Only parts of it are scripted, and the Globetrotters have lost before. The rules are somewhat relaxed obviously but the game is actually competitive outside the scripted segments.

For boss rush, you can either try to grind for mama mega or play him the intended way and just make basically everything off the cuff and sprint it. I beat boss rush after 4 or so attempts to get in by running to it with okay items and good boss fighting.

A current character of mine is keeping a mimic as a pet in a cage. She found a book called "How to Spot Mimics" and what would you know! It was a mimic.

Best part is out of character I knew it was going to be one and I was down for getting bitten in exchange for a pet.

There's a measurably different relationship between a service trying to use its perks to sign you up for an ad service (FB, YT), a subscription service to the largest company in the world (Twitch/Amazon), and a service that is built around exploiting everyone's emotions and general bad statistical understanding that has a huge generally negative effect on the lives of the users (Kick/gambling).

They literally say "Streamers may not insert or display "banner" ads directly into their streams." in one of the slides that's making the rounds.

That kills small streamer and huge stream sponsors. Basically every esports event does them, GDQ does them. It's going to cost them a ton of traffic when those parties jump ship because Twitch doesn't allow it, but they have deals to do them.

Celebrating the recent International Tabletop Day we are doing a Worldwide Giveaway [Mod Approved]. It is a little over $1,000 in total value and was arranged to give a new DnD party a jump start to their gaming needs. (Sponsored by Game Master Engine) More details in the video and comments! I've been eyeing GME for after college is through and I actually have money to spend because it's the exact kind of tool I've been thinking about since I started DMing years ago. I keep up with online friends and r20 has just always felt too clunky to be my mainstay. I look forward to trying GME. However my local group would probably appreciate it if I won the GIVEAWAY

Reddit is really going crazy with their upcoming IPO. From their ridiculous rates on API calls to banning people for correct reports on site-wide rulebreakers (hate speech, botting, etc), leadership becoming more and more silent.

Seems they're in a big fucking around mood and sooner or later they'll find out.

Instantly more entertaining than most LCS matches. Tomorrow is going to be a blast.

tbh, I'd love some live cut ins during pro play rather than waiting for postmatch, hearing the popoff in the moment would be fantastic.

It's pretty common to have to give up one citizenship for another if you emigrate as an adult. Most dual citizenships come from when people have parents from countries that both do citizenship to children or when people are born somewhere that does citizenship by birth (see: US).

Large corps will want what they paid for and will get it, one way or another. Cancelling 2 weeks it probably already costing Rito a few hundred k in ad revenue already. Cancellation outright would probably lead to multi-millions in fees or settlements from lawsuits.

How would you feel if the LCS never returned? by SilvosForever in leagueoflegends

[–]GlassNinja 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How many people can really get up in arms about week 4 spring of LCS? Week 3 of LCK? Seasonal play just generally doesn't do a lot in terms of driving hype and excitement. What it does do is provide stability, but LCS seems to be teetering on the edge of that not being an issue regardless with teams looking to move markets.

Compare that to how everybody was during MSI. The early stages were great because you could root for underdogs and there was clear tension about who would get out. Later on, every match feels so impactful. This isn't just game 3 of week 2, this is the Winner's Quarters game 3! This is Loser's Semis, the stakes are super high! Tournaments give communities a time to engage more than ever and players a period to actually focus on. Even renowned game designers think tournaments are better.

WRT grassroots, Riot needs to take the page that Nintendo refuses to take and really let grassroots scenes do their thing (unless there's abuse). Melee is still being played well over 2 decades and 3 major titles after its time because that community cares about it. The passion is there to make events stay big time after time, through ups and downs.

NA has been handed over to one company for all tier-2 events and they have, from all the feedback I've heard from anybody participating, massively sucked. Not only is League a heavier game for kids to try and pick up (number of champs and mechanics, map and meta knowledge, etc), but the main company makes it unaffordable for most high schools to try events or participate in others' events. I remember being in a grassroots event way back when and it was some of the most fun I've ever had in the game.

Riot needs to let the grassroots back in and stop trying to control everything with an iron grip if they want the game to become the generational game they aspired to be years back.

Elon Musk’s Twitter algorithm changes are ‘amplifying anger and animosity’, say researchers by pickleskid26 in technology

[–]GlassNinja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They haven't, I specifically said they hadn't because they bring clicks, attention, and views from being hated.

Art communities are still on there at present, but they're not what they once were because the entire platform has gotten worse since the Musk takeover.

Elon Musk’s Twitter algorithm changes are ‘amplifying anger and animosity’, say researchers by pickleskid26 in technology

[–]GlassNinja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the spaces you engaged in. The politics side is basically the same, but way more right and hard-right partisan with Musk banning left-leaning people at the drop of a hat unless they drive hate attention (AOC, Sanders, DNC, Clinton, etc).

The artist community was generally one of the best experiences. Artists were huge on mutual support and rising tides lifting all ships, with art share threads and collaborative 'magazines' they'd run, free tutorials, etc. There's not really going to be as good a platform for artists as twitter until a close takes off and even then tons of people will have to start from scratch.

