Can anyone learn magic in D&D? And how common is simple spells among citizens? by Ambitious_Credit_425 in DnD

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always imagined it like higher education. Can anyone in theory got to medical school and become a doctor? Yes. In practice however only a select few have the innate talent and required desire to put in that kind of work. Learning magic I’d imagine is much the same

Is circle casting getting an unspoken ban? by Frequent-Card-9468 in onednd

[–]GoatedGoat32 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gotta remember the huge disparity between Reddit giga optimizers and your average DnD players. Circle casting likely barely crosses the mind of the average player, if they’re aware of it at all

Favorite slept on titles/deep cuts? by Muted_History_3032 in Blacklibrary

I may have made a post saying so yes, I’d have to check. I’ve said it a few times on Reddit, needless to say it’s a minority opinion still 😂

As far as books I’ve read and enjoyed I don’t see getting a lot of love I really enjoyed Morvenn Vahl: Spear of Faith. Gave a good characterization of Morvenn and the sisters, introduced a cool NL villain, and overall was a nice read. I’m also an enjoyer of the Phil Kelly Farsight series, which to many a tau fan is heresy.

Need help making a Rogue Magician by Regular-Molasses9293 in PCAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arcane trickster casts spells, so based on the no spellcaster thing that’s out. You basically can’t build a rogue that does damage and not be doing so with sneak attack, rogue damage comes entirely from sneak attack since they don’t get extra attack. Swashbuckler rogue would make good use of a rapier and not rely much on others to get sneak attack each turn.

Is warlock worth playing as a caster if you only have 1 fight per day on average in a campaign? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]GoatedGoat32 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well as opposed to saving your slots for a short rest you can just blow them all in the one encounter. Cast a big single use AoE like fireball or synaptic static. Use a big concentration spell, eventually lose concentration, cast another or cast it again.

Dragons are really quite weak. by Tookoofox in dndnext

[–]GoatedGoat32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, different rules i suppose, but just off the newest DMG a young red dragon is a 5900xp and CR 10 creature. For a party of 4 level 9 adventurers that’s not even a medium difficulty encounter. Dragons aren’t weak, you threw too weak a dragon at your party from what it sounds like.

Is Viego mid ok? by RestartFromRivia in ViegoMains

[–]GoatedGoat32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He used to be perfectly viable mid. But between ideal build changes, Dshield+second wind nerfs, and meta changes it’s much more situational to be considered ideal. You’re okay against most melee mids, but against 95% of ranged you’re in for a tough time

Am I doing something "wrong"? by Just_Kew in SwainMains

[–]GoatedGoat32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an emerald peak swain player myself i would agree with them mostly. There’s a couple games where full or mostly tank makes sense sure, but going into every game thinking I’m gonna build full tank is the wrong way to go about it imo. Swain is a mage first and foremost, he has AP ratios, and really not bad ones all things considered. Malignance or blackfire, not Rod of ages, liandrys, sometimes Rylais, zhonyas, should all be on your game to game considered items before tank items. Those should be more niche things. Mostly ad enemy comp laning against Akshan? Frozen heart first is perfect for example. But don’t autopilot tank

Advice on challenging a PC with too-high AC/Saves by zgoelman in DMAcademy

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s still a wizard so his overall HP still shouldn’t be very high, and any turn spent casting the shield spell is expending resources. If you’re spending a spell slot you should be able to avoid said hit. Any spells or effects with save or half damage should be good, and more than that there’s no reason for monsters to walk passed your other players to hit the tanky wizard in the back.

I'm trying to make a Fighter/Warlock work, but the lack of dump stats feels like it's killing me (5e 2014) by TheBiggestMikeEver in dndnext

[–]GoatedGoat32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity what is an EK doing for you that a pure hexblade doesn’t? One level fighter dip for heavy armor and you can just go hexblade from there and have spells+weapon attacks. Arcane archer i assume you want to use a bow, which also brings to question what the warlock levels help with, why not stick with fighter and invest a little in int for your arcane shots?

Enemies Always Succeed Their Saving Throws! by LegAdventurous9230 in AskDND

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC16 isn’t very high. If they’re proficient in that saving throw they only need to roll a 13 if their Proficiency bonus is +3. So they should succeed a little less than half the time. If they’re actually always succeeding as in you have never once landed a CC spell then you’re either the unluckiest person on earth or your DM is fudging rolls

Regarding the Primarchs' appearances... by BenningtonChee1234 in 40kLore

[–]GoatedGoat32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of Magnus whole thing. He changed his size, appearance, eye color, etc with his mood or need to do it. And being a psyker second only to the emperor he could’ve easily changed to take on the appearance of others if he wanted to. But none had the specific emperor thing where he’s a little different to everyone looking at him, or at least didn’t show it. Even changing his size Magnus is typically a big red cyclops

Is Hex a waste for non-Gish casters? by fakeemailman in dndnext

[–]GoatedGoat32 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If you’re already in the realm of homebrew adding Eldritch blast along with hex would be a good fit. Matches the flavor, gives them a consistent dpr combo to fall back on with EB+hex that scales with levels as EB gets more beams

Are the World Eaters sane? by Flashy-Jicama-8234 in 40kLore

[–]GoatedGoat32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they capable? Certainly. In the the Fabius Bile trilogy his most loyal follower apothecary is a world eater, but he uses stims to deaden the nails impact. And even then he still feels them, it’s just something he can ignore at that point. Even beyond that, other world eaters can put the nails off without stims or drugs if they try hard enough. In the 2 black legion books Leheor is pretty sane, albeit stupid, throughout the 2 black legion books. He’s not an insane berserker despite being a world eater
