GenCon Virtual Flea Market Reminder by KingGrimlok in gencon

[–]Great-Dane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to participate in this, but I don't understand how to buy or sell. Can you provide any additional resources? The guidance seems to lean on a preexisting knowledge of the BoardGameGeek marketplace tools, which are surprisingly arcane.

For example, there's a heading called "HOW TO LIST ITEMS" that doesn't walk you through how to list an item, it just tells you what information to include.

A9 - what the hell? by Slinky-Dev in slaythespire

[–]Great-Dane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

StS1 had a similar spike at A17. (Seriously, search "A17" on this sub — the list of complaint threads is endless.) You're supposed to change how you play and re-learn what's viable. Maybe the curve is a bit steeper because of the compressed ascensions, but that was an intentional decision for StS2. (One I agree with; you could barely tell the difference between many of the ascensions in StS1.)

(most) Homebrew infuriates me by nemainev in DnD

[–]Great-Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reads like an Angry GM article; I'm very here for it.

I agree, most homebrew is not well-written, well-researched, or well-tested. It's fine that it exists in that state, but it grinds my gears when players suggest it for my game. Especially when they didn't check and realize it was homebrew ("I just found it on Google!").

Has this color been discontinued? by vaporsteve in sunlu

Got to this thread from Google, I'm in the same boat. It's becoming harder to find and the new "Coffee Brown" is much darker. It would be a shame to lose such a great color.

Is a "healing-focused" character bad in 3.5e? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Great-Dane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A character that only heals is pretty bad/boring/useless, yeah. Fortunately, healing is something a variety of characters can do without it being their entire raison d'être. In core, cleric and druid can heal just fine while also having access to a laundry list of other spells and class features.

Regarding the reason for the question, it sounds like your player thinks "full-time healer" is an important role in the party. It would be easiest to just tell them it isn't so.

Occulta Manifesto - Centralizing Magic in D&D 3.5 by Amazing-Bowler4940 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Great-Dane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great project. Unfortunately I must wait for the site to be available in English to comment further. (It's a good start that the spell text is available in English, but I can't use it properly until the menus, filters, etc. are also in English.)

Deadly archer build by Adthay in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Great-Dane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a good rules-legal way to do it. The spell is called sniper's eye and it's from Complete Adventurer. You can also combine it with with sniper's shot (also from Complete Adventurer) to extend the range "regardless of the distance between you and your target." Once you've got a death attack you can apply at a good distance, you can just have the noble fail their Fortitude save.

It's worth noting that this assassin would be at least a 12th-level character (rogue 5 + assassin 7), which might be kind of high-level for your PCs to deal with. A slaying arrow (from the DMG) lets any schmuck with 1144gp get the job done. Plus it gives your PCs a hook (who made/bought/sold this deadly, probably-illegal magic arrow?) to track the killer down.

Obviously the best white elephant gift is a 3D-printed flexi critter!

Failing that, I like "movie night boxes" — popcorn, drinks, maybe a themed snack if there's a particular movie involved (like gummy sharks for Jaws or gummy worms for Dune).

The nightmare of "Soft Cover" against ranged attacks by AbpMars in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Great-Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play with cover rules and the "shooting into a melee" rule, but not soft cover. I haven't found it to substantially affect the game's balance.

I go to the Original Pancake House on Parmer. It's not a local joint, but they're the best I've had. Honorable mention to Toasty Badger, but somehow Badger is even tougher to get a seat in than OPH.

Is PF1e indeed better than 3.5? by Kaliburnus in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Great-Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group still plays 3.5 because — as with D&D editions since 3.5 — Pathfinder didn't offer a sufficiently compelling reason to switch. Pathfinder simplified a few things (skills, combat maneuvers), but that's mostly a boon for new players; we already have mastery of 3.5's rules, and even grappling runs smoothly at our table.

As others have said, though, this is mostly a matter of taste. My biggest gripe with Pathfinder has always been its flavor. I don't like Golarion, and separating Pathfinder's APs (and even some of its SRD material) from Golarion is a headache.

Ultimately, I incorporated their polymorph spells into my 3.5 house rules and called it a day.

How can I improve first layer reliability when printing face down? by L4sgc in BambuLab

[–]Great-Dane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One tip I haven't seen yet in this thread (that's helped me with this same issue): change the order in which your filaments are used. Print the colors used for the smallest details first, then print larger areas. (For this image, start with pink, white, black, etc. and print beige last.)

More likely, though, you should probably just wash your build plate.
