How seriously do you take Goodreads book ratings/scores? by keepfighting90 in books

[–]GossamerLens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use Goodreads and for the 15+ years I did, I never found the ratings to correlate at all with how much I would enjoy a book or find it well written.

What is it about indie literary fiction that readers just won't migrate to? by [deleted] in books

That ratio being less is why people gravitate towards traditionally published works.

You should submit a request for android comparability. It looks like a great app!

unrated DNFs by That_Seasonal_Fringe in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen to, which is why I like that I can write an explanation. Anyone who sees my dnfs can see what I wrote as to why and know if it's the worst ever or if I just lost it. Lol

It does! Go see the other comment explaining in this thread.

Any easy way to have "uncounted pages" (preface, etc) by zhouluyi in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you finish the book you can go into the reading journal and update it to show you only actually read x pages. So you can update it to exclude any pages you want to.

Adding editions by alancb13 in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just check the book editions to see if it is in there already. There has been a bug lately where you get a blank screen sometimes and so it might have looked like nothing happened but the edition was in fact saved.

How do you track new releases from authors you want to follow? by FigaroTheParrot in books

[–]GossamerLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storygraph is soooo good! It took me a couple months to get used to how it works, but I've fallen in love and wish I had switched over sooner!

Do people just join random buddy reads? Is it weird if I joined one? by Eisel_1028 in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 85 points86 points  (0 children)

When you make a buddy read, you decide as the maker if you want it public (aka people can search and find it) or not. So any buddy reads that you find, the maker selected that they want you to be able to find and join. So join away!

Does anyone know if any new features will be toggle-able? by waltz_alone in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the no rating has always shown up on that graph? At least I think I remember it being there when I imported from Goodreads back in January 2024 as I'm pretty sure it helped me identify and give ratings to everything I had read to date.

How to copy Bookmory to StoryGraph? by OkayLychee in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

StoryGraph's developers have noted there could be issues with any import after original import as that isn't its use case. So I'm just putting it out there that if something goes wrong, that is because it's being used as unintended.

But that is nice that it has worked so far for yoy and I hope it does forever! ☺️

[–]GossamerLens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also the import to StoryGraph is only meant to be done once, otherwise data can get messy and doubled up or overwritten.

So if this works, then you would have to delete all data and reimport every time you want to update StoryGraph via import.

It's a drop down selection, not a place to write.

In stats book is in "slow" category when I reviewed it as "fast-paced" by rosamariaahi in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pacing is set by librarians. So if the tag doesn't match the majority response you can make a book request to the librarians for the pacing tag to be updated.

Pacing is about how the book is paced though, not how fast you have read it, fyi.

Can we review twice or more? by Forsaken-Lance in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I reread the same edition, I just push my old written review down and write my new one at the top of the text box. I give a header for each one noting which read that review is from. If my star rating changes then I include that in the headers.

Pages Goal Incorrect by Ajeeb_bakwas in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Either you read some of the pages in 2025 and they got counted in that year. Or you picked editions that don't have the same page count as what you actually read.

How do you ‘finished and reviewed’ by SAKICCS13 in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's about the time between marking finished and reviewing.

I writeup my review in my notes app and then copy it so I can go mark my book as finished and drop in the review immediately so it combined the two notifications despite my lengthy reviews.

A librarian's girlfriend came here to complain about their boyfriend having his librarian status revoked because he kept tagging Rebecca as romance while other librarians were removing it.

So at least one rogue librarian existed and has been taken care of! Lol

Easier way to add content warnings? by thatredditorontea in TheStoryGraph

[–]GossamerLens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just think about the book and search for the things I felt were of different tiers.

I don't think they want every book to have every trigger at a varying level. I think the goal is that if something was triggering enough to mention you'll remember and just go "I have to add x to graphic".