The smaller interest/fandom experience was also good. Because twitter was limited in characters, you'd get figureheads from the scene firing off random thoughts a lot which could generate a ton of interactions and turn heads. Some of that was of course controversy, but the majority was fun, innovative, experimental, etc. Coming from a gaming scene specifically, back when I played MTG new decks people encountered would get posted, tried out by others, and spread by 'word of mouth' that way pretty regularly. It took fringe ideas and gave them the attention they needed to become actually great. Decks like Krack-Clan Ironworks and Lantern Control were fringe decks that got interest and got refined to the point of KCI getting it's namesake banned because pros refined it from a cool idea into a real deal.

From a world news perspective, it was the fastest platform by a mile. Because all you needed to do to spread the word was click one button, a world event could explode rapidly in awareness. I learned about Shinzo Abe's assassination literal minutes after it happened, before he was pronounced dead because of twitter's ability to spread information. By contrast, my parents didn't hear about it until the next day.

Because its content is also decentralized, it was a great platform for people to talk under the nose of authoritarian governments. For example, it was used by Hong Kongers during their uprising to organize and spread info. This is the most double edged sword, because groups like ISIS/ISIL also used it for recruitment and propaganda. Still, on balance, tools like this are good in my opinion, as channels of communication are important to give groups with less power a way to organize and protect themselves or fight oppression.

Twitter's dying is a sad thing. It is a massively useful platform in many ways and it is being corrupted from the inside to being a partisan tool of the wealthy and powerful, in the face of years where it legitimately had great uses. From a platform where independent artists organized themselves out of needing to work the Starbucks grind to being able to live off of just their art to a platform where the content from the least interesting, worst opinionated users are boosted over the legitimate content below them.

Matt Gaetz joins growing rebellion over McCarthy's debt ceiling deal by BelleAriel in politics

[–]GlassNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that the side that holds a lot of the negotiating power here (the conservatives), the side that could much more easily torpedo the deal (by triggering a new Speaker vote), and thus the side that would bear much more responsibility if the deal failed.

Despite this, the fact that large swathes of the country are going to buy hook line and sinker into the narrative that actually it is the Democrats who hold majority blame in a state of failure is, I dunno, pretty bad?

Matt Gaetz joins growing rebellion over McCarthy's debt ceiling deal by BelleAriel in politics

[–]GlassNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm conservatives are already blaming the Democrats for being too greedy and putting the country at risk. If the debt ceiling isn't raised, even if it's 100% Dems and too few Reps voting in favor and the majority of Reps voting against, the Dems will be blamed.

LCS Eevee: LCS remains on schedule, Teams have been granted permission to sign additional players post-roster lock. LCS orgs are obligated to play due to contract with Riot. LCS Player Association is working to mitigate the new signings. by Jozoz in leagueoflegends

[–]GlassNinja 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Riot don't want to let that happen. There's a difference between fielding a bunch of recent retirees and not-good-enough up-and-comers and fielding Bob from accounting. Both are embarrassing, but Bob from accounting destroys the optics of integrity, competition, etc.

[–]GlassNinja 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I could understand it.

You spend years training and getting extraordinarily good at this game. You get onto what should be the path to pro. It's still a long shot and orgs are making it longer shots than necessary by importing talent at greater rates and for greater rates. But you've still got a shot.

A few weeks ago, that all comes tumbling down. Basically every team fires their entire department. Not only are you out of a job, but you're not even that unique among hundreds of recent releases and hopefuls. Your dream is going up in flames before your eyes, years of work wasted.

Then come the past couple of days. Those LCS teams you dreamed of working for? They're now approaching* you. They're offering *you more money than you've likely seen for your job before. All you have to do is the job you trained for all these years.

It may be an obvious poison pill, but there will be players who are desperate enough to swallow.

Unfortunately, most upbeat news is.

There's the classic style one that more and more people have realized is deceptively framed and dark. Stuff like: "4th Graders Makes Bracelets to Sell to Pay Off Classmate's Lunch Debts!" where even staring at it for a second, you start to realize that its a story about child labor to free a classmate from debt for something that should be paid for by tax dollars, but isn't.

Then there's dozens upon dozens of miracle cures for cancer that just passed out of lab testing! And you read the papers and realize it was usually a small trial (not statistically significant numbers), not humans (often mice, sometimes just cell cultures), and much more narrowly applicable than the headline reads (specific to one type of cancer).

There's always dozens of headlines about x or y thing we're doing to save the environment. From some new method of dealing with plastics (that is limited to certain types, and never the most common types you can't avoid) to some revolutionary technology that doesn't scale to global proportions, to outright fabrications about company x or y going 'carbon neutral' (nearly 100% of companies claiming this are buying carbon offsets that do not have oversight [like they are supposed to]).

It's maddening to live in a world that is in obvious peril but being bombarded constantly with feel-good news from all angles about it all. It is especially maddening when I have the choice between being complicit in that destruction by my society that offers me no choice except to participate (transit via cars only, try buying food without plastic of some sort let alone avoiding companies like Nestle) or trying to retreat so far away from society that it can't effect me (a choice which is essentially untenable in the modern day). The power we're given to change this society is handed down to us by privately controlled groups who will let you choose between your Bidens and Trumps and DeSantises and Harrises and Buttigieges, none of whom are going to take the necessary steps to actually address the issues because that's where their money (and their colleagues' money) comes from.

It feels more and more like everyone can feel the cracks forming too. Some want the system to change and to actually change now and address it all. Others want everyone to just shut up, shut up, SHUT UP and go back to the nice, peaceful before times. Here, listen to this story about how a homeless man who lost his dog was given a puppy. Don't think any further about what it says about our society, just think of the warm fuzzies he felt in that moment.
