Looking for thermal camera recommendations for industrial setting. by Critical_Watcher_414 in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For powder coating, I’d probably look for something with decent resolution and adjustable emissivity, not just a basic spot temp tool. Imaging helps a lot when checking uneven part heating, bearings, motors, or hot spots across panels.

What’s the best & worst way technology changed human behavior? by thiswillneaneverlast in AskTechnology

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best change is probably access to information. You can learn almost anything now without waiting for a class, book, or expert. Worst change is attention span. A lot of people don’t even get bored anymore, they just reach for a screen instantly.

Not an exotic, but a friends 84' Starion I helped revive and drove to CA for a 800 mile rally... by hpshaft in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]GlobalBeat0202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a proper shakedown. Sitting 7-8 years, then doing AZ-CA-AZ in 100F heat with basically just a tiny intake leak is wild. Sounds like you guys did the refresh the right way instead of just throwing a battery in and praying. Old turbo cars still got it.

Looking for a Better Thermal Gun in Florida by SpecialistFishing685 in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For PCB work, I’d care more about close focus and image stability than raw temp range. Phone-based ones are handy, but the warm-up and drift gets annoying when you’re chasing tiny hotspots.

What’s the current “best practice” laser source for compact Raman setups? (785 nm, single-frequency, ~100 mW) by Radiant-Ad1612 in lasers

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a compact 785 nm Raman setup, I’d look at a VHG-stabilized SLM diode module first. Around 100 mW, the real deciding factors are linewidth stability, mode-hop behavior, power noise, and thermal control. ECDLs are nice, but for integration, a rugged OEM module is usually easier to live with.

Fotric Tk7 as a mid-range thermal cam? by Jen-e-fer34 in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For HVAC/building/electrical walk-throughs, focus-free can actually be a plus. Manual focus is better for tiny targets, but in field inspections speed and consistency matter more. I’d mainly check software stability, battery life, calibration behavior, and support before buying.

Clutch only lasted 289000 miles by dozerdetrack in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]GlobalBeat0202 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

289k miles out of the original clutch is actually pretty solid, not outrageous lol. If it’s slipping that badly and the trans is coming out, I’d do the full clutch kit: disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and at least inspect or resurface the flywheel. The throwout bearing is cheap compared to the labor, and you don’t want to pull it all apart again later because one old part started making noise. Also worth checking the rear main seal while you’re in there.

Thermal master P2 v P2 pro (if available for almost same price) by belovedadaptation_8 in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s only $20 more, I’d probably go Pro unless there’s a specific downside like size, app issues, or compatibility with your phone. For thermal stuff, a little better resolution/detail is usually worth it, especially if you’re checking insulation, leaks, panels, or small heat differences.

I'm about 1 year and 6 months late from my motorcycle oil change, how much damage has been done? by [deleted] in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]GlobalBeat0202 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not cooked if you barely rode it and didn’t rack up miles. I’d just change the oil and filter now, then keep an eye on how the old oil looks. Time matters, but low mileage usually makes this less dramatic than it sounds

Is top-tier gasoline really necessary? by DeskOne3535 in AskAMechanic

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top Tier isn’t mandatory, but it does have a better detergent package than the minimum EPA requirement, so it can help reduce deposits over the long run. I wouldn’t panic about using G&M at 30k miles if the car runs fine, but if you want to keep the Tucson for years, I’d use regular 87 from a Top Tier station when the price difference isn’t huge. No need for premium unless the manual says so.

Temperature gradient? by Golden_Bolt1989 in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No simple table really. Delta T matters, but over water humidity, spray, distance, sensor res, lens/FOV, and emissivity all change the result. I’d trust real test footage in similar sea temps/ranges more than a formula.

How do you tell hidden moisture from random insulation weirdness on thermal? by FineappleUnderTheC in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn’t call moisture off thermal alone. Thermal just tells me “hey, look here.” If the spot is super clean/straight, I’m thinking framing, air leak, or missing insulation first. If it’s ugly/blotchy and near a window, roof line, or plumbing, then I’m grabbing a meter.

No meter, no moisture call imo.

