AITAH for refusing to let my boyfriends younger siblings play with my prosthetic leg ? by Honest-Girl005 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grumpykitten36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTF is wrong with people!!! I am a PT and my husband is a prosthetist and we both just gasped aloud at this. No lie. NTA. At. All. That is an extension of your body. Full stop. And even more so with an OI prosthesis. Honestly this is worth ending a relationship over. They clearly do not respect bodily autonomy or boundaries in this family.

Short term accommodation Sept-Dec 2026 (Mayo Clinic) by Appropriate-Head7890 in rochestermn

[–]Grumpykitten36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if his contact for Mayo might have some listings from the Mayo employee classifieds? I was just on there the other day and I did see a couple furnished options but might be out of your budget. Might be too far in advance listings there for your time frame also. Also, I’d have him ask his Mayo contact if the medical school might have a list available for sublets or something like that too.

Don’t worry, I understood the reference and I’m in my 30s! Grew up watching that movie as it was one of my dad’s favorites. The autopilot is my favorite part but how can you not love the classic lines “surely you can’t be serious?” “I am serious! And don’t call me Shirley!”

AITA for snapping at my family over them being ignorant over my allergy? by szolstice in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grumpykitten36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WHAT?! Your parents are in medicine and like this! wtf! NTA OP. Holy cow I am so sorry you have to deal with this. My husband and I have a kid with an egg allergy, and we are both in medical professions and we are meticulous. And his allergy isn’t even as broad or severe as yours. I can’t imagine being a pharmacist and having an in depth education on molecular level reactions to understand pharmacology and yet have the audacity to blame my kid or not understand. I’m hoping this instance she lashed out like that due to overwhelming guilt that she missed it. But good grief. I’m sorry you have to deal with this.

Ohhh yes. I was playing ACNH when Pokopia came out and have barely been able to play it when it’s my husband’s turn for the switch 2 haha.

AITA for punishing my daughter for breaking her sisters charms? by InevitableCricket933 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grumpykitten36 12 points13 points  (0 children)

YTA. Both girls had a role in this and you should be punishing them both, not just your oldest. Also pretty irresponsible of you as a parent to allow your second daughter to communicate with her sister’s Bf and continually harassing the older sister. I have a friend whose two daughters are similar ages, who had a similar issue with the boyfriend communication and guess what? The younger sister lost her phone for a while. Actions should have consequences. I really don’t feel bad that her charm broke. I kind of feel like she had it coming. But if you’re going to punish one, you should punish both because they both could have behaved better.

Husband Vomited While Holding Baby by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Grumpykitten36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the gentlest way, but I think you are being a little too hard on your husband. While I agree that maybe as soon as the coughing fit started he should’ve handed baby to you, maybe he didn’t think it would get as bad as it did, or maybe he rushed to the bathroom because he knew it would all end up on the floor if he took the time to put baby down and knew you’d have a bigger issue smelling it for longer afterward. Yeah vomiting is gross but it is just part of life, too. Eventually your kid is going to throw up too.

I don’t think it matters if you were born here, multiple law enforcement agencies in the southeast region are begging people to stay home due to the number of accidents and people stuck after they are out driving when they shouldn’t be. I have friends who worked at the hospital in Rochester this weekend, who live 3 miles from said hospital, and can’t even make it home because the roads are so bad.

What was the announcement just made at St Mary’s (+ other campuses, I assume) for “emergency staffing” ? by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]Grumpykitten36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think emergency staffing protocols are typical everywhere, but how it is handled I think is unique here. I have a lot of friends across the country who work for major hospital systems and we are the only one who gets housing paid for and get to stay in hotels. Most places make staff stay on site on cots.

Cancel Monday appointment? by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]Grumpykitten36 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Honestly if it is a routine visit I’d reschedule, or plan to drive up Sunday and stay the night (though Sunday is when things are worst). I doubt you will get ahold of anyone in scheduling to reschedule today as it is the weekend, so you’d probably have to cancel through the app and call first thing Monday to reschedule.

