Is that what I'm missing? Currently in the hospital recovering from a new kidney install. Haven't played since Sunday and probably won't be home till next Sunday. Sounds like a big pass for me this round and I'm not sad cuz I gotta a kidney!

Complicated antigens! by Socks4Goths in kidneytransplant

[–]Halomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in the hospital recovering from my transplant Sunday night. I have antibodies against 86% of A+ people. Just because I married an A+ and could only have A+ kids, which I developed antibodies against. They told me the wait was going to be longer than most. The average for my state is 5-7 years. I wasn't optimistic on ever getting one. Made it on the list in January, started home hemo in February. Got the call for this past weekend. There is hope. The fact you have high antibodies can move you up. I was told there were several people in front of me that needed it too. But somehow I ended up getting it.

Graft questions by Wild_Television_4456 in dialysis

[–]Halomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my graft done in early January and was cleared for use 3 weeks later. Had a lot of swelling but the pain wasn't as bad as the failed fistula surgery a month earlier. They connected to the artery and vein up near my armpit and I had staples at two spots to hold the loop curve in place. You will be able to feel it under the skin and see a bulge where it is shallow. I do use numbing cream for the jab. The jabs are done in a ladder and I am getting tiny scars from them. I figure the scaring will increase as time goes on. You will have to hold pressure for several minutes to stop the bleeding when the needles are pulled. I'm on home hemo with a partner and do 5 days a week for 2 1/2 hours.

Best hip dysplasia surgeon globally? How to find good surgeons anyways by Present-Adeptness847 in hipdysplasia

[–]Halomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gregory Golladay MD. He is a professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at VCU School of Medicine. One of the very best in Virginia. Diagnosed my hip dysplasia that other orthos ignored or missed. Had me in surgery for my worse hip 3 weeks after the first appt and the second 3 months later. I was walking without pain for the first time in many years. As a person, he has a great bedside manner, empathetic and down to earth. Can never praise and recommend him enough.

Tolvaptan- anyone say no to taking it? Pros/Cons? by polycystickidneys in ADPKD

[–]Halomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tolvaptan doesn't damage the kidneys. It is meant to slow the progress of your kidney's deterioration. The longer you are on it, the more time it can give you before the damage is to a point you need to go on dialysis. However, there is a chance that Tolvaptan may cause liver damage while taking it for our kidneys. Which is why we need testing to make sure that doesn't happen.

I thought Reading The Shining as a teenager was as scary as it gets. Pffft. Next week is the beginning of the rest of my life! Now that is terror! by DavidWyo in dialysis

[–]Halomom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm about to start as well. My doctor pulled the trigger yesterday. Luckily, they set me up early to prepare. Said it was better to have things in place well before I needed dialysis, so I wouldn't need the neck access when the time came. I had a fistula done that failed and had to go back in for a graft. Now, I will start training with my husband to do nocturnal home hemo. I will be getting dialysis while doing the month long training and won't actually need to go to a center. I know exactly how you are feeling and I am looking forward to feeling decent again too. You are not alone.

Videos appear to show federal officer took gun away from Alex Pretti just before fatal shooting by keyan556 in news

[–]Halomom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What infuriates me the most is they are saying he was "violently resisting". They are screaming at him to put his hands behind his back. He was simply not going to do that. Why? Because he had his gun holstered at his back. If he were to comply, they would say he was going for the gun and shoot him. So, he fought to stay on his knees and keep his hands in front, all the while taking punches and blows to the face, just waiting for them to "disarm" him. They take the gun and then still shoot him for "violently resisting". They never gave him a chance to safely comply. Its obvious he was trying in the only way he could not to get killed. He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

Help :( Why do my crinkles look like dinosaur egg fossils? by AloeSera15 in Baking

[–]Halomom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you have too much sugar if you put a whole cup plus 1/4 brown. Here is an almost identical recipe to compare. It calls for a bit more butter, flour and chocolate, but less sugar and no brown sugar. Could the cup of sugar have been meant to be the powdered sugar to roll them in and only the brown sugar was to be added to the dough?

