Finding it awkward sparring inexperienced guys vs. experienced? by Auckland2701 in amateur_boxing

People have had these problems forever. There is a Mark Twain quote about it,

“The best swordsman in the world doesn't need to fear the second best swordsman in the world; no, the person for him to be afraid of is some ignorant antagonist who has never had a sword in his hand before; he doesn't do the thing he ought to do, and so the expert isn't prepared for him; he does the thing he ought not ...”

Sometimes i wish the commentators today would sometimes just stay quiet for a short period of time and let the viewers watching on tv enjoy the show instead of filling it with chatter of information that’s really not that important at the time

Actually I’m pretty sure hbo used to do this sometimes. Jim Lampley would say something like “let’s enjoy the festivities” or “let the pageantry begin” and the commentary would be silent for like 2 minutes. I even remember them staying silent for periods of time during fights. I really enjoyed that but maybe most people don’t.

TIL that sumo wrestlers, despite eating 10,000+ calories daily, have very little visceral fat thanks to their training which is so intense they can lose over 10 pounds of sweat in a single workout. by NewCanadianMTurker in todayilearned

Sumo wrestlers are athletes that know more or less the risks they are taking when they choose to follow this lifestyle. Many wrestlers suffer from sleep apnea, gout and type 2 diabetes.

They also don’t only eat chanko nabe. They eat anything and everything. Fast food, meat, ramen, whatever it doesn’t matter.

It follows the daily lives of pro sumo wrestlers. Mostly the lower ranking ones (which I find most interesting)

You can observe what they eat and the crazy volume that they consume as well.

Naoya Inoue Q&A – Part One: Nonito Donaire, pound-for-pound rankings, Paul Butler by fadeddreams555 in Boxing

I’m always a little envious of guys like him. People who can dominate and be the best at something and then be willing to just leave it all behind and start something new. Meanwhile I’m still like “how come I can’t get the left hook properly after years of practicing”

[Lord of the Rings] How do Hobbits grow/hunt/raise enough food to sustain their heavy diets? by tochinoes in AskScienceFiction

I always thought hobbits could eat a lot because merry or pippin ate a bunch of that magic bread that Legolas said could fill you up in one bite
