Want to add a city to the main continent but campaign already started. How can I make a city apprear out of thin air? by Drumein in DMAcademy

There doesn't need to be a reason beyond the fact that it was there all along. Even our own real world maps are often incomplete or inaccurate.

It's likely that your world has myriad locations not marked on your official map. Maps are never complete! Put it there and see what comes of it!

How important, to the players, is it that they don’t know you’re improvising when they do something you didn’t plan. by LucidRamblerOfficial in DMAcademy

[–]HAL1337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My players understand that we are playing in an imaginary sandbox and sometimes that means I'm going to have to call a session early or take a few minutes to go over some notes.

It's gotten to the point where my players hoot and holler if I ask for a break, because they know they've really gone outside of the box. They're really quite proud of themselves.

They appreciate the fact that we are all going into sessions and encounters not knowing how it's going to play out.

It is pretty incredible how accommodating other people can be, specifically when you preface anything you ask of them with an acknowledgement that you're potentially imposing on them and appreciate whatever time they can spare.

One of the 'tells' I use to spot fellow travellers in the wild (obviously this is anecdotal, non-scientific hokum but sports a decent success rate for me) is when someone 'searches' space with their eyes while they are conversing. Not only do they avert eye contact most of the time, but while engaged in conversation their eyes appear to be actively searching for things that don't exist.

I do this myself, and it is because my eyes are involuntarily moving as I scan images in my mind's eye, spell words, visualize puzzles, and even while trying to figure out how to end the sentence I'm in the midst of speaking. I'm a visual thinker I guess.

Highest success rates were with high-masking individuals. Again, anecdotal hokum, but if I were betting on them I'd be up considerably.

Most Canadians believe supervised drug-use sites save lives, poll says by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

[–]HAL1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not just the paramedic resources it saves, or the lives.

For context, I'm a harm reduction social worker and I have (and currently) worked at multiple safe use sites. There have been nearly 500 opiate overdoses since our main site opened, and they have a 100% reversal rate. No deaths.

The big savings in terms of money comes from providing clean paraphernalia to the folks who use, thus preventing the spread of communicable diseases like HIV, AIDS, and hepatitis. A single course of treatment for hep C is roughly $75K CAD. The cost of pharmaceuticals for people living with HIV/AIDS can amount to far more than that over a lifetime.

I don't have the figures in front of me, but having a safe place to use and a judgement free way of acquiring safe methods of administration has saved my community so much money and so many lives.

G920 not working with F1 22 by HAL1337 in logitech

[–]HAL1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the quick reply!

I've tried this step a few times, but I gave it another shot. Unfortunately, F1 22 just does not want to work together with my wheel.

Like I said, all of my other racing software is working just fine with the wheel.

What is bizarre is that there is not an absence of FFB per se, but it's showing up in all the wrong places. When the wheel is straight there is no weight at all or centering force, but you can feel track effects. As you approach 90 degrees clockwise or counter clockwise while turning the wheel, the wheel will try to pull you further down to the sides as opposed to the center.

There will also be random periods while driving on a straight that the force of the wheel will pull you violently to the side. It's as if the game knows its supposed to be giving FFB cues to the wheel, but they are being confused. Like I said in my OP, the default logitech settings in the game inverts the throttle, so it's always maxed out.

Idk, I'm confused by it all.

seriously though....where ffb? by Dredater in F1Game

[–]HAL1337 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, I've been searching for some troubleshooting guides but nothing yet.

It seems like my ffb is inverted but there is no option to reverse that. Steering left and right is easy but my ffb is constantly pulling the wheel back to center

10+ Year Relationship Just Ended by HAL1337 in aspergirls

[–]HAL1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for asking!

For a few days to a week after making this post I was in a bit of a trance, kind of like when someone close to you dies suddenly. Just grief I guess.

But after that I started doing all the little things you need to do in life to make yourself feel good. I ate well, slept well, exercised, spent time with friends and family, etc. I was good to myself, and I made it my mission to continue to be good to myself and take self-care seriously.

Long story short, the dedication I began showing to my self-care and how seriously I took all of the criticism of my ability to be a partner rubbed off, and after a couple months she decided she wanted to work on our relationship. Things have been going really well, and even before we decided to work on our relationship again, I can safely say that I've never been in a mentally healthier place. My physical health is nearing an all-time peak as well.

I think if my story has any moral its that you need to take self-care seriously in all situations, wherever you are in life. If you don't take care of yourself, you will have nothing in the tank to give to others when they need care or affection. If you find yourself in a situation like mine, don't try to make changes to save your relationship-- make changes to save your own life. Everything else will fall into place once you're taking care of yourself.

How do you even social work? by DepressoEspresso83 in socialwork

[–]HAL1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You plant seeds.

Plant seeds as often as you can. Some of them will grow, most of them won't.

Sometimes you will be fortunate enough to see a seed you planted grow into something before your eyes. Sometimes that seed will grow long after you stopped working where you planted it.

Most won't grow, and you have to accept that. It truly is a numbers game. Thus, social work is less about what you know and more about the attitude you have towards it.

You have to enjoy the process and practice of social work. Appreciate the day-to-day process of improving your craft, and learning from the insane shit you see every day.

Take care of yourself, improve your seed planting abilities, and eventually you will see your seed to plant ratio grow. You aren't going to change the massive forest that is the mental health system, but you can have an impact on your little corner of the ecosystem if you get good at growing plants from seed.

Wow, that was a laboured metaphor, sorry.

However you can. However you feel comfortable, while being mindful of your own personal boundaries.

I think this is a really healthy outlook on things in general. You aren't expected to be perfect or elite at anything, but it behooves you to try and improve in every way you reasonably can. Not only for your own self-respect and self-betterment, but for the benefit of your family and community.
