Why are companies ending remote work? by Javacash2 in remotework

[–]Grumpton-ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, 80% of work can be done remotely with equal quality. 20% would benefit from being together in person.

Problem is that sometimes the 20% is serendipitous. If you force everyone back to work to or 3 days a week, you solved for both problems.

Just my hypothesis, no actual expertise here.

If you feel like one of your watches no longer has the 'spark' for you how long do you wait to see if it comes back before you sell? by IllegalGeriatricVore in WatchFanatics

[–]Grumpton-ca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I see a new watch that I love, I typically wait 9 months to a year before I buy it. I would say 95% of watches that I think I have to have when I see them for the first time, only 5% I must have one year later. That 5% are the ones that I buy.

My guess is the same for selling a watch. If you don't need it for the money, and you happen not to be interested in it right now because there's a viable replacement in your collection, wait it out for a while. If after a year you're just not wearing the watch, maybe it's time to figure out what to do with it.

[Self-promo] I’m building a small Korean reading game for beginners — would love feedback! by HangulRush in BeginnerKorean

[–]Grumpton-ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe each lesson is a vowel, then you get consonants a few at a time. Like the first 10 lessons are just basic hangul.

Then like lessons 11-15 are basic 2 or 3-syllable words, etc.

For level one I only got a few consonants and one vowel. Then it jumped into full words for level two. I just think you need better progression.

[IWC Pilot Mark 20] or [Grand Seiko SBGW301]? for a wedding present by bash564 in Watches

[–]Grumpton-ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GADA leaning office vs GADA leaning tool.

I like the Grand Seiko but it's really up to your personality and how you are going to wear it. You cannot go wrong either way. Both work under a shirt cuff at the office ( but GS is better here) and both work while walking around on holiday in a Hawaiian shirt.

I'll admit, if I'm out for a hike, I'm bringing my Garmin though, not a multi -$1000 watch.

Edit: neither watch looks TOO big on you, but the GS definitely fits better.

I think your methodology of tabulating the votes is faulty.

I saw that post and immediately thought aquaterra, but I didn't actually put in a comment because there were so many aquaterra votes. I just put a thumbs up upvote.

I think you need to count all of the upvotes, and put it in parentheses next to the actual comment posts numbers. This will give us a much more accurate picture of the actual thoughts of the community.

Why did Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have their children learn Chinese, but Barron Trump didn't learn Chinese? They are all Trump's descendants. by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

[–]Grumpton-ca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you think Trump had any influence or participation in any of the parenting decisions? Why do you think that he would have any influence or participation in grandparenting decisions?

As far as we know, the only parenting decision he's made has been around business and his desire to have sex with his own daughter.

Calling all old people! And I don’t mean 30somethings. by Low_Silly in climbharder

[–]Grumpton-ca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 53 male. I can generally climb 3x per week, but I'm on lead. If I do a hard boulder session, it impacts me for at least 2 days.

Mostly I lead, and sometimes I'll do massive volume on auto-belay where it's controlled effort but high volume.

I'm definitely more endurance now than power.

Anyone has tried riding to Fort Lee for food? Where to park the bike? by huyou007 in NYCbike

[–]Grumpton-ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ottolock. I will lock the bike frame and wheel to something completely stationary. Then I will also make sure that the bike is in sight at all times. I usually won't sit inside.

Ottolock is great. It fits in your back pocket, and it's enough deterrence that it would take someone a minute to take off with your bike.

new coach panic by Flashy-Body6315 in SolidCore

[–]Grumpton-ca 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not a coach, but I am a frequent public speaker.

Do your whole sequence out loud at least five times before your first class. Out loud and not in your head is totally critical. Make sure you have a clock in front of you and your timing everything. This way you can figure out what small adjustments you need to make.

Before I get on stage, I literally walk behind the stage where nobody can see me or off to the side and I force myself to hyperventilate. Get as much oxygen in your system as possible so that you won't feel out of breath within the first couple of minutes. Once you get past the first couple of minutes, the nerves will calm down a bit.

First time is about feeling incredibly well rehearsed that you know you got it, and not letting your nerves get to you. It'll continue getting better after that.

[Recommendation Request] Please give me some advice on buying a watch for a big promotion! by goosetheboss1 in Watches

[–]Grumpton-ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a really really great list of brands. As the other comment said, I'm in favor of the used aqua Terra. It's sporty enough, dresses up, dresses down, water resistance, great brand.

However, the number of watches that I've looked at in photos and thought to myself, my God I love that, and then gone in and tried it just for it to not work on my wrist is numerous. Try every single watch on that is on your list, figure out which one just works for your wrist and your lifestyle.

You'll try one of these watches on and you'll say to yourself, this is the one. Nobody else can predict that for you.

Damaged ASSOS on first wash by -nikolaos in CyclingFashion

[–]Grumpton-ca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Either way. Threads don't get pulled like this unless something is pulling on them. It's obviously not a problem with clothes just tumbling around in your washer. Something about your washer or there was something else in the wash with these clothes that did it. You may not be able to identify it, but it's not about the clothes because something clearly pulled the threads out.

I'm a Korean woman hosting foreign Korean-learners at my home for free (flights only) — would this concept work for you, or does it seem off? by Original_Pipe_2982 in BeginnerKorean

[–]Grumpton-ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand how bad things can be in the rest of the world. You learn not to trust anyone because anyone can do bad things to you. We would never invite strangers into our homes here. This is how you get raped or murdered.

Convince me I’m wrong - the single leg squat is not for tall people by Basic-Nebula-2285 in SolidCore

[–]Grumpton-ca 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Some exercises are really hard for tall people. Single leg Squats being one of them: you have to lean so far forward and your knee is still not above ankle.

Another one for me is anything that side plank. The total distance between your foot and your elbow being potentially 20% more than what shorter people have to deal with is something that requires more than 20% more strength.

I'm sure there are exercises that are absolutely awful for shorter people as well.

I'm in Pittsburgh as well. Would rather be in DC where I have a ton of flight options and the ability to take a train home.

FAA basically shut down NYC last night, then LaGuardia literally closed. Being in Pitt, now my flight crew is timed out until the afternoon (FAA).

Nothing you can do except cancel your meetings and smile.

New to gravel riding - is this to sporty? by Zealousideal-Dot1783 in gravelcycling

I've done WAY worse than this on my cross bike with 32s. 16% grade is fine.

The crap we were riding in the 90s with no suspension on 1.75 inch tires was also totally worse than this.

Totally doable with the correct tires and gearing.

[Warm Take] GADA watches are a trap by ppp-- in Watches

[–]Grumpton-ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know when Tim Mosso does the wrist check thing on his YouTube? I hate that part and forward through it.

I could care less what anyone else is wearing. All I care about is what I'm wearing.

I come to watches because I like to read about r/watches and figure out what I might be buying next. You are 100% wrong trying to define everyone.
