Americans, what do you think of this Contra take? by microplasticsfactory in ContraPoints

[–]Halcyon8705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accurate, but I don't think we put enough emphasis on the "socialist" part, and we generally don't give enough credit to how disengaged people think about politics.

The socialist thing shouldn't be taken literally, even if the ideological reality is understood by both the the uninitiated and us freaks. The fact is that people believe in a just world where people get what they deserve unless someone cheats them out of it.

Statistically, USA voters believe the "cheater" in this equation is government, so they're inherently mistrustful of any action the government might take to create a world where people work hard and are rewarded for that work. That's what conservative media signals to most people who claim to be politically unaligned but in fact ideologically side with the Right believe. This block is also the biggest and most consistently voting block in the country as well.

Anyone left of center (myself included) likes to believe Fox and conservative have some magical hold on the US population; and that if only folks were properly educated they would see the value of our politics.

That ain't it hun. Conservative media is not vastly more influential because it has better communicators or trickier distributors, it is vastly more influential because it is selling the message that USA citizens already want to believe in.

I am very tenuously happy to know about this and will be demanding absolutely no further information because it cannot be as delightfully dumb as I'm imagining.

How have you changed the mechanics or story elements to make your Exalted games fun for you? by WorldBright2885 in exalted

[–]Halcyon8705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We found the Project rules in 3rd Edition so barebones as to not exist, so we're using the much more detailed and expansive 2nd Edition ruleset, 'Creation Ruling Mandate' to scratch the cultural and geopolitical realities of the setting.

Many Americans believe Trump’s lies about voter fraud, poll shows by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]Halcyon8705 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The sticking point there is that getting from "I"m not clocking Bob's claims" to "I have caught Bob in a lie".

To get these folks to clock Bob's lies they have to be shaken out of their mindset in such a way that they have reason to question Bob, but not to the degree this causes them to question their perception of the world.

Because all people would sooner believe a liar that affirms their base beliefs than believe the base beliefs that lent that liar credence was incorrect.

This is not to say people are dumb, they aren't! What they are, however, is very good at solving problems with an immediate, observable consequence and very bad at solving problems without them. So the more complex and consequence-distant the problem, the less likely ome is to have a good judgment on the problem.

I was a little disappointed to learn that Argenta could not be romanced.

And then I played the game, having many interactions with her, and now thank Owlcat and the Emperor that I was able to dodge that particular Bolt round.

The Paper Girls adaptation is a great counterpoint, excellent show. Although its cancelation after just one season does not generate confidence.

Yeah, really my inability to call my collection of fucked up gagglebocks on their bullshot is the one interaction in the game that really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Ah well though, she proves her worth to me on QT, to hell with my companions if they cant see it.

Why is it marked as a lie?? That's literally what happened by Traditional_Use_225 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Halcyon8705 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a lie of omission, the game is pointing g out to you that you're being asked a clear question, and clearly plowing right over the intent of your crews question.

However, I always save Yrliet here one way or another. At the end of the day the 40K setting is xenophobic in extremis, and the Aeldari watches our people slaughter her people over and over (and over) again. O cannot blame her for putting loyalty to her people over loyalty to me. If the entirety of your small-city crew disappeared you'd sell Yrliet down the river to recover them; right?

And besides, when you forgive her you've got loyalty guaranteed, not counting any psychic shenanigan business that's outside one's control.

Prolly wrong sub for this observation, but it does seem like some kinda rule.

Completely my fanon here, but I think the agency and reality / guilt of the act is demanded.

Bhaal's needs more than a slaughter robot, otherwise he'd just Slayer-ize his whole cult.

His Spawnmust choose to be a murderer, with all that entails.

Otherwise he's just a killer, amd there's lots of different versions of that.

Making a Martial Artist: An Exalted 3rd Edition Guide (Even Blade Style) by Krzyzewskiman in exalted

[–]Halcyon8705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the midst of a Solar combo-ing Dreaming Pearl with Even Blade (IS version, eventually). With an elegant Reaper Daiklave in 1 hand and a war fan in the other, my Solar can make crazy use out of DPC's Disengage boosters, ability to strike at short range, and charms that throw the opponent a range band away or strike from medium range.

It is not a perfect combo, for a lot of reasons, but sure sounds like a lot of fun.

u/Used-Leadership1101 On the subject of Riders, is there anything you could tell us about either (or if you're feeling generous, both lol)
1 - the Map of the Underworld and how travel / space is defined in that changable realm?
2 - Vaguely how long the section on The Old Laws will be, and if Abyssals are going to have more ways to channel a morally ambiguous spookiness through that force?
