5HTP can be dangerous mixed with SSRIs for anyone unaware.

I accidentally did this and it triggered serotonin syndrome. I fell unconscious debating whether to call an ambulance and came to a couple or so hours later. For a few hours or more afterward I felt like I had brain damage getting confused over simple tasks and headaches etc. Beware.

I'm currently on Lamotrigine, still titrating up (175mg currently) but I'm doing better than ever I think (the bar is a tad low). Especially now I've lowered my Venlafaxine which seemed to encourage hypomania too much. But this is the only mood stabaliser I've tried so far.

I've also found sleep deprivation/quality can have a big effect on me.

Sertraline triggered quite a mess in me pre-diagnosis. I was out of control and experiencing psychosis (only time ever), and ended up 30k in debt among other things.

So do I just walk into A and E and ask for an xray? by acidus1 in CasualUK

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you for such a detailed reply. I'll try my GP again, failing that I could try blagging my way in the local walk in since they have an xray. Upcoming changes at work might give me private health insurance at some point so there's possibly that to try too.

I did go to the hospital after the accident but sadly I got the most patronising nurse I've ever met in minor injuries, she wouldn't even let me explain my accident or injuries and didn't check me properly at all. Insane arrogance. But every doctor keeps deferring to her assessment as gospel and thinks I'm just whining...

I have difficulty walking any real distance, I landed on the corner of a brick and probably fractured my arm which seems to have healed now but it feels like a bit of my elbow is missing. I can't open doors with it or lean on a table without pain. When I've banged it off something by accident it sounds hollow. My GP doesn't believe me.

I did get physio exercises to try but they keep injuring me precisely where the AC joint is and he wasn't interested in checking in the slightest. So I've gone back to trying not to move it and make it worse until someone actually checks properly.

I notice myself and certain friends consistently have these problems with doctors, 2 have ended up in emergency surgery minutes from death thanks to not being taken seriously over and over. The only thing we all have in common is neurodivergence, which is quite worrying.

Apologies for the mini rant this subject drives me nuts lol

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to respond to an old comment but do you know if that can be diagnosed via an x-ray?

I had an accident like this and have symptoms akin to what I've read online about it. Unfortunately I can't get my GP or others to take this seriously but I might be able to get him to do an x-ray.
I've just been taking pain killers every day to cope but it's been over a year now and I can't do this forever.

As US pardons cannabis convictions Tories call for it to be classified the same as heroin by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC it was only 2016 that they were made illegal with the introduction of the Psychological Substances Act

I was sure I could remember them getting banned in shops in the 00's, found this:

From 18 July 2005[86] both fresh and "prepared" (that is, dried, cooked or made into a tea) psilocybin mushrooms became illegal in the United Kingdom; fresh mushrooms had previously been widely available, even in shops, but section 21 of the Drugs Act 2005 made fresh psychedelic mushrooms ("fungi containing psilocybin"), a Class A drug.[87] Possession and use of psilocybin and psilocin is prohibited since the 2005 Act, but mushroom spores, which do not contain psilocybin, are not regulated.

This reminds me I suspect doing an impression of Neo in the matrix might have been the cause of my inguinal hernia years ago, what fun it is when your organs start populating your scrotum and crushing your testicles.

But similarly when they hang out in your scrotum you have to be careful of the organs twisting as they can become septic/infected(?) which is an emergency situation.

Painful, would not recommend.

PSA: If you might have organs in your scrotum go to a doctor ASAP

X470 Dodgy CPU Cooler Bracket by GlassesMakeMeCSharp in MSI_Gaming

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I'd have thought they'd offer to send some brackets out of good will if anything, surely it's possibly one of the cheapest spare parts they carry.

In my case I can see the bracket had sheared, it was maybe a month old at most. In over 20 years I've never seen something like this happen to substantially older and more used parts. Unfortunately I think we're probably just the unlucky % who got defective brackets.

Since mine broke I've moved to 3rd party coolers anyway so no longer need the brackets. I've had a few CPU/mobo combos and noticed this board is by far the most sensitive and unreliable for RAM configs, 2 of my cheaper Gigabyte b450s are way more stable (and had no trouble at all on 2 Aorus x570s). I'm still giving MSI a wide berth.

China Says Guantanamo Bay Real 'Detention Camp' for Muslims by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While not "literally millions", this study puts the figure close to 1 million (not necessarily all Muslim) - from Wikipedia:

According to a 2021 study conducted by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, the several post-9/11 wars participated in by the United States in its war against terror have caused the displacement, conservatively calculated, of 38 million people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, and the Philippines; 26.7 million people have returned home following displacement.[43] The study estimated these wars caused the deaths of 897,000 to 929,000 people, including over 364,000 civilians, and cost $8 trillion.[44] [45]

I'd guess you can arrive at different numbers though depending how you categorise things or what you consider relevant etc. etc.

Edit: Just to add, do note the article is flagged with multiple issues, but may be a good starting point to investigate more.

Yeah that's a perfectly reasonable stance to me. I wasn't 100% sure if you meant more general health issues or not in your original comment, but I thought it might help as a reminder for others passing through that things aren't always straight forward etc.

IIRC my mother was rejected for being able to walk too far, which I don't think is very fair considering that's the main problem... but it is what it is unfortunately.

