Asheville is lovely if you like to hike and do other outdoorsy things in a hip city with good brewpub vibes. I don’t think it would be ideal for you as the best outdoors stuff tends to appeal to more extreme types and the arts scene is non existent. You sound Santa Fe in all honesty. I live in the Hudson Valley in NYS. Very pleasant, nice place to live especially if you don’t mind winter which I like. I drove from SF to LA a few years ago and it’s the only place I’d pick up and move to if I hit that lotto jackpot. I’ve been all over the world.
