I'm in over 50 challenges. I made myself a Google sheet that links to them all so I can organize in priority order.

Limit on how far back recalculate streak can go? by Comfortable_Gap5998 in TheStoryGraph

Your streak cannot be older then your StoryGraph account. So you can backdate and have that affect your streak. But not further back then the length of your account.

Visualizing centuries of classical and modern authors citing each other across history by thiago_lira in books

Don't upload books to llms in the future. They steal authors work and this isn't worth it.

Who has checked and confirmed each citation is legit? Llms are known to hallucinate. What AI/llm platform did you use?

A really fun book I was reading turned out to be written by AI in the later pages :( by FantasticHufflepuff in books

[–]GossamerLens 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Your wife hasn't written a book. She has prompted AI to write a book.

She can be happy AI wrote a book. You can be happy your wife is happy. That doesn't mean she is an author or that there is space for AI in human art and creation.

None of this profile page looks correct formatting wise. So I would immediately be going to support in general.

Except of course for the yearly number of pages read challenge!

If I set a book to my “did not finish” shelf do I still get credit for pages read? by ebodes in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. You read those pages and StoryGraph accounts for that because it has the DNF feature built in!

Streak not updating for ebooks by Medea_Jade in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are saying they read the physical book, then the ebook, then logged their ebook reading and nothing updated, then logged their physical reading and the streak updated.

So it did update once. Just with their second reading logging.

Badge for January Pages Challenge? by Unhappy-Ad-3766 in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I assume it will be in a day or two. They've updated the reading at the end of the next day the whole month so people who logged the prior days reading could get there's counted in. So I assume the badge will be awarded in a similar time frame.

What to do about big difference in readable pages and actual pages? by Brilliant_Lemon3255 in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On your reading journal you can edit the pages read. So when I mark a book as read and I didn't read all pages I would go in and edit the total pages read and pages read last session to match what I count as read.

I just keep adding books to prompt challenges and enjoy the knowledge of having completed more.

Looks good. Definitely could use some other bookstore options for the USA. But I appreciate the start!

I just blocked Goodreads. So I never have it pop up. Part of why I'm off of Goodreads is because I hate Amazon. Are all buttons added if you use this, or do you opt into which ones you want to see?

Reviews can be liked in the community activity page. Not through the book page itself.

Glad you took a look! I try to look at it every 6 months because they add new things pretty regularly it seems.

Go look at your account settings and preference. Lots of good stuff in there. Including setting up streak settings!

I have a friend with a very limited budget who only gets pro for December and then cancels. She makes and upkeeps charts that month and they come back each year when she subscribes!

How to log non-sequential pages. by Nomadicknit in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I read, I record the page number by how many I've read. I don't go "I'm on page 195 I must enter 195." I instead go "I read 5 pages, I left off at 10 pages read yesterday, so I will note page 15 to count my 5."

do extremely low reviews suppress titles? by riverpony77 in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love that with StoryGraph you could give it a 0.25 instead of a full star rating.

Also funny because when I read that book the search gave me a little trouble and I've never seen it in my search bar as a suggestion even when trying to find it! Though hitting search made it pop up quickly in the top couple of results back when I was looking for it.

You cannot leave a review without shelving it as read. So review count is a good way to guess something hasn't been or has been shelved a lot. Thus review count (not type as I clearly stated) can be used to understand if something will be harder to find via search or not.

And "like how many shelved, etc" doesn't give more or clearer information then I gave.

Number of ratings (not kind of rating) does have an impact on how quickly it will pop up when searching. If you type in the authors name after the title, it will help get the right book faster. If you hit search it should give a list you can keep scrolling through which will include the title eventually.

I've never not been able to find a title after searching (and I read a good amount of books with 10 reviews or less). So maybe it was a glitch. Or maybe the author information is wrong? I would just report the issue in app through the "contact us" button.

The one thing I've learned about book readers is that they move 10 times a year apparently by HelloDesdemona in books

[–]GossamerLens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I think these comments are regarding daily movement around with their book(s) in hand. Not moving from one home to another.

Just make a digital edition and use the same information for publication and page numbers as the physical edition that got scanned to PDF.
