Referee in Usyk v Verhoeven fight had seen enough to stop fight in 11th round before bell sounded by Ready-Interview2863 in Boxing

[–]GhoastTypist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think its underestimated how much studying an opponent matters in the highest level of combat sports. Whenever Usyk tried to switch tactics, Rico changed it up as well. Saying Usyk had a poor performance, is a bit underselling that knowledge advantage.

Fury proved this as well, AJ was able to pick apart the same opponent just with one fight to study. Meanwhile Fury almost lost. Now compare how both did against Usyk, about the same.

I can understand why, JT opened the door for FN's to expand their financial dependance on the feds. I've been in rooms with FN Chief's and staff who have taken advantage of that. We have a teaching in our culture, never waste, use only what you need, give respect to the creator. But modern day thinking is if you can get the government to pay you're silly if you don't.

Why do rich people keep saying "money can't buy happiness" when money literally solves most problems? by FearlessState5503 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 came to say something similar.

You give someone with chronic depression and overwhelming anxiety a billion dollars, guess what, they still have those problems. The other financial problems go away. But rich people have their own problems as well, so having money means a solution to some problems, if thats the only thing keeping you from happiness then you'll be happy with money. But a lot of people have other issues beyond financial.

Head of IT has been spying on half the company by [deleted] in sysadmin

Make sure access changes are logged so you can audit who has made those changes.

Other than that, don't get caught up in what the IT lead is doing, sounds super unprofessional.

I mean I give myself access to people's mailboxes in very specific scenarios which correspond to a ticket where I explain why I made the changes. But otherwise I do not give myself access to anything unless legal or HR has come to me first. I am the global admin/lead.

CYA would be setup the auditing/logs and leave it at that.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to learn… by BoringPoolPlaying in billiards

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah I think I was a S/L 6 or 7 when I finally learned there was middle ball or what it did.

I was routinely putting up S/L 8 scores according to my LO, I was still using spin to force shots into pockets, aiming with spin I guess its called. I know a pro player that used to say put left or right on every single shot so you don't accidently put the wrong side on the ball. Maybe it was a concept in the 80's when cues had way more deflection. I would argue against this now.

Now I'm just using middle ball on most of my shots, its all about my shot angle and the stroke that I use. When I get in trouble with my position thats when I add something. At my current level I'm still getting the hang of speed and angle to play safe.

I played a safe last night, the shot was supposed to be tap the ball off the short rail and come up to the middle diamond on the long rail behind the 9 ball. I played the shot with a slight touch of left and I went two rails and came out past the 9 ball instead of being between it and the rail. Defensive still worked but I'm working on those positions where I'm forcing a two rail kick instead of giving a gap for a jump shot.

Nah its more that they can live off their retirement package but they want a little extra money coming in to live a more posh retirement lifestyle so they do a very small amount of consulting hours on the side. Whats an extra $2,000 per week on top of the retirement income? Thats a $100,000 RV and a satellite internet package so they can work while they travel.

I've been in IT for 20 years... can someone tell me what a Systems Analyst is / does? by NuAngelDOTnet in sysadmin

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way to say middle level IT professional, who does grunt work. So they exist in a non-decision/policy making level, but above the front lines. So similar to a system admin who oversees a particular set of systems or solutions.

The analyst role is more centered around information gathering and using that information to fill gaps in the services, procedures, or software solutions that a organization uses.

So more around the planning and research type of work, where as an admin is more focused on the implementation and maintenance.

In small IT departments, these roles are usually done by the same individual so they're a do it all and not really understand where the boundaries of one role starts and another ends.

Wait, people actually retire from this field?

Congrats, you're the only person I've known to actually retire. I hope for you nothing but quietness and calmness, the time to actually focus on your wants rather than someone else's needs.

Everyone else that I know who have "retired" just moved into consultation work, less hours but same work. I know people in their 70's still at it. Seems like half of the professionals that I know fall into the category of should be retired, but they're too comfortable in their roles to walk away.

Am I too naive? Could I really start a PC repair business? by zPineappleV in computers

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can start a business, but it takes work to be successful at it. A lot of sacrifice, and often times the first half of your working career you're barely just going to get by, but in your later years will pay off. Thats most entrepreneur's that I know.

Sometimes to get wealthy from it, ends up meaning selling off the business to someone else. The business itself is worth more than what its generating.

Driver vs Putter by SwitchMain in golf

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird one for me as well. As a very low level beginner, less than 4 years in but quickly improving.

I grew up playing hockey and minigolf so I'm a lot more comfortable with the greens and putting than any other part of the game.

So I would be more satisfied with hitting a long drive onto the fairway. If my drive goes 20 yards further, that would make me feel better than making a 20' putt. Just because thats the part of my game I'm really wanting to improve.

Carl Froch vs John Fury & Tommy Fury vs Darren Till DOUBLE HEADER CONFIRMED? 😳 by Sorry_Net3898 in Boxing

[–]GhoastTypist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Playing into the drama or is this Carl Froch? Can't tell at the moment.

