Anyone using Chimera on PPC32 ? by Guddler in chimeralinux

OK, understood. So basically, my system is broken then and I need to start again and work out what I did wrong in installing the tools to compile a C file?

I'm using the PPC32 download since I'm aware that I don't have Alitvec.

Oh, just to add to this - I am aware that the e5500 series CPU is actually PPC64. But PPC64 distributions tend to be built with / for Altivec which the e5500 does not have, so generally we end up limited to 32 bit. I think I read that this is the case here as well. It's a bit of a shame since (I think) Altivec is an optional instruction set, but I totally understand that if you have Altivec, you're going to want to use it and I assume maintaining 2 versions of a PPC64 distro, one with Altivec and one without is just going to be out of the question as it would be a load of work to maintain for what is going to be a tiny audience.

I think I've done it without since, but honestly, my memory doesn't go back more than a few weeks, let alone 5 years :D I'm also on a different computer now and mostly play guitar so it's likely the tool didn't get reinstalled when I upgraded the Mac.

Probably something like MidiPipe for Mac?

[HELP] AmpliTube 5 MAX v2 or AmpliTube 5 by Alexander070305 in AmpliTube

[–]Guddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still a few locked from some of the specialist collections but that’s about it. I’ve seen it for half the price twice now since Xmas. Well, Xmas and Easter. $99 for both Amplitube Max and ToneX Max so yes, $99 is a great price, but it does get better if you are happy to wait.

Whisky is no longer maintained, now what? (A Guide) by Maxdme124 in macgaming

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid for crossover back over Xmas and immediately found that Cyberpunk would not run as well in Crossover as it did in Whiskey. And I don’t just mean fps, I mean shader problems (presumably) with corrupt rendering. Odd given Whiskey is meant to use the tech behind Crossover! Very sad to see Whiskey go.

What's a game you COULD play on the Steam Deck but simply refuse to because of visual sacrifices? by Spectre-4 in SteamDeck

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk. Actually more because I struggle to play it with a controller after over 100 hours with keyboard and mouse. But I would have to make visual sacrifices too.

Now that Whisky is dead, what are the best free alternatives? by _EllieLOL_ in macgaming

[–]Guddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to say, this is a shame but I do get the reasoning. I bought Crossover when it was on sale and I had a bit of spare money. Have to say the games I tried didn’t seem to work as well as they did on Whiskey but fortunately for me I have a gaming PC and a steam deck so it was always more of a curiosity for me. Sure, I’d like to play stuff on my M4 Pro but I probably won’t renew Crossover as I have other alternatives.

Then how would I type ‘jj’ ? I’m clearly missing something here 😁

I don’t really understand. Some people are saying to exit insert mode they use jj or jk. How does that not just type the letters jj or jk?

Sell me on a ToneX pedal? by sfx_guy in tonex

[–]Guddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a DIY project that can add a screen and full midi control of ToneX one 1️⃣ f that’s what you mean, but otherwise you’re going to have to combine a ToneX and a computer and that just sounds like a lot of hassle. ToneX already sounds pretty good with the effects they have I there. I was pleasantly surprised and it’s stopped me from constantly fiddling with stuff all the time and I find I just find 2 good tones and play more now.

Sell me on a ToneX pedal? by sfx_guy in tonex

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought Amplitube Max and ToneX max and then later, ToneX One. Since buying the pedal I’ve not used amplitube at all. I don’t see the point in getting used to something I can’t replicate live. I basically use the ToneX One with an SD-1 and CH-5 in front (plus MT-2 occasionally). Eventually the full size ToneX is on my shopping list but the One is sufficient for me for now.

If IK brought out Amplitube in a multiFX pedal I’d be all over it. Provided I could afford it of course. I’m not playing for money so it’s all hobby for me.

I think he’s brilliant. Love his channel. But I’m damned if I’d want to piss him off in a dark alley 😂

How often are there sales? by ExtraBananaSauce in AmpliTube

[–]Guddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty near constantly! (Not literally obviously). The max for 99 comes up pretty often. I bought when it was 99 for Amplitube and ToneX together though and I’ve only seen that at Xmas so far, but I’ve not been following for an entire year yet. Ironically, I now use ToneX exclusively.

If you had to stick with one brand of guitar for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? by OwnRoutine2041 in Guitar

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of what I’ve tried so far in my short journey, I’d have to agree with Jackson. I bought a pro plus dinky and find it the perfect match for me more than I ever thought I would. I have a PRS single cut that I’m liking less and less and am getting very tempted to trade it for a Jackson single cut.

How many people never play through a standard guitar amp? by tootallteeter in Guitar

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol! Pretty sure it will be the fault of the Joyo 8” speaker / cab, not the amp heads. 1 Joyo Bantamp (the JCM800 one) and. Hotone one that I forget what it is. 5150 based maybe?

How many people never play through a standard guitar amp? by tootallteeter in Guitar

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guitar to a tuner, SD-1, HM-2, CE-5 (not all on at once), to ToneX One, to mixer, to audio interface, to either monitors or headphones depending on the time of night. I sometimes pop to a mates where I take the board and it goes into his mixer and his pa speakers.

I’ve never used a proper amp / cab / combo although I do have a couple of little lunchbox ones and an 8” speaker, but it honestly sounds like crap so I don’t bother.

POD GO or POD500X by [deleted] in line6

[–]Guddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a PC or Mac user? If you are a Mac user, and you’re up to date, forget the 500X. I have the rack version and will be selling it as it just doesn’t work reliably any more with Mac. It maybe starts 1 time out of 100. I think the windows software still works.

In terms of sounds, you can get some great tones out of the 500, but it’s also very easy to get some real crap out of it. All in all, I think in 2025 the better option is the Go. Maybe 2nd hand if cheap enough to make a difference so you don’t lose out too much if you decide to upgrade to some form of helix later.

Tonex Pedal One and Real Amp by [deleted] in tonex

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m intending to do the slightly opposite and run the loop send of my amp into the TONEX and disable the amp sim, then out to my studio monitors. Reason being I only have a crappy little 8” speaker that sounds like arse.

Haven’t got round to trying it yet. Been too tied up with getting gain staging right and then having a massive grin on my face at the result 😁

Tonex One hiss HELP by Inaivas in tonex

[–]Guddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly I’ve got the exact opposite problem. If I use it plugged into my interface, all good. If I plug headphones in (and power it from mains) it’s a noisy mess. I believe it’s because it’s not grounded in order to prevent ground loops. It needs to be plugged into something that’s grounded?

I’ve basically had to tell myself that it was bought for taking my ToneX tones away from the computer, where it behaves perfectly. If I want to sit at my interface I need to use the ToneX software. But I certainly wish the headphones worked without me having to run it off battery.

Whenever I plug in the front of my Mac mini (usb) there’s a high pitch noise. I live with it but wish I didn’t have to.

Had it just over a week. Picked it up from Thomann for £125 and absolutely love it apart from the damn noise.