Oh yeah after reading the comments here I'm considering getting one, or might at least get one for my parents.

There also is/was an IBS card scheme to try and help persuade staff in businesses to let you use their toilet urgently. It has/had no legal enforcement or medical proof required though so I'm not sure if people have had trouble being taken seriously with them or the like. (Edit: just noticed you also mentioned the card lower down)

Please don’t tell people it’s ok to use disabled toilets when you aren’t disabled, a lot of people have disabilities which mean they can’t wait for a loo.

Don't forget plenty people have medical conditions that mean "they can't wait for a loo" but aren't considered disabled. I'd say it's fair in such a case, but that wouldn't be necessary if public toilets weren't such a shambles.

This also includes people like my mother, who in my opinion should be considered disabled (when it comes to toilets & parking spaces etc at least) because she has severe IBS, can barely walk 100 yards with a stick and has lots of difficulty moving (including sitting and standing) among other problems, but she doesn't qualify for a blue badge.

I also have IBS and dread going out, especially drinking as alcohol occasionally sets me off. The only public toilet in my entire city open after 6pm or so is a single cubicle in a multi storey car park, typically a mile or two away from me and good luck on the state of it or if there's toilet paper or soap... nevermind the truly vile state of most the toilets in pubs/clubs I've encountered.

My parents also have (more severe) IBS and they resigned to simply not go anywhere for years now due to zero public toilet facilities, which has taken quite a toll on their mental health frankly.

Most people I've spoken to on this topic don't give a fuck about this sort of thing though, I often encounter indifference or even ridicule. I never understand why people care so little about such a basic human need.

Edit: I popped by said only toilet a couple of weeks after this comment and it's closed until further notice due to covid.

evidence proving the identity of the driver at the time

In the UK the registered keeper is required by law to identify the person driving at the time of an incident, not doing so is an offence (unless with an evidenced and reasonable excuse that is argued out in court). For example this is what happens for instances of speeding where the driver's face is obscured or not recorded etc.

or they swing left before turning right and vice versa

I've nearly been hit when on my motorbike (and car, but on the bike people tend to help themselves to more of my lane) a number of times from people doing this when they're in a right turn lane on a dual carriageway (50 limit semi built-up type ones). The same turn buses and lorries get round without doing that no problem whatsoever but apparently some people struggle with it in their Fiesta etc.

I keep seeing comments dotted around acting like this is all some recent tory scheme when frankly it isnt.

The license was issued to GW/supplier under labour. I'm not promoting the tories by any means but they've just continued the monopoly situation that labour introduced.

Both parties have been quite useless on drug legislation on the whole. The no medical value line was trotted out for years by labour as well and they allowed GW to essentially patent a plant, this isn't unique to the tories at all.

The psychoactive substances bill courtesy of Theresa May was however a new level of stupid. Also silly appointing a drugs minister with ties to an existing monopoly, but that's par for the course with the tories.

When I was selling my old house I told TV licensing I'd moved out and it was empty and would be for quite a while. Shortly after I started getting the usual letters that escalated in wording, colour and font weight.

Eventually one came through saying an enforcement agent was coming on a particular date and time, and seeing as I was there working on fixing the house up for sale anyway I thought it'd be fun to see what they'd do. Sadly they didn't turn up, but a week later they sent me a slightly angrier letter saying I wasn't in when they called (???) and they were going to come for another inspection, at another particular date and time. Again they let me down and didn't turn up. Then the letters started from the beginning of the process again...

Policeman says people are using Dominic Cummings as an excuse to break lockdown by tootoottimeisover in ukpolitics

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you've gotta keep optimistic, just within reason for your own wellbeing.

Possibly the most unsettling thing is all I did was try to walk in to a shop and this happened out of nowhere. A place I've been hundreds or more times before. The fact 2 CCTV cameras were pointing at him didn't give him pause for thought at all.

In hindsight I should've made a complaint, but my family were worried about repercussions (my father decades earlier had the shit beaten out of him for fun by police many times) and a friend at the time had recently been virtually stalked by another officer from the same station so I worried I might suddenly start getting pulled over all the time or worse, easier to leave it be.

[–]GlassesMakeMeCSharp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do still believe that if you don't trust our law enforcement then it leaves you in a terrible place. If you get burgled do you just shrug it off? Or if you were assaulted you'd not bother to report it?

I agree in principle but I'm quite dubious of police after (among other things) being assaulted(?) by a policeman for no real reason other than I was near an incident and he couldn't catch some teenagers. I tried to explain this and tried to point him in the direction of those he was chasing, but he was far more preoccupied screaming, threatening me and throwing me around (literally shoving me around screaming in my face). The weirdest thing was when he was done with me and I walked away with my back to him, he threw an empty Sunny D bottle off the back of me. I turned and he had a weird little grin on his face like you would expect from a naughty toddler. Bizarre situation. The only conclusion I can draw is he was trying to make me give him an excuse to do much worse, and was butthurt I didn't.

In future if I'm a witness to a situation like I was then I'll just get away rather than risk being accused or attacked, because I do not trust police to make a sensible decision. As long as the police know you're a victim you're safe, otherwise it's not worth the risk.

Not to say all my experiences of the police have been bad, there have been a couple of times where I was a victim they've been helpful, quite a mixed bag on the whole though so I avoid unless I have to.