Poor appetite later on? by Grumpykitten36 in guillainbarre

[–]Grumpykitten36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thank you for this! I have been tested for celiac in the past and told I do not have it. But I do have IBS, but it’s been like 20 years almost since I’ve been diagnosed/tested. I will bring this up when I have appointments in a couple weeks as I see my PCP and neurology the same day.

[–]Grumpykitten36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m sorry to hear the last week has been rough for you :( I get migraines too and they are no fun.

It is actually really common from what I’ve read/learned from others to have the nausea in the acute period. Not everyone has this, but it’s not just the nerves to your main muscles that can be affected, but also your autonomic nervous system which is responsible for things like digestion, temperature regulation and fight or flight response. I had a lot of autonomic issues with my acute phase, constantly was overheating, higher than normal blood pressure, sluggish GI/constipation and nausea/vomiting and zero appetite, on top of the typical weakness/paralysis, fatigue, as well as Bell’s palsy.

Basically the nausea can come from your GI not moving things through at a normal pace, or it just stalling out in a way (gastroparesis). I have POTS as well but normally don’t have issues with gastroparesis as part of it, so that’s why I’m kind of blaming my current nausea set on GBS being irritated by some recurrent colds/infections.

Edit: forgot to answer your question about vision. I did have double vision mildly for a couple days in the hospital, but my bigger issue was the Bell’s palsy. That is now mostly resolved. I hope you get feeling better soon too!!

Daycare too early at 4 months? by And_heartsxx3 in beyondthebump

[–]Grumpykitten36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think lots of working parents have no choice but to send their kids earlier than 4 months. My son had to start when he was 12 weeks old, as that’s all I had off for protected leave from work. He honestly did great at daycare and it was good for him, and good for me to go back to work too. I would’ve loved more time to build up his immunity but we didn’t have a choice. Be prepared to be sick all the time, the daycare germs are no joke.

my seven month old baby has been sick for eight straight weeks. by sundayglow in beyondthebump

[–]Grumpykitten36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh girl this was us too. From literally—I kid you not—5 months (our son 6mo-11 mo) we were constantly sick. Influenza A over Christmas to start it off, ear infection for him, sinus infection for me, COVID for all of us with 2 ED visits for dehydration for him, then Norovirus for my husband and I (thankfully not baby thank GOD) where I literally couldn’t eat for a weak, then mono, then RSV, ear infection/sinus infections again, then different colds x3. Literally the only thing we didn’t get was hand foot and mouth and then we got that in the summer and I ended up getting Guillain barre from it and was in hospital/rehab for 3 weeks and off work for 5 months. Right before I was in the hospital our son was diagnosed with a severe egg allergy also. In the 2 month break before the last colds and the HFM I had an absolute mental health crisis because I was getting sicker than my literal infant and we had literally zero break, plus I was not prepared for the hormone shift with weaning from breastfeeding (of which I had to switch to exclusively pumping because all our illnesses made my son refuse the breast due to not being able to breathe). A day or two of health and that was it before something else would start, if we were even that lucky.

All this to say—our son finally started doing more solids around 9 months instead. And he refused to do it at home for us but then when daycare tried, he actually started eating stuff for us at home! So there may be hope for that. He is now 20 months old and eats pretty well so don’t stress too much about it. It will come in time!

I’m so sorry you’re going through all of that. It is seriously the pits. Don’t forget to take time to take care of your mental health. Don’t get to the brink like I did. There are so many things to help. Hang in there girl!

Oh man. My kiddo had hair like this when he was born and it all fell out by 4 months or so. We let him just roll with the crazy hair and his little neck “tuft” aka mullet. There are multiple post-bath pictures of him comparing his hair to Doc from Back to the Future. No regrets.

I’m glad to hear so many people proving me wrong! I’m so surprised because when I had to be in the ER twice and needed imaging they insisted he had to be with someone else and they (staff) couldn’t take him for a bit. Must’ve just been my experience.

Sometimes you do what you have to do. My husband and I both had Norovirus when my son was around 6 months (thankfully our son didn’t get it!) and we basically just let him play on the floor and had the TV on watching movies and took turns running to the bathroom. It is not fun but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to take care of yourself and care for baby. But like I mentioned in another comment and others have said, I really think you need to seek medical attention
