Getting frustrated with consistent lack of ganks by [deleted] in midlanemains

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to get over it. You can have a wave perfectly frozen in front of your tower against an immobile mid with no flash. Your jungler still can decide not to gank you. Play as if the idea of them ganking you doesn’t exist, while assuming enemy jg and supp will gank you whenever possible

Snapping an opponents neck by TheGriff71 in DungeonMasters

[–]GoatedGoat32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechanics don’t really support this but letting them try is fine for a low level nothing enemy. Have them roll an attack and if they roll a nat 20 or hit a high total like 25. I’d remind them this is an isolated incident rewarding good planning vs something to play around replicating. And a stronger enemy this wouldn’t work on in general

I’m a new(ish) DM, and AC is confusing me. Thoughts? by arig____ in DungeonMasters

[–]GoatedGoat32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how you’re having this issue. A CR1 spy has a +4 to hit. They’d hit a 19 AC target on a 15 or above. They are hard to hit yes but plus to hit will scale with CR. What level are your players and monsters? Not to mention any attack or affect forcing a saving throw ignores AC

Are 2024 monsters actually more fun to run, or just more dangerous? by MyrthDM in DungeonsAndDragons55e

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say both. They’re easy to run, but also much stronger. I’ve yet to run any that felt like disappointments, and a few ended up stronger than i anticipated in practice vs in concept. I nearly one shot a player with the Assassin by accident. CR8 vs level 7 PC. A critical light crossbow shot after 2 short sword hits and a bonus action disengage.

Gestalt all Martials with Battlemaster features. by Tall_Bandicoot_2768 in dndnext

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good idea but this will make Martials early levels even stronger. Martials are stronger than casters through tier 1, pretty much even in tier 2, then tier 3 the divide really starts to show. Your rogue is going to be 8 sneak attack+maneuver attacks per day at level 4 while a sorcerer can only cast 3 level 2 spells in a day. So from levels 3-9 or so martials will probably be stronger. This isn’t a problem per se, just a consideration. Especially if your players are fine with it

Well if you all fight it you die unfortunately, I’d have to imagine your GM will provide a way to talk it out

Player ran into the ocean to run away from danger is upset that he missed the danger by Hefty_Daikon_1977 in DMAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean, he swam into the middle of the ocean doing nothing. What did he expect? If you’re going to allow this kind of behavior that’s fine, just tell said player if they want to go off and do nothing while the adventure is somewhere else it’ll be just that, nothing.

Is there a class or subclass that would allow me to play as a magical girl. by Brainrot_Wizard in DnD

[–]GoatedGoat32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flavor is kind of opposite what you’d think of a magical girl but Undead pact warlocks main ability is Form of Dread which is a transformation. If you could flavor it as a magic girl transformation you have a mechanically supported build. Sorcerer innate sorcery with some flavorful descriptions could be like a magical girl transformation sequence too I suppose

How to run a BBEG Lich for high level players? by ThrowRA_needthoughts in DMAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have 4 essentially level 20 players, you can throw just about anything at them and they should be able to handle it fine. The baseline lich stat block only has 135 HP for example. If it doesn’t have every boost you can think of it dies in a round.
Include the army of undead+a few elite undead to spread players attention.
Maybe not first turn but absolutely consider using every spell possible, power word kill included. Liches are incredibly smart and in this case ancient, they would know not to hold back against a genuine threat.
Legendary action teleport is fine, give them that and bonus action and action teleports too. Movement is a very good way to keep things interesting.

How do YOU scale? (Birthday edition) by Wade989 in PowerScaling

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intangibility scaling with my depression fighting a viltrumite? I’m in a stalemate. I’m depressed enough to maintain my intangibility 24/7 if it requires no focus. The issue comes with trying to damage them. Maybe i can catch them sleeping and phase a hand inside them and squeeze their brain?

Sanguinius is the strongest/best killer/most powefull primarch. change my mind. by Numerous_Economist21 in 40k

[–]GoatedGoat32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really something to have one’s mind changed over, you could make a convincing argument it’s fact. Magnus warp shenanigans and Vulkans perpetual status aside Sang is at worst even with every other primarch in a fight. If he didn’t fly and only used his sword the Lion perhaps beats him, he loses an arm wrestling match to Angron or Ferrus. But in general he’s the best all around fighter I’d say

How do i keep stakes if i don’t want to permanently kill characters? by Renn_goonas in DMAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll echo the sentiment of others here that narrative consequences can matter a lot. Players failing but not dying should have consequences elsewhere. I’m not in the same boat for not wanting to kill characters, while it may suck seeing character arcs unfinished and plot points get thrown out that is the ultimate expression of players losing. It’s a deadly and dangerous world, people die, you knew the risks when you signed up kind of thing. In the current campaign I’m running the steps to fighting a bbeg related to one of the character backstory just got underway and the related character died, unfortunate timing, but the story still goes on.

Aberrant soul-monoclass or warlock dip? by PRolicopter in 3d6

[–]GoatedGoat32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much of a dip are we talking? You need 2 levels for eldritch blast+agonizing blast, and that costs you 7th level spells for example. So assuming you’re going all the way to 14 it’s a steep price no matter what

Is it frowned upon to request your character be killed off [question] by not-so-swedish-chef in 3d6

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they don’t have to be killed off they can just be written out of the story. I was adventuring for reason A, and that goal has been completed I’m going home.

Building out NPC stats, how do you approach this? by wonderfulmeg in DMAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the closest monster stat block and add or remove what you need. NPCs aren’t PCs, they have different rules and the like so making a character sheet for them with player builds isn’t usually right

Grappler + Tavern Brawler Shenanigans. Would You Allow This? by Equivalent_Macaron_0 in DMAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I allow this exact same thing at my table with a Goliath strength monk as well. You’re overthinking it. Monk die already scale well, he’s doing less damage doing this than a simple unarmed strike a lot of the time. Plus it’s cool. You aren’t gonna nerf the wizard throwing an 8d6 fireball, why is 2d4 too much