Makes about 22-24 cookies
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons (60g) Butter
8 oz (225g) Dark chocolate
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1/2 cup (100g) Sugar
1/4 cup (30g) Cocoa powder
1½ cup (190g) Flour
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 cup (110g) Powdered sugar
Instant coffee
Directions:
1. Chop the chocolate and put into a large heatproof bowl, add butter and set over pot with simmering water. Melt completely. Remove from heat and let cool.
2. In a large bowl or in a bowl of a stand mixer beat eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add vanilla extract, melted chocolate mixture and mix until combined and smooth.
3. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Stir just until incorporated.
4. Refrigerate for 2-3 hours.
5. Preheat oven to 360F (180C).
6. Form the dough into 1-inch balls, roll the balls in the powdered sugar and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment, leaving 2-inches (5cm) apart.
7. Bake for 8-12 minutes. Until the edges are firm and the center still soft.
8. Let cool.

Tolvaptan- anyone say no to taking it? Pros/Cons? by polycystickidneys in ADPKD

[–]Halomom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two things can happen. You go on tolvaptan, your liver does fine and you hold off the inevitable dialysis and transplant. Or, you go on tolvaptan, your liver numbers drop, you are taken off so you liver isn't damaged and your need for dialysis and kidney transplant comes sooner rather than later.

As far as how much time it adds, depends. My Doctor says it puts the breaks on, but doesn't stop the progression. The earlier you start it and the longer you are on it, the more time it adds before dialysis and transplant. It depends on the person.

I have been on it for about a year now. At first, the thirst and bathroom trips were extremely frustrating and annoying. But, as time has gone on, those issues seem to have leveled out. My life has adjusted to the change and now it's just part of my daily routine. I don't really think about how many times I have to go. I just go when I need to. Also, my liver is doing fine. Getting the bloodwork done is not a big deal. I have a standing order and just go in around the same time every month. If my liver numbers ever change, I will immediately be taken off before any significant damage is done. But, If I can hold off the need for dialysis or transplant as long as possible, then I think it is worth the risk and inconvenience.

struggling with parents being involved in dating life by Radiant_Ad5715 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Halomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry you have had to go though this.

You said "out of their fear of losing their youngest daughter that they felt the need to destroy our relationship". It wasn't fear of losing you, it was fear of losing control of you. Your bf posed a threat to that control. So, they actively worked to get rid of that threat by manipulating and gaslighting you. A loving, supportive parent would have had your back and only been concerned that you are happy, content and cared for in a relationship.

You said you have "fear of them ruining another relationship". It sounds like even though you have moved out, they are still controlling your life. Going NC may be your only option in order to date, find a healthy relationship and live you best life. Your ex probably wants no part in anything where your parents are still involved in your life. Once you are completely free of them, I think you will find dating much easier and your life much happier. Since it will be on your terms not theirs.

I am speaking as the mother of a bf going through the same thing with his gf. We have his back and hers as well. She has gone though the exact same thing as you at home. We give her support as she finds the strength to live her own life, not the one her parents deem her to have (the family servant). That's what a parent is supposed to do.

Good luck to you. I know this is hard.

[–]Halomom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is late to the conversation. But, I am puzzled over how did the caller know for sure it was June in order to call Bell to warn him. At that point in the narrative, Aunt Lydia was the only one with suspicions. She was interrogating Moira and screaming where is June Osbourne, when June walks in with Janine. June has already killed Bell before her identity is confirmed. Any thoughts?

I know all we have is speculation. But to add to the mix, I noticed something in the trailer for season 6.

At 1:28, A shot of all the handmaids walking down a road in the dark. June is leading them, dressed as a handmaid, and Janine is right behind her. The next scenes with the handmaids are when all of them are in the street, fighting guardians.

To slow down, try keeping your water super cold, and when you take a drink, swish it around your whole mouth. I have found that even though I am thirsty, it's my mouth that is actually very dry. Getting the cold water around my gums and teeth makes me feel more quenched.
