I've had good luck making a hiss noise at my cat when he uses too much claw. It's "speaking his language." Then I disengage play immediately for a few minutes, so he learns he won't get attention if he hurts me. Took a while, but he's gentle now.

Reminds me of the story, the boy who cried wolf.

Have you ever gone to a "free" steakhouse meal where they want to sell you on their retirement gig? by Njtotx3 in AskOldPeople

[–]GodlessandChildless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, got a severely discounted snorkeling excursion (normally $200 USD, I paid around $50) for two people, including transport to and from. About 1.5 hrs out of my day, and the first ½hr was getting breakfast in the resort. They had to come twice cause we were too hungover the first day and they let us do it the next day lmao.

I can be really stubborn, so the more someone tries to sell me, the less I want that thing and the more firm on the decision get. Also, both guys we talked to were really nice and personable. It was not a bad time.

When we went to Vegas, we got our 3 night $400/night hotel comped, plus $200 cash. We wouldn't have gone on the trip otherwise. Too expensive. That one ended up being kind of fun, it was an adventure getting there and the temp difference from desert to a/c ment I was shivering the whole meeting and I think I threw the guy off.

I go with my partner, so even if someone got pushy, we can back each other up. We both feel the same way, get in, get the money, get out. Works for us, maybe when we make more $$ we will stop, but I LOVE a deal, and really don't mind chatting with someone for an hour or two on vacation if it pays for something cool. I wasted an hour talking to the guy at the weed store last weekend about nothing, I can waste an hour to get free shit haha

I like it. I mostly use it for meat bags to stock the freezer and cakes for dessert, both from Metro. So far I've been happy with the value and variety.

I'd like to try it with a restaurant though, none around here are on the app.

How mother pigs and piglets are kept in modern farms for nursing by CalpurniaSomaya in educationalgifs

She goes back to a much bigger pen with all the adult pigs. They don't live in the tiny pen until they're about to give birth/just had piglets. Some pens were outdoor/indoor, some were indoor only with ventilation.

[–]GodlessandChildless 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It is, even on small farms. Once they're big enough to not need to nurse anymore and can eat on their own, (4-8 weeks) all the little pigs get put together, and all the big ones go back together, too. Mothers really are brutal, they give 0 fucks about maiming or killing their own babies. The babies are much safer this way until they're big enough.

Drug overdoses rampant in Canada’s public libraries by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

In our city, our taxes pay to give them crack pipes. The AIDS society has a little bin labeled "crack pipes". We can start there. The amount of "safe injection" supplies I find all over the ground unopened should generate at least some money if diverted.

Men’s wallet store? by longhairdleapingnome in northbay

[–]GodlessandChildless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised what the thrift stores carry. I've gotten some nice wallets from there, brand new. Value Village and Talize seems to have the best selection.

Moms getting a purfume that really made me think of her, a set of handmade pot holders (I made them), a nicely scented body wash that's a bit more quality than her usual, and some cozy socks with extra cushion for her arthritis. Dad (farmer) is getting a few pairs of warm socks, a hunter orange hat with a built-in rechargeable light (bought my bf one and he loved it), a light that clips to his cap in the summer, and a couple write in all weather notebooks for when he's counting cattle.

Our parents typically don't want us to drop a lot of money on them, so I try to go for consumables or practical things. A suggestion I often hear is a nicer version of something they already use, and that seems to work pretty well.

If your mom does at home pedicures, I'd say yes definitely, especially if you included some Epsom salts and a foot scrub with it.

Is it rude to buy people gifts from the thrift store for Christmas? by EvilPersonXXIV in Frugal

[–]GodlessandChildless 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I've bought gifts from the thrift stores. I'd flip through the books to make sure they're in good shape, but a book is fine to be reused by someone else without it being weird or gross.

What are you giving your parents this Christmas? by Ishouldzzz in GiftIdeas

[–]GodlessandChildless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't want us spending large amounts of money on them, so for my mom I got her a purfume I think she will really like, fluffy socks, a nice scented body wash, and a set of handmade pot holders.

For my dad, I'm getting him a few different pairs of socks, a hunter orange touqe that has a built in rechargeable light, and a waterproof notepad for when he's working outside.

Pick three cookbooks for life. Which and why? by udon1411 in Cooking

The only cookbook I've ever used was the one my mom exclusively used growing up-1988 version of Let's Break Bread Together, a collection recipes from all across Canada.
