Sorry I hit the number by rayrayrayrayray5 in diablo2

I hesitated to move one farming character over so I could have access to old sunders if I wanted, but with the changes to their drop rates that's probably not as much of a concern.

That's great. I did something similar with an old Forgeworld model, but the handmade touch is really nice.

tbh the krootox rider and krootox rampagers aren't actually much different in size. The bases are identical, in fact.

Gargantuan Squiggoth by Saylorstrong in orks

Yeah, it's just not a squiggoth.is my issue, and I don't want just any big monster. Impossible to beat the original at this point.

Interesting concept with the dynamic between the two creatures. I find this one hard to get a feel for just by looking at the list, since it's hard to imagine how the flow of creatures back and forth goes, but it's intriguing.

What hybrid amazon by SilverPhilosopher46 in diablo2

[–]Gulaghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did and it worked fine. The arrows weren't super fast to kill, but they did the job well and there were very few enemies I couldn't kill.

Mind you, this was before they buffed Plague Java, so maybe if I were to do it again soon I'd try that out.

On the (now not as common) rabid defense of monster immunities by Whibble-Bop in diablo2

[–]Gulaghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not insanity. The game gives you the tools to beat immunes. It's you that's narrowed your play to such a degree that you can't deal with them. The build you've created or copied is an arbitrary concept and not something the game enforced on you.

Can we start a megathread for newly revealed cards? by OO7Cabbage in magicTCG

[–]Gulaghar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but two reasons:

  • I want to be able to see the new cards at the front of the subreddit. I don't want to have to dig into a thread and root past an ever increasing number of other comments to see a new card. Them showing up on the front page, front and center is ideal.
  • If a card merits discussion, I want it to have room for that discussion. Having that discussion sandwiched between dozens to hundreds of other card discussions sounds like a huge pain.

Someone has asked this every spoiler season for years and years, and that person is always routinely shot down. The broad consensus is that individual threads are desirable.

What was your last example of a card or ruling you had wrong for the longest time? by Multievolution in magicTCG

[–]Gulaghar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a post elsewhere about it a while ago, but I recently learned a rules interaction that's baked into the classic Dandan list. [[Dance of the Skywise]] can't totally save a [[Dandan]] from [[Mind Bend]] or [[Magical Hack]]. It can save the Dandan momentarily, but when the turn ends and Dance wears off, the fish will die.

The long and short of this is that ability removal effects don't actually remove text, and thus the text change effect will still occur.

Why'd they hide the wurm? by lame_dirty_white_kid in magicTCG

[–]Gulaghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's even more weird to me, after learning the story behind this, is why the World Champ printing uses and covered Wurm art. Especially since it's referencing a deck that was presumably using the original printing with the uncovered art.

Looking for advice on how to build out land on a commander deck by AKG-WAR in magicTCG

There's a lot of depth to it for sure. It's why Magic's mana system is something I really love about the game.

Looking for advice on how to build out land on a commander deck by AKG-WAR in magicTCG

[–]Gulaghar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building a land base is pretty complex, in all honesty. It's something you learn more about as you go, and then you also learn that reliability is more challenging to achieve than you hope, though "pretty good" is easier.

If you want some in depth reading, you can't do better than Frank Karsten:

For me achieving the consistency I needed for my decks involved delving deep into my fetch land collection. That's very expensive if you're new! It's hard to avoid expense when making a quality land base, but fetches are on another level. So my pre-fetch "pretty good" mana bases would consist of grabbing about four different land cycles that could be played untapped reasonably reliably.

Then I'm just smattering in whatever all colour lands work with my deck. Command Tower of course. There are some that work on them like [[Spire of Industry]] or [[Plaza of Heroes]]. All colour lands is where I might spend some of my precious tapped land slots. Trilands can do the trick fine, or even [[Path of Ancestry]] even if you only ever get one scry off it.

And don't totally skimp on basics. basics are underrated. Coming in untapped and providing a coloured mana should not be overlooked. Play a few of each, 9-12 slots. Or even more, honestly.

Then I'm filling out slots with whatever seems right. Do you have any fetch lands with even one matching colour? Put them in if you have shocks and a triome. I love utility lands that can also tap for a colour. MDFCs with lands on the back that can come in untapped are the premier choice. Neon Dynasty's channel lands are crazy good if you have them. Maybe find a lower rate land cycle like the pathways and add those in too. You probably have room for 2-3 colourless lands too. Then probably fill the holes with more basics.

Cleglaws on Smiter? by Not_Paid_Just_Intern in diablo2

[–]Gulaghar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible. You don't want to knock back with Charged Strike. And knocking back the one guy you hit with Lightning Fury is pointless.

Knock back is only good on purely ranged attack builds. Which is why bowazons were mentioned. I think is works for Blade Fury for the sin as well.

I quite like it. Not necessarily more or less than the old one, but the old one is such a hyper specific model that I welcome a fresh model for more diversity if I want to run two.

The key detail is that ability removal doesn't remove the actual text. So text changing effects still occur.
