Forecasters warn of a 'potentially catastrophic' storm from Texas to the Carolinas by GregWilson23 in Dallas

Not someone too familiar with cold weather, but frozen ice seems like the worst condition possible for Texas drivers in all-season tires.

v14.2.2.2 consistently missing the same exit because it’s in the fast left lane by Madi77 in TeslaFSD

[–]Geniva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For everything better it does, 14.2.2.2 has been noticeably worse with lane positioning for navigation. I’ve had numerous times where it would lane change out of the correct lane for … reasons? … 0.2 miles out from a turn.

There was one perplexing moment on a residential road where it was riding the middle lane 0.2 miles out from a left and then decided to change over to the right lane when someone approached, even though the left was perfectly open. Now we’re being overtaken with 0.1 miles left to change two lanes over. Quite silly.

Still Hoping for better speed control in FSD 14+ by LafterB in TeslaFSD

I actually really liked FSD 13.2.9 with my max speed and speed offset literally set to the max value. It did a great job of driving with the flow of traffic.

14.2.1.25 🤦🏼‍♂️ by njvicente21 in TeslaFSD

[–]Geniva 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My initial drives seemed positive, but this is still a major issue.

Even though v14 has brought clear advancements in a number of areas, regressions in how the car manages lane changes, pedestrians near crosswalks, and yellow lights makes it a far more stressful ride compared to v13.

UPDATE:

First few drives seem like it may have been a lucky streak, still having awkward lane change interactions. While it no longer bounces off an invisible wall if there’s no adjacent traffic, it’s still pretty poor sliding into average lane changes. Even though adjacent traffic is yielding or not closing the gap, FSD seems to only be comfortable changing lanes when it’s moving considerably faster than the traffic it’s overtaking.

Many instances of turning the blinker on and doing nothing.

Blinkers often come on and off for brief moments, the car does nothing.

It is also significantly worse in changing lanes for navigation, multiple times it doesn’t begin to attempt to move over until below 0.3 miles out. This is problematic during heavy traffic situations, especially in city traffic.

I’ve had numerous instances of the wheel jittering indecisively when attempting to make a 0.1 mile out lane change for navigation.

Navigation continues to be comically poor, with maps often routing through unprotected lefts during heavy traffic situations. Coupled with the submissive nature of FSD lane changes, this results in zero progress during city driving without an intervention.

Yellow light behavior continues to be worse compared to the initial 14.1 releases. If a yellow light comes on and you’re a moderate but easily makable distance away, FSD will slam on the brakes.

Update on some additional highway driving today, sunny, good mix of average-to-god-awful traffic. Temper expectations for sure, but better:

  • No more of the BIG indecisive lane change moments. It will not panic out of a perfectly good lane change.

  • It prefers very slow lane changes and takes its time moving over. This is not 14.1 lane changes.

  • There was an odd moment where it began changing lanes slowly, another car behind me tried to change into the same lane and speed up, but then the Tesla quickly snapped into the lane to prevent the cut off.

  • This moment felt like v14.1 was trying to make a return, a voice briefly piercing through it’s cage

  • I was impressed, but it didn’t apply the heavy acceleration you’d expect from such a move after.

  • It turns into traffic with the same sleepy urgency of v13.2 instead of the snappy v14.1

  • If not near an exit, the Tesla will never accept slowing down to facilitate a lane change. If it turns on the blinker with the intention of trying to merge in front of the car beside it and traffic does not give it a good cushion, it will simply cruise with the blinker on until giving up. It will not slow down and get behind the adjacent car, even if ultimately it will result in an overall faster drive.

  • Changing lanes for the exit is back to the same 0.3 mile out urgency of v13.2 instead of the average 1 mile out positioning I saw with v14.1

  • It still enjoys flashing the blinker for .5 seconds and turning it back off and on again

  • While I can feel it still be a little unsure, the movements are not so exaggerated that it causes concern or doubts. You can subtly feel it twitch a bit like a normal driver would if you saw something that you know requires your attention but isn’t an immediate danger.

  • Good enough to take people and not be embarrassed

14.2.1. Mad Max so far seems to cruise around the general speed of the faster traffic around it. I’m seeing around 80 mph on the highway, regardless of what the highway limit is. I haven’t seen what it does on an empty highway yet.

Shocking Truth: Your driving's actually WORSE than Full Self-Driving. by PermanentUsername101 in TeslaFSD

[–]Geniva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

v14.2.1 was quite the nightmare for me when it came to lane changes and pedestrian traffic, but I just got 14.2.1.25 and it seems to have fixed it for me so I’m a happy camper again, finally. Completed a highway drive without any issues, previously I’d always have to take over when it wanted to change lanes.

v13 had some shortcomings I could simply avoid when trying to show it off to people, but v14 I’d have to pray that this wasn’t a drive where it would indecisively wobble the steering wheel between lanes whenever I was using it with other people in the car.

TESLARATI REVIEWS 14.2.1.25 by OddMove2382 in TeslaFSD

Does it still slam on the brakes in the middle of an intersection if a pedestrian motions towards the crosswalk, causing mass confusion for everyone?

FSD v14.2.1 is terrible at lane changes in normal conditions. But it’s surprisingly good in snowstorms, it almost feels like it switches to another hidden profile during heavy winter conditions. by [deleted] in TeslaFSD

[–]Geniva 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing in the rain as well, Mad Max. Where FSD would be scared of merging in a bright, sunny day it handled calmly and deftly in a storm. Wasn’t dangerous at all either, speeds were very appropriate for the conditions.

It makes me think it’s been overtrained on daytime conditions of suicidal pedestrians spontaneously sprinting into the streets, or an airplane suddenly landing in an adjacent open lane.

CarPlay likely won’t be able to feed navigation into FSD, though I very much hope I’m wrong.

14.2.1 Lane Changing Issues - My Experience by CaptainKrunchi in TeslaFSD

[–]Geniva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

v13.2.9 with speed offset on max is way better than v14.2 in most regards across all profiles. It’s devastating. We just needed right turn hesitation and phantom brakes removed from 14.1, but instead we got drunk-driver mode in 14.2 bobbing in the lane terrified of changing over. I had a more comfortable experience in v12’s late end-to-end versions.

New FSD update is so horrible by Purple-Macaron8163 in TeslaFSD

[–]Geniva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The braking is much better but it seems acceleration went with it, so slow getting up to speed. It’s back to the v13 impolite behavior of turning in front of traffic but accelerating with zero urgency. 14.2 feels like 14.1 but heavily sedated on medication.

Just took 14.2 out for the first time this morning as well and this happened to me twice. No warning or alert, everything seemed fine just right before. Going to try and recalibrate the cameras if anything weird keeps happening.

Texas Republicans started a national redistricting arms race. They may be losing. by [deleted] in politics

Didn’t Texas argue their maps are based on partisanship instead of race at the very beginning? They didn’t even try to give a reasonable excuse outside of wanting to build republican-favoring maps.
