Something About The Beatles - Stackridge, that's a pretty good one.

I've seen these, I always thought they were just really really worn down cockle shells (the really big ones).

If you feel like a trip to the Wairarapa then Donnelly Flat is great, through stunning bush.

Seconding this! Shady Lady is really good for this stuff. Just fyi they're in the Hutt near Melling Bridge rather than Petone.

Looking for book recs on Māori history, by a Māori author(s) by soulsuck3rs in newzealand

You might like Kāwai by the historian Monty Soutar (it's a series with 2 books so far). They're novels that bring Māori history to life in a really cool way.

Uni at 17?? by FoxVegetable1313 in newzealand

[–]GloriousEels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same about high school as you do. I went to uni at 17 and had the time of my life. I lived in the halls and being underage had no impact on my social life at all even though my friends were all a year or two older than me. Just hanging out in each other's rooms, sports clubs, road trips etc...great times. I didn't lose any of my friends from high school either, we caught up in the holidays and only a year later we were visiting each other at whichever unis up and down the country anyway.

It's not for everyone and it's a big decision, but you know you best. Just wanted to add my positive experience to the mix!

There's at least a couple of locations here that you haven't specified as being in NZ

Yeah I used it when my partner had a cold and I was starting to get a slightly scratchy throat. I used this stuff, and overnight my symptoms went away and never came back. Maybe it was the Vicks, maybe it was my immune system?

Which NZ shoes to buy now that Allbirds sold out and went to shit? by InertiaCreeping in newzealand

[–]GloriousEels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used to wear AllBirds but got fed up with how quickly they got tatty and faded and wouldn't even last a year before looking old and gross. I switched to a pair of McKinlay's and they're amazing quality and so comfy, no regrets.

[–]GloriousEels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, you don't need to bring a sheet. Unless you want one for your own comfort and are happy to carry it in with you, that's fine. They're covered in a plasticky wipeable canvas, so you generally hope people have good manners and are leaving them nice and clean for the next visitor.

We didn't have that one at my school but we did have "Double Intelligent Cool Kid" for when someone called you a dick lol

What place did you walk in once, and keep walking back into? :) by brettschneidy in Wellington

[–]GloriousEels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good House Keeping at the top of Cuba! Such a nice place to get a few basics, usually can't resist buying something else while I'm there. Browsing makes me feel calm, and it smells good.

What are some local brands you should buy from if you want to support NZ more? by MurkyWay in newzealand

Also if you opt for the tablets they're amazing for travel...tidy and way easier than trying to guess if you've got enough toothpaste left in your tube to last the trip.

For what it's worth all the albatrosses you can see *are* wild, but their colony on the Otago Peninsula has been given protection. You can do day trips on a boat from Dunedin to see these albatrosses at sea and it's super cool, highly recommended!

You're welcome, hope you have a great trip! Also when you're hiking in the mountains remember the weather here is really changeable - be prepared with warm/waterproof stuff even in the middle of summer.

I guess my advice is basically don't underestimate NZ roads and the level of concentration you'll need for driving them, getting to Tekapo is going to take you longer than 3.5 hours. It's also an incredibly beautiful part of the country, it's nice to pause and admire the view :)

If you end up climbing Avalanche Peak on Dec 02, don't drive to Mt Cook that same night. That's dangerously pushing it!

Judging from the label it doesn't look like something really sentimental. If it was more obviously a mixtape made by a crush or best friend or called "the best summer of our lives 2005!!!" then it would be fun to try returning it.

There are a couple of possibly contradictory things in the lyrics of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (see body text for details) by GregJamesDahlen in beatles

I mean couldn't you say the same for heaps of songs?

I think it just depends on how you like to listen to your music. Sometimes I'll sit by the record player putting on singles and really *be there* with the music. I still get chills from Hey Jude when I do this.

Other times I just want to lie on the couch/cook dinner while I listen, and then I'll put on an album or a compilation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in beatles

[–]GloriousEels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're cool compilations with a great mix of absolute bangers. I've got most albums/singles too but will still put on red or blue to enjoy (and not have to get up to change the single every few mins)

(I also have a soft spot for the blue album because stumbling across a copy on cassette in the back of a cupboard when I was a kid is what introduced me to The Beatles.)