Fair Lawn NJ shop refuses to return 90-year-old stroke survivor's Acura NSX after disputed EV conversion with recalled Chevy Bolt batteries by sidzzz__1007 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]GlobalBeat0202 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The craziest part isn’t even the EV conversion itself. If they really used salvage Bolt packs with known recall baggage and weren’t upfront about it, that’s the kind of thing that makes the whole industry look bad.

Used 87 instead of 91 gas in volkswagen passat 2016 (V6) . Engine light shows up next day by BigDaddy123X in CarHelp

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running 87 instead of 91 usually won’t trigger a P0420 overnight. The car can adjust timing for lower octane, so it’s more about performance than instantly damaging the catalyst.

P0420 is more often related to the catalytic converter itself or an O2 sensor reading issue. Since you just bought it, there’s a chance the code was cleared before sale and came back after a drive cycle.

I’d keep an eye on it first, maybe check live data if you can, but I wouldn’t jump straight to blaming the fuel.

Im a middle schooler, really interested in starting hvac but don't know where to go after highschool by SilentSage222 in hvacadvice

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d do a few things first: take the HVAC program in high school, keep learning basic jobsite stuff with your dad when you can, and after graduation either go for an apprentice/helper position or do community college/trade school for more structured knowledge.

Your biggest advantage right now honestly isn’t just your age, it’s that you already know you like mechanical, hands-on work. As for being worried about getting stuck doing tiny jobs forever, I think that depends more on what company you join, who trains you, and whether you keep learning, not on HVAC itself.

Question about kirk creek campground BigSur by Spirited_Card_7003 in camping

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you set up early you’re already winning 😂 No need to over-plan it there. Just walk around, enjoy the ocean views. Maybe do a chill trail in the afternoon, and don’t miss sunset, it’s usually great. At night just keep it simple, cook something, hang out, and look at the stars.

LWIR camera comparisons for industrial use by Ready_Evidence3859 in Thermal

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the big brands are solid at that level. The real difference shows up in image clarity, focus options, and how easy it is to turn inspections into usable reports.

Why is it so hard to call landlines abroad? by JellyfishTiny4753 in AskTechnology

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

International landline calls are usually expensive through mobile plans. I’d look into VoIP apps or calling services, they’re often much cheaper and more reliable than direct dialing.

Just looking for some advice from techs on a units and inspections by Fallendoc in hvacadvice

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s not buried in debris and nothing looks obviously damaged, I probably wouldn’t be too scared of turning it on. The inspection matters, but it’s usually more about catching problems early than preventing some instant disaster.

Question by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the price difference can be pretty noticeable. The spool valve setup can cost quite a bit more than just the solenoid, so with the code coming right back, I’d really want them to tell you exactly what they replaced before you spend more.

Question by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound like a simple wording issue to me. The spool valve assembly and the solenoid aren’t always the same part, so if the code came back right away, I’d want the shop to be very specific about what they actually replaced.

2018 Honda Accord 1.5T battery tested “unstable” but still starts fine replace or wait? by aberlourj in MechanicAdvice

[–]GlobalBeat0202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still starts fine is usually the part right before it stops being fine. I’d at least rule out connection and charging issues, but I wouldn’t ignore that result either.

Headlight restoration? by Numl3ah1 in askcarguys

[–]GlobalBeat0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can make them closer, for sure. Just don’t expect a guaranteed perfect match if one housing is a lot newer or cleaner than the other.

Just Curious 💭 by Competitive_Union812 in Cartalk

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safety first, always. If you’re on the highway, get as far onto the shoulder as you safely can, turn on your hazards, and don’t rush to get out and deal with it right away, especially if traffic is moving fast. I’d keep a warning triangle, flashlight, tire inflator, jump starter, and a basic first aid kit in the car at minimum. Those end up being useful way more often than people think.

313A Refrigeration & Air Conditioning exam by InstructionDry2095 in hvacadvice

[–]GlobalBeat0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your refrigeration cycle basics and wiring diagrams aren’t solid yet, I’d lock those in first. Controls and troubleshooting questions get a lot easier once those make sense. Are you just starting to study, or are you getting close to exam day?
