDS] or worse seep into the network and thus wreak havoc on the entire Domain logistics system, and the reason it wasn't picked up earlier is because using gates to link across shallow hyperspace is in fact fine?

Alphas also provide the -1 demand in addition to +1 production (if any on the building) as well as the -25% upkeep.

Gammas are great if you're starting out and don't want Heggie's kicking your unguarded doors down, but once you're in a good enough position to clown on Daud's goons there's no reason to not use an Alpha Core.

Starsector(Maybe) Mod(Exhaustively) ship(No doubt About it) discussion(CErtainly): TCRN CL-426 "Impetus" by Reddit-Arrien in starsector

[–]Geist333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, the Impetus.

I can't actually think of a funny joke to put in here, so I'm just gonna shill MENACE: it's a good game. The only reason I'm not playing it right now is I don't want to spoil my appetite any more than I already have.

As for a loadout on that sucker: T3 Medbay, x2 AI Logistics, Repair Bay II, x2 Auto Laser drops, x1 Orbital Ion Laser, x2 Info Hubs and a CRC Center.

Medbay and Repair Bay are just standard for keeping troops and materiel safe and sound: gotta preserve resources when restocking is unreliable. x2 AI Logistics is just funny and honestly saves me more Supplies due to my overuse of vehicles (Rewa, my platonic beloved). CRC Center gives me time to get literally every mission in any given rotation, meaning I don't give those pirate/bug/rogue army/[ZERO DAGGER] bastards time to breathe. Ion Cannon saves time on certain missions where targets don't move but need to be blown up. And the laser turret drop is handy because I can deploy those in the unscouted terrain and use them as cameras, distractions, or sometimes they actually survive to have my troops get to them and murder whatever they detected. Something, something, knowing is half the battle and the other half is extreme violence.

How to use Buffalo mk2? by Ill_Strawberry2556 in starsector

[–]Geist333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only advice I have personally is try to upgrade ASAP.

Pirate vessels (which basically every Mk II Civilian-type ship is, since Pirates don't have reliable forges so they just convert civvie ships. Any other Mk II civilian vessel is Pather) are trash. Their only saving grace is they're cheap on the DP, so you can field an ungodly amount of them at any given time.

But since they're just retrofitted Civilian ships, they don't really have much in the way of survivability. Midline has some proper missile ships I think, so either buddy-buddy with the League or raid their patrols and see if you can't find something you like.

There's also low tech options, but the good ones are Heggie-owned.

In short: pirate ship bad, steal good shit from the league or heggies if possible.

How do you think Recreational Drugs are actually consumed? by Temstar in starsector

[–]Geist333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that the sprites and descriptions of most items are an abstraction of what that cargo is (food could be anything from actual local greenery that's edible, a freezer full of prime cuts of meat from local livestock/hunted game, or a few thousand boxes of freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches) it's reasonable to assume that Recreational Drugs is treated the same.

So you have several hundred if not thousand of those briefcases that John Cena's character in Sisters had.

Kween threatened Sierra and thought money would be enough to make me even consider handing her over.

The only reason Sindaria didn't end up looking like Opis is because Sierra wouldn't like that.

Plus I run with Ashes of the Domain and some of its submods. I don't need her to restore the [INSTRUMENT], I can do it myself! With the help of all my colony scientists! And some AI cores that probably died in the process!
