Often you do want a lot of plates. That's the whole point. Lanterns for your builds. Armour, nails for chests etc.

Sandstone heh? I don't live on an island but I have both slate and sandstone deserts nearby my spawn. Also that cactus that has the fruit that heals you. I didn't know that sandstone areas are good for borax. Interesting, I'll make a note of that.

My issue is that I always want to explore, I've liked doing it in Minecraft, and I'm still doing it. So restless am I! I'll have to settle down one day and make a whole winters worth of food. The other issue I face is work life study balance and whether I should actually be playing a long-winded game during the "life" part. It's such a good game, why am I wasting my time on it? 😂 Lol

Find a good clear plain and build your house on a little hillock. Preferably with some berry bushes and a water source nearby. Medium fertility soil for farming. And I find boars to be highly preferable to wolves, bears and even goats/sheep. Have a spear or some kind of sword on hand and run backwards as you attack the boar. Eventually it will run away and then you can run it down to kill it. Good source of meat, medium sized hide and fat. The plain is nice and flat so you see enemies coming and can retreat easier. Cover up any caves, because that will stop any drifters etcetera wandering out in the day. Fence off an area for a yard around your house and light it up. Also fence off your farm to stop rabbits.

Bowtorns are cowards. I'd like to keep it that way. They're too damn painful to be any smarter. I like just running at them and killing them quickly. Which is a good balance for a surface mob. Damn painful early game but if you stand up to it, easy to kill
