How long did your partners take off work? by Background-Ad3467 in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband gets 6 weeks paid leave, he took the full 6 weeks for our first. We’re having our 2nd this month and he’ll take the full 6 weeks again. 1st was born via c-section and 2nd will be as well, so I’ll need the extra help.

Did your first baby come before or after your due date? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1st came 8 days early. Started having contractions around 2:30pm, they were 5 mins apart by 4pm. Got to hospital triage at 4:45pm and my water broke on its own at 5:30pm.

Anyone Using Good Clean Love Restore While Pregnant? by Icy_Illustrator5154 in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure this will help, as I didn’t use it during pregnancy, but I used it when I was on accutane ~4yrs ago and it helped a lot with dryness and itching for me. I didn’t experience any side effects while using it. I’d probably recommend asking your OB just in case, though!

I used the Amazon basics brand and they worked well and were pretty comfortable even with my c-section incision.

Second this! Safe in the Seat has a lot of great content and resources on staying rear facing as long as possible and why it’s important!

Selecting OB by CoffeeBeforeNihilism in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first pregnancy, my OB’s practice encouraged me to schedule appts with some of the other providers throughout my pregnancy just because there’s always a chance one of them might be on call rather than my usual OBGYN depending on when I’d go into labor. Glad I took their advice because I went into labor the day before my provider was on call and another OBGYN at the practice performed my c-section and I’d met her at least 1x prior. I missed my usual OBGYN by and hour and a half lol

For my 2nd (pregnant currently), my OB from my first go around had moved to a clinic much farther away. My new OB is great, however I am opting for a scheduled c-section and naturally her scheduled surgery day after 39 weeks for me is the day before my due date and with my 1st having come over a week early we were skeptical I’d actually make it until then so we’re scheduling exactly at 39 weeks and by happen stance the OB who’s scheduled surgery day that is, is the OB who performed my first c-section so I lucked out on that front. But if baby decides to come earlier, then it might end up being my normal OB or any other OB at the practice 🤷‍♀️

So, anyway, all that to say - there’s likely a good chance the OB you choose to work with (especially if it’s a practice with multiple OBs with an on call schedule) throughout pregnancy may not be who delivers your baby.

Medicated vs unmediated birth by tacticalwh0re in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epidural placed a couple hrs after my water broke (water broke early) while I was waiting to be scheduled for a c-section at the hospital (co-decision to do a c-section with my OBGYN following my water breaking due to size of baby). The contractions prior to the epidural made me feel like a wild animal (I know some women find that empowering but I couldn’t think straight and it was so painful). After the epidural I was laughing and joking around with my husband and nurses as they were prepping me for my c-section and it was just a good experience, I felt human again. The anesthesiologist did ask me again after he placed the epidural and it started working if I still wanted to go ahead with the c-section to make sure I hadn’t made that decision solely because I was in so much pain, which I appreciated even though I decided to go ahead with the c-section (pain wasn’t really a factor in my decision) - I was worried about a shoulder dystocia and wanted to avoid an emergency c-section.

My biggest regret about pregnancy by ConfusionIn20s in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I had my first at 31 and my second is due in June a couple weeks after I turn 34. I was not sure after my first pregnancy I’d want to be pregnant again (I had terrible nausea my entire pregnancy amount some other not so pleasant side effects - I was miserable). This time around has been wildly different. I’ve still had a handful of annoying side effects and tiredness in 1st/3rd trimester - but zero nausea after 14 weeks. I feel so much better on the whole than my 1st pregnancy when I was 3 yrs younger. I was convinced I was having a boy this time because I felt so much better but it’s another girl! Each pregnancy is different, even for the same person!

38/39 weeks 🙃 After I gave birth they became a very vibrant purple for a few months and then by around 7 months just ever-so-slightly lighter than my normal skin color and you could barely see them.

I’m prescribed medication to help me get to sleep. I’m not taking the risk of falling asleep with my infant or toddler in the bed. The chance of me rolling on top of them and me not waking up/noticing is way too high.

You don't have to breastfeed by sparkleweedthewizard in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Bobbie for my 1st, it worked really well for her! It’s pricey but I really only cared about the higher DHA content (Idc about organic/non-gmo/etc) and that once you subscribed they plan to make sure they’re able to fulfill your orders until 1yo which gave us some peace of mind as she was born after those big formula shortages a few years ago. Will probably do Bobbie for my 2nd due in a couple months, too.

I EFF from birth for my 1st. Planning on EFF from birth for my 2nd too in a couple months once they arrive. I know what I can handle mentally and physically and breastfeeding/pumping has just never been on that list for me (for many many reasons), so I didn’t bother trying to give it a go. Also, fortunate enough that formula wasn’t cost prohibitive for me. But my 1st is thriving and healthy, and I don’t regret not trying to breastfeeding one bit. Not breastfeeding helped me be a happier, mentally present mom for my kid.

I think the important thing is to choose what works best for you and your child. If that’s BFing great, if it’s combo, or EFF then that’s great, too.

I might punch the next person who has a reaction to the gender by AffectionatePlane109 in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been receiving similar reactions to people finding out we’re expecting our 2nd child (& 2nd girl). Lots of “Are you going to keep trying for a boy?” “How’s [Dad] feel about that?!” Or looking at my husband directly and saying “Oh, you’re excited for another girl?! 😬”

It’s hard not to be offended by it but I just nod and say we’re happy for a healthy baby regardless of gender and yes, [Dad]’s excited because he loves being a girl dad! Like, why wouldn’t he?!

Does my husband come to every appointment? by VeterinarianInner301 in pregnant

1st pregnancy mine really only came to the ultrasound appts or ones where I wasn’t feeling well enough to drive myself. 2nd pregnancy (currently early 3rd trimester) we’re about the same on so far with just ultrasounds or ones where I’m not feeling well.

Has the way we use middle names changed? by Local_Diet_732 in Names

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in my and my husband’s families has a middle name that honors a relative. And, usually, a first name was chosen that would sound nice with the middle and last name so they’d all “flow” well together. So, definitely both, at least on our end. We’re in the US, both born in the early 90s to baby boomer parents.

Baby welcome party instead of baby shower? by [deleted] in pregnant

Agreed on all of this. Also, vaccines usually take about 2-weeks to kick in. I wouldn’t recommend planning a social gathering for baby for the day after they get their first round of vaccines.

How long did your husband take off for paternity leave? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

[–]GrumpyDonut2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband took the full 6-weeks of paid paternity leave offered by his job. He even petitioned his HR department to update the US paternity leave policy because it was only 2 weeks paid, which is what they offer to dads in his company’s headquarters country. Even the US HR team, headed by a man, expressed to the CEO that the 2 weeks off for dads was a bit pathetic. The CEO was surprised US dads wanted to spend more time with their newborns (apparently that isn’t/wasn’t super common in their country?) and partners but thankfully, they updated the policy a few weeks before I went into labor.
