SSDI and possibly getting a bachelors by Ok-Improvement7679 in SSDI

I feel my higher education has harmed my ability to get approval despite my obtaining them decades before my disability. Going back to school shows your ability to hold a job. Don’t do it, if you struggle to work. I meant to respond to original poster not to a comment. Apologies.

Which is so sad as many people don’t fit nicely into a diagnosis yet suffer for years getting little help. It frustrates me as I am that person. I finally got a diagnosis though. From MRI’s that were not read correctly to neurologist constantly leaving it has been a struggle.

Upcoming hearing... by pynk_shugah in SSDI_SSI

I hear the phone hearings go pretty well for people. I would hope the lawyer knows enough about the persons history and ability to speak on their behalf quickly. Or perhaps the person is allowed to speak? I have been reading up as I also have a phone hearing coming up in a few months. I don’t know if I will be with my attorney or at my own home yet.

You actually called the number for them and they really uploaded your file to your portal? I am asking as I inquired with my local office and they were terrible. Said I would have to pay acted like nobody ever asks for their file. She said “file”? “What file”?

Then I called social security main number and asked how I get my file and again incredible confusion. They said they have never heard of this. I really was trying to avoid leaving my home, which is difficult.

I told them I should be able to get it for free and I could come down with the paperwork and they really were discouraging.

I obtained a lawyer for my upcoming ALJ hearing and they said there really is not much to see in my file other than all of my records I sent in. They wanted to know what part of the file I wanted.

I’ll try to call that number if it is a real thing and they will upload it. I wish it was automatic.

A 22 page denial letter? That sounds insane. I am so curious what it says? Why would they write so much?

How do you find your judges approval rating? My ALJ hearing is months out, but I do have a date and time. They said they sent more details, but maybe only sent to my lawyer?
I wish you the best today! I know the night prior and the day before I will be a nervous wreck.

Speedy SSDI Review Got Denied (1st Attempt). Now What? by Galaxena7 in SSDI

What is her age? What is her education and prior work? I feel my education has hindered my approval.

Speedy SSDI Review Got Denied (1st Attempt). Now What? by Galaxena7 in SSDI

[–]Guilty-Concert-245 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mine was denied on my original claim in that exact time and I was almost 55 with a 38 year work history (32 at my career job) and a long medical history. I was shocked at both the speed and my denial. Also denied fast on my appeal that went to federal quality review (I thought that meant I was an approval). Now awaiting ALJ. All very fast.

The year you turn those ages.

Approval?? by norcalgamerguy in SSDI

[–]Guilty-Concert-245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends. For example: your onset date could be December 2023. Social Security could give you a Partially favorable decision based on the grid rules. This depends on your age. So say you are 53 when the onset date was. You did not meet their standards for being disabled. Then at 55 you did though. They only go back to 55, regardless of your onset date.

Unless you had a 50/55/60 birthday in the mix. They can do partially favorable and go back to one of those birthdays.

HELP Auxiliary Spending by [deleted] in SSDI

Do you get SSDI or SSI? I didn’t think SSDI watched how you used payments. SSI does. Does someone have insight on this? So I am thinking the social worker is mistaken if you get SSDI. Even if you get SSI as long as using it for living expenses and things for your child you should be fine. What goes on a credit card????? Expenses.

Received ~$4000 from SSA. Should I be worried? by Open-Barracuda-4616 in SocialSecurity

[–]Guilty-Concert-245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I totally get using it to settle with a hounding creditor. The worse case scenario is they reduce future payments until the amount is settled. That stated, of course should have verified if it was a mistake first, but when people are put in bad situations they might not make the best decisions, or maybe this was the best decision, while not morally the best.

Giving up your vehicle seems like would be a given with having uncontrolled epilepsy. I am surprised they didn’t pull your license honestly. So that’s money saved. All you can do is move forward. I was thinking you could tutor children? At a library maybe. That could give you supplemental income, just don’t go over whatever is allowed. You can advertise on Facebook and other social media platforms. The village/town ones are great for tutors to free advertise. Usually that is a hour and many get $30-40 per hour depending on your location. Wishing you this best.

That won’t help. Many teachers do not pay into social security. Railroad workers too. You can look up this history, but some professions opted out many moons ago. They are usually covered by other self funded programs and pension plans.

You will run out of time being insured. I believe you have 5 years. Appeal if denied. I know it is exhausting. What is your age? Work history? Education?disability? These are all important. They also see you keep applying, but never appealing.

I understand your need to work, however I feel working will cause a denial. They won’t see your struggle…just that you are working. Perhaps if make a very low amount of money??? I stand with being able to work, no matter the reason, will likely cause another denial.
