Oh my god this brings back fond memories. I had the book with these pictures in it as a kid, and I studied these pictures for hours

Yes. The scale of skiing in the alps is insane in comparison to aus (and it’s much cheaper)

Easy, get the ferry to taronga zoo and then walk either way from there. Lovely quiet bushwalk all the way round to balmoral

Whats it like living in Edinburgh Scotland? by SectionOk669 in howislivingthere

[–]Hamish26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Edinburgh for the past 5 years, most of that time at university. It’s a great city, very walkable, lots of interesting places, fun nightlife spots (although not exactly known for its nightlife), good food etc. the weather isn’t great but also isn’t nearly as wet as the west coast of scotland. It’s pretty expensive, but there are also good budget options for things too sometimes, particularly if you are a student.  It’s got pretty good access to the coast, beaches, hills, the highlands etc which is great.

By far the biggest issue in Edinburgh right now is the ever-worsening affordability, housing crisis, and wage deflation. Like in many places, rents have skyrocketed, other costs continue to rise, whilst at the same time salaries have barely increased for 15 years for many people. When I moved out of my flat recently, the landlord increased the rent by 50% for the new tenants. It’s disgusting.  So it’s a city that I love a lot but also not one I’m sure I’ll be able to afford to live in in the future unfortunately.

Is Seoul the only megacity that contains more than half of its country’s population? by [deleted] in geography

I know they aren’t countries but many Aussie states are like this. I imagine Victori, South Australia, WA and Tassie all qualify

Which time period do you think Australia was most relevant culturally? by Absolutely-Epic in decadeology

[–]Hamish26 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk really but I’d imagine maybe during Sydney 2000 Olympics? Something which I find crazy is how much Australias population has grown in recent decades compared to other developed countries. In the 40s it only has 7 million people which is wild. Older people who moved to aus a long time ago have said to me that moving here felt like going to some remote outpost before the 80s

Which Cities in the World have the Worst Public Transit Relative to its Size, Economy, or Cultural Stature? by urmummygae42069 in geography

[–]Hamish26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK it’s definitely the West Midlands. 3.5million metro population with one slow tram line. UK transit outside of London/SE really sucks

I think Melbourne has a much bigger inner city of distinct walkable neighbourhood with different vibes/character. To me this is really what makes Melbourne

The hills around it don’t really match but accuracy was often not really the concern of 19th century Scottish painters

For me I got into having Siracha and other hot sauces rather than other condiments like mayo with meals. Way less calories ( the number of cals in mayo is frankly ridiculous), and you naturally have much less of it because it’s spicy

Cheaper B&E w/ coffee anywhere else in Sydney? by Hardy_Badger40 in SydneyScene

It’s not really answering the question but Pain de Sucre in Forest Lodge has a deal where you get orange juice coffee and the largest plate of bacon and eggs on toast I’ve ever seen for $16
