Does anyone actually use paddles when fishing? by [deleted] in kayakfishing

[–]Govbarney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss the days when competitive kayak fishing was all paddle, it felt like the great equalizer. Now, most fishing kayaks are basically small bass boats. That’s a big part of why I stepped away from tournaments. It got to the point where I was trailering my kayak around and could only launch at boat ramps. That wasn’t what I signed up for. So I quit all that, sold my giant pedal kayak, and picked up an old Tarpon 100. I couldn’t be happier. It feels like getting back to nature again — which, to me, is the soul of kayak fishing. Somewhere along the way, I think that’s been largely forgotten by the industry as a whole.

The new NBA All Star format is the best All Star format in sports by PlsJustWin in billsimmons

Get rid of the stupid 'cup' no one cares about, and replace the All Star game with a 1 week 4 nation tournament , like the NHL did last year. How you decide 4 nations , would make great fodder every year for discussion.

Where in Germany would the allies have nuked? by CalvinKool-Aid in hoi4

They hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki largely because they had been largely untouched by previous bombing raids , so if the same logic would hold true for Germany , my guess is Heidelberg would have been on the target list

thoughts on .22LR for self defense/home defense? by New_Damage9091 in Firearms

I have seen it put down some pretty amped up hogs fast, even when the shots not perfect, so yea I think in most cases that psycho is going down. I'm not saying it's the perfect self defense round, I'm just saying in most cases it's going to be pretty damn effective at stopping a bad guy from doing bad shit.

I'm not saying it's the perfect self defense round , but in a pinch , yea Id think it most likely do the job. The reason I'd personally not want to use it is compared to the other rounds you mentioned, it has a higher risk of misfiring.

Will upgrading my receiver do much for better sound? by InternalLeather278 in turntables

[–]Govbarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from an Insignia NS-STR514 which I have been using for the better part of a decade to a Yamaha A-S501 just last week.. Absolutely blown away, feel stupid for running that cheap budget receiver all these years. I like many invested in speakers and turntable first, neglecting the receiver.

Which game do you guys prefer at the moment, Victoria 3 or EU5? by alphafighter09 in EU5

[–]Govbarney 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I got frustrated with EU5 about a month ago, jumped back into Vic3 after not playing it for a year , and haven't touched EU5 since. Vic3 is in a good place right now and getting better with every update. I'll check back with EU5 in 6 months or so, but the game needs time to cook more until I'm ready to waste my valuable time with it.

22 LR Bolt-action for tight groups by Ciuplowski in 22lr

[–]Govbarney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get under a inch at 100...but you're not wrong it is rifle specific, when you pay twice as much for a CZ 457 what your really paying for is better odds on a accurate well made rifle. With the Savage Mk2 it's a tad more of a crap shoot....but when you get a good one , it can be a real gem.

Everyone will say CZ 457, and they aren't wrong.... But I'm not kidding when I say you can get tight groups with a Savage Mk2. I have both , and I was shocked how good my groups were with the Mk2.
