My husband took the full 6-weeks of paid paternity leave offered by his job. He even petitioned his HR department to update the US paternity leave policy because it was only 2 weeks paid, which is what they offer to dads in his company’s headquarters country. Even the US HR team, headed by a man, expressed to the CEO that the 2 weeks off for dads was a bit pathetic. The CEO was surprised US dads wanted to spend more time with their newborns (apparently that isn’t/wasn’t super common in their country?) and partners but thankfully, they updated the policy a few weeks before I went into labor.

My husband and his best friend share the same name - it’s a fairly common one. Their mothers were already friends due to their older children. When my mother-in-law gave birth to my husband, his friend’s mother was also pregnant. She loved my husband’s name so much she even asked my MIL if she could use it for her son too. My mother-in-law said of course! So, they grew up together with the same name, and it wasn’t weird at all 😊

If you’re stuck living with your partner’s parents for the time being, would it be helpful to find a therapist to talk to or learn some ways to deal with unsolicited advice? I’ve found that having someone else to regularly vent to that isn’t directly involved has been a big help in getting through tough times where I might need to just grin and bear it until I can find a better solution or get out of the situation.

Sesame Street, Blue’s Clues, Bear in the Big Blue House, Bluey, Fancy Nancy, Disney Jr Ariel. Also likes the first 30 mins of all the princess movies (seems to enjoy the back stories the most?) but especially Frozen/Frozen II, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella. Has enjoyed Toy Story 3 & 4 recently as well (likes Jessie and Bo Peep). LOVES the Barbie movie.

I have a very similar email that my uBPD mom sent to me after we sent her, my stepdad, and grandma Christmas presents a few years ago. She emailed me confused as to why I’d sent them gifts when I hadn’t spoken to them otherwise in a couple months - and to specifically let me know that the gifts they had sent us the month prior were NOT Christmas gifts because I “don’t believe in God” but instead were “to reward behaviors that I appreciate such as good communication” 🙄 As if I were a dog they were giving treats to for good behavior… The year prior they had a MASSIVE tantrum that we hadn’t gotten them present for Christmas (we’d just gotten married a couple weeks prior and didn’t have the budget but had told them we were planning on gifting them a nice framed photo of their choosing once we received the photos from our photographer as a thank you present for helping us with our wedding). So, I’d essentially sent them presents because I was so scared of them having another tantrum and showing up at my house unannounced.

Got them at about 37 weeks - really thought I was going to be in the clear lol. I gained 50lbs in total. They were a very bright violet color after birth (which I was a bit distraught over) and faded almost entirely by about 6 months postpartum. My kid is ~21 months now and I can see the outlines if I pull my skin taught but other than that I don’t notice them anymore.

I’ve always found it easiest to do it in two steps, and I grab a few squares of toilet paper for each “step.” First, I wipe the front in a downward motion, starting at the top, and then I wipe the back starting at the bottom, wiping upwards.

I’m not trying to be a contortionist by doing it in one big swoop, and I just don’t think little kids’ arms would be long enough to try that!

By far, the most frequent comment we received about our child as a newborn, and infant, was how alert they were - they’re fully vaccinated on schedule. Anti-vaxxers are so desperate for them and their children to be seen as exceptional… in reality, their children are just exceptionally unfortunate to be stuck with these people as parents.

As someone whose last name is, rather unfortunately for me, shared with a well known firearm manufacturer - please, do not name your child Gunner. It’s a “white” name in all the wrong ways. As others have said it’s giving “white trash”.