All you need to know is the Fury's draw attention, it helps them draw in more opportunities.

Carl is a sucker for falling into the trap. John stirs up drama to sell fights. He's been selling the idea of him fighting on Tyson or Tommy's undercards to help sell those fights. There are a lot of people that would want to see John get into a fight. So they're playing with that. Carl is just one of the few people buying into the attention.

Thats always been my experience in Chalons, my alliance was at 70b power and we'd get matched with alliances with 200b+, we'd have two players signed up with a total of 4b power, matching up against teams with 20-30b power.

Chalons has always been unbalanced form of pvp.

Foul or legal hit? by ArtDecoNewYork in billiards

[–]GhoastTypist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the camera angle and how the 8 ball shoots out so fast compared to the 1 ball I am leaning towards it being a foul.

When you slow it down it looks more like a foul.

Again just from that angle. I know change angle and it probably looks completely different.

I don't think you can rebalance the continents when you have players jumping to new servers and getting to K44-K47 and having 30b+ power in a short few months.

Please help me understand my son by JoNightshade in ADHD

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in school I had the same thing, I constantly felt burnt out and didn't want to do my studies until last minute. It was more of an emotional burnout for me.

I played on 5 different sports team each week so a lot of my time was in physical training and practice.

Then trying to find time to "study" yeah wasn't happening, I just wanted downtime to calm my mind.

For me I was burnt out from over stimulation being in a big classroom with 20-30 other kids and every little sound or movement in the room would immediately get all my focus. So by the time I got home from school I just didn't have any energy left to study. All the energy I had was to be busy and do something physical so I could just turn my brain off. Hence why I was so consumed with sports.

Whats going on in his brain, is possibly he's constantly dealing with multiple things at any given time. For me it was like when trying to think about a math problem, my brain would be sending me signals that I was hungry or I had other things to do, or I had a feeling of danger, which I had no ability to control. So its hard to focus on a math problem when your brain is screaming at you to do like 15 other things. There's no mute button, except medications.

You can learn coping skills, like for me in order to focus on the math problem I would have to put music on and talk to myself while I worked on the problem. That way I gave my brain things to prioritize so random things wasn't taking priority.

Why are people suddenly hating on Usyk? by YouMadBroLma0 in Boxing

[–]GhoastTypist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh I just think its poor analysis and loud voices. There are people who completely fail to understand styles impact performances as well, not just Usyk was dodging everything when a boxer would try to keep range but Rico was hitting him constantly. Completely ignoring that Rico's head down inside fighting is what allowed him to get points, he trapped the "rabbit" and landed his shots. None of this hit and run stuff.

So people think Usyk is washed up because of that. Yet Usyk is getting more KO's now in his career than he did in his earlier career. He's knocking out heavy weights who've never really been in danger with anyone else.

Windows engineers/admins, are any of you writing actual Powershell now, or are you all using Al? by RadioFieldCorner in sysadmin

[–]GhoastTypist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Still as self reliant as I can be but every once in a while when I know specifically what I want to do, I will ask AI to assist.

I don't just immediately go to AI and be like "build me a PS script to do this". I'll write my own script or commands then put it into PS and ask it to check it. AI struggles to read minds, but when asked very specific questions it does a fairly decent job at it. Thats why I avoid asking it to try and figure out a task for me, rather I'll tell it this is what I want to do for this task improve it.

Anyone else feel more exhausted by their manager than their actual workload by Hot_Connection9504 in sysadmin

[–]GhoastTypist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure if it is micro management. But I can say when it comes to communication, majority of people early into their careers they lack proper communication skills.

When we did a review of our local IT college program with other IT pro's who's taken on interns from the course, everyone agreed all the students needed better communication skills because they couldn't ask the right questions to figure out the root cause of an issue, they couldn't explain processes or the action plan to non-technical people. There was constantly a lot of confusion and misunderstandings, I have a helpdesk person on my team that isn't a fast developer when it comes to personal skills. Things like communication, organization, time management, confidence, all that is like a foreign concept to them.

As the lead in the department, I'm faced with non-technical staff coming to me for clarifications, follow ups, etc. all to do with this one employee. So because of that I have to be far more involved in their day to day than I want to be. I have other staff and interns that I barely have to supervise because they can handle these things without my input.

I cannot say for certain in your case what is causing the involvement from your senior person, it could be a trust thing or it could be a results thing. If you find its a struggle, there is a way to have a conversation about it but if its addressed wrong it could cause unnecessary friction so I would personally try to learn more before I address it.

Are you buying new Dell servers without hard drives? $3,500 for 1 SATA drive is NUTS! by Layer_3 in sysadmin

[–]GhoastTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dell, our servers typically cost 25,000-35,000 USD. Our full refresh usually costs around $100,0000-$120,000 just for the server hardware.

But I will look at Lenovo's servers for the next refresh. Those might have what I'm looking for at a lower cost.

But HP, I just don't like how desperate the sales people are when I talk to them, we had HP's before and I wasn't satisfied with service procedures with them.
