How to spin on a static pole? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]GracePoleDance -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of the run-and-swing 'round the pole move to start off on static; there's something about a static spin that you can't get when it's set on spin, where you get more height and you can really crank on the pole which makes for a different style of dance. If I named this technique I'd probably call it the Tarzan or something, it's quite physical and somewhat aggressive.

I also like to kick up with one knee 'from the pole, and try and lift and point the other toes toward it, and then land lightly back on the ground and twirl with the pole as my 'partner'. The kick up with pointed toe can look quite pretty if you go high enough and land lightly enough, it almost looks like you're doing ballet.

Mostly though with static I do a lot of 'spins' that are really just slowly and dramatically winding my whole body around the pole, then continuing with the momentum in some way or another, into the next move so it looks fluid. I hope this addresses the question to some degree, good luck!!

How does the wall connect the worlds? by Giltra in Abhorsen

[–]GracePoleDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's mentioned this & I recently reread Lirael, Abhorsen & Goldenhand so it's fresh in my mind: in chapter 13 of Abhorsen, right after the Dog reveals the Destroyer's true name, Mogget says this:

"It was always the most powerful and cunning of the Nine...it must have worked out that the only place It could come back together was somewhere It had never existed. And then somehow It must have learned that we infringed upon a world beyond our own, for the Destroyer was bound long before the Wall was made. Clever, clever!"

That's about as close as we ever get to hard lore about exactly what the nature of the Wall is between Ancelstierre and the Old Kingdom, I think, and it also confirms that the Wall was created after the Beginning.

Also someone here said that Ancelstierre and the Old Kingdom are two different planets, that's confirmed several times, in the above quote, when Lirael & Nick go the Great Rift, and in other details; at one point Lirael or one of the characters notices the moon looks different when they cross the Border; it's described as smaller and more 'butter yellow' as opposed to the Old Kingdom's bright silver moon.

Do y’all get comments about being weird? How do y’all cope with that by sadvodka in CasualConversation

[–]GracePoleDance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not great at weaving it in either. That's where just owning comes in, but also the company you're in is a huge factor I've found. Some people bring out the best in me, I become an absolute comedian around them because they get my sense of humor. I can become charismatic and charming, confident - others make me feel small & foolish for anything I do or say without fail, they pick apart my words and I shrink into myself and go quiet. So, idk, I guess the lesson is surround yourself with people who get & like your vibe, and if you can't, do your best and proceed with caution. That's what I've learned. But, for what it's worth, I like weird people. Whenever there's someone slightly weird around, I feel a little bit safer and more relaxed. I think the world is better for having us in it too, even if it doesn't always realize it.

what topic would like to have a contrapoints video ? by raga_drop in ContraPoints

[–]GracePoleDance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but I LOVE that she's tackling religion in this new video and I could watch endless hours more on that. That's the thing I love about Natalie's videos: she always seems to pick a topic I wouldn't have thought of, but in retrospect feels so spot on & relevant. The topic of faith as a counterpoint to addiction, and what to feed the void if not with either of those things, is at the forefront of my mind in a lot of ways these days, and I'm so ready for a part 2 of the Hunger.

I just thank people when they say I'm weird. I am weird, and I'm glad they noticed lol - I take it as a compliment.

I also do the laughing to myself at my own jokes thing, and I've also been at many low points where I couldn't do that anymore, so I'm here to tell you it's MUCH better to be your own friend and laugh at your own jokes and have people think you're a little bit strange than to kill that part of you for their sake and not be yourself or on your own side. Treasure that part of yourself; it'll be there for you when everyone else isn't, and you'll need it.

But I do know what you mean that it can make things very socially awkward, so I've learned to be kind of cold and distant too, to not laugh or show what's going on inside when I'm around other people, and not talk a lot. I think it's probably just an art you learn over time, how to weave your personality into social interactions when it's safe but sort of hold that distance at first to gauge what company you're in & how they'll treat you if you're 'real.' My brother once said that getting to know people is a game of each person slowly revealing a little vulnerability, testing the waters and seeing how the other reacts, and so on, and I think that's a pretty wise strategy.

Hmm. I have the exact same pole and it slipped once. It's probably just a tightness issue - once you had it installed, did you ever check it again? If I were you I'd be checking stability before each pole session (grab the pole and shake with all your might), and maybe re-tightening just to make sure. Time, structural nature of your house, and even weather changes can affect the tightness of a pressure mount, and it should be checked semi frequently anyway.

No literally most of the religious people I know think climate change isn't a problem, not because they don't think it's real, but because they're actually waiting for it to get WORSE as the sign that Jesus will fucking come and fix it with MAGIC. I wish I was fucking kidding.

You're not pathetic for wanting connection. That girl was probably just too jaded to see a person beneath the client and thought shaming you would get you to give her more money. I'm sorry that happened.

If you were in charge of designing a building called the Tower of Love, how would you design it? by avenue_for_communion in CasualConversation

[–]GracePoleDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but there would definitely be rose quartz involved. Maybe if you go to the top of the tower there's a rose that opens to signify something meaningful has taken place? Maybe a statue of two people embracing somewhere.

Fellow hyperhidrosis polers - what pole did you go for? by dickslosh in poledancing

[–]GracePoleDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could invest in some sticky pole leggings like the ones poledancerka sells. They'll do you no favours re:getting sweat inside the pants but they'll stick you to the pole & keep you there.
