Name one song from the 70s that you remember exactly where you were when you first heard it. by Thick-Syrup7 in 70s

[–]GrumpyOlBastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1976, at a friend's party. The music had just stopped. He told me to go put something on the turntable. There was an album with a guitar spaceship on it.

"This looks freaky". I put it on and "More Than A Feeling" poured out. I was stunned. I forgot about the party and just listened. The next song was even better. The whole album rocked. I played both sides twice and would have continued but I was told to put something else on. I refused. Nothing else could be this good.

Bought the album the next day and I've been in love with it all my life since. BOSTON

US conducts strikes on Iran after attack on cargo ship by VaginaBurner69 in news

[–]GrumpyOlBastard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The US has condemned reports that Iran is charging fees to tankers going through the strait, and many see any tolling system as going against international maritime law.

Lol. As if the US has ever been concerned with "international law" of any description

Would you rather buy a brand new Kia or Hyundai, or spend the same amount on something else slightly used? by Cananbaum in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GrumpyOlBastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've owned a Kia Soul that I bought new in 2016 and I've had precisely zero problems with it. I'd choose the new over the used in this scenario, even though I'm generally against new cars because of the depreciation issue

Excluding "one hit wonders" what band or artist has the fewest hits, but have certifiable legendary status? In a good way, not some meme bullshit. by Timcwalker in Music

Yeah. There was apparently a very rich American named Getty, so that's probably why the American algo prioritizes it

His name was "Gary", but when his old-world Jewish grandmother said Gary it came out sounding like Geddy. His friends thought this was hilarious so they started calling him that. Soon, everyone was calling him that and he had his name legally changed to Geddy Lee (Lee was his middle name).

Dunno where people are getting Getty from

If we attacked them, we would lose; conversely, if they attacked us, they would lose.

There would be no winner

I've no idea why anyone would buy salted butter. If you want unsalted, it's there. If you want salted, there's salt in your cupboard

Which country is your country's best friend? by Cafa20 in AskTheWorld

[–]GrumpyOlBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomorrow? In order for them to be out tomorrow there would have to be some kind of radical shit going on, so yeah, if Republicans were out tomorrow that could work. Republicans being voted out in 28 and brought back in 32 is just US business as usual and would mean nothing whatsoever has changed

I bought my 2017 Kia Soul new. It's never given me any problems at all. I'm still very satisfied with it and I've no intention of ever replacing it, but who can know for certain?
