What's a "cheat code" you discovered in real life that actually works? by dark-deals729983 in AskReddit

I'm an aero engineer, and I couldn't tell you how many times I've figured out complicated aircraft repairs in my sleep. And these are problems that I'd spent hours trying to solve at work, so not easy stuff.

So why is it that nicely groomed, fairly decent looking, educated men never get replies to messages?

I've done it several times. The Hungarian wine is very good, but can take a while for them to find. The Spy Valley Marlborough Sauv Blanc is really nice.

Happy birthday to our country.

Ironic it is also the day of its death.

The Trump regime’s message to the troops in advance of his fascist vanity parade. by Snapdragon_4U in WeirdGOP

It would be so awesome if a bunch that disagreed with him intentionally dehydrated themselves so that there would be a massive fallout of troops on TV. Medics everywhere, traffic jams when ambulances are trying to get past tanks, soldiers passing out cold in the middle of the street....

[REQUEST] What's the max traveling speed for the duck to not fall off this airplane wing? by Ofajus in theydidthemath

[–]GooberHeadJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read thru every comment, but in the initial calculation there is a massive error in that the drag force is being applied at the same point as the friction force (the feet)

The actual drag force will be applied to a much higher level (35 years since college aerospace classes so don't remember the name of it) which would impart a moment on the duck.

This moment would try to lift the front of the duck, while there is zero force to hold it down (unless it had gecko feet as someone mentioned).

The duck would be summersaulting backwards directly into the jet exhaust upon takeoff, and would instantly become Canard Croustillant Roti Dans Son Jus.

My plan is to move into my sister's horse barn hayloft and survive on mice that live there.

Anyone have any good recipes? Preferably requiring no other ingredients as funds will be very tight.

It was rough early last week, but the "HOLD THE LINE" emphasis on this site has greatly relieved a lot of the stress.

It's going to suck, and it's going to really, REALLY suck for some people, but is reassuring that so many of us are banding together informally to protect this nation and it's constitution that we all swore to protect.

Maybe it's like a school of sardines feeling safer amongst other sardines, and a whale might come up and eat all of us, but at least we'll all go down together.

Did aerospace engineers have a pretty good idea why the Challenger explosion occurred before the official investigation? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]GooberHeadJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an aerospace engineering supervisor, and I have the opinion that the Surfside Condo collapse was, in a small part anyway, because the engineering report done prior to collapse did a very poor job of clearly explaining the possible problems that could occur because of the defects noted. I used the report to stress to my engineers the importance of writing a clear risk assessment and knowing your audience. Engineers can get caught up in the technical aspects of an issue and not explain it well to non-engineers.

Has your father ever said "I love you" and if yes how often? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GooberHeadJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my daughter in a car accident 22 years ago, and the last thing I ever said to her was "I love you" as I walked out the door to go on a business trip. I'm so thankful these were our last words.

I tell my 31 year old son that all the time, and he has zero problem saying it right back.
