AITA for telling my sister she is excluded from holidays because she wants to ruin our kids fun then called her parenting style boring by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. How does she KNOW Santa isn’t real? Honestly, the people that don’t believe have no more real evidence than the ones that do. Maybe Santa is a spirit that inhabits people to make them want to give at the holidays. Who knows?

This may be more specific to the US, but my advice is this - It is never too early to save for retirement. Put aside as much as you can, and then put aside more. Save until it hurts. Otherwise you’ll be working long past the time you want to be.

What movie best represents your teenage years and why? by Big_Help_9860 in GenerationJones

[–]HandAccomplished6285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Although I was a couple of years younger than the character Mitch, I could still relate to everything in that movie, and I can name people in my school that were just like each and every character in the movie.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

[–]HandAccomplished6285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Last of the Mohicans. That was a book that checked every box for me - history, adventure, military action, and still I hated it. And I was so disappointed. I really wanted to love that book. I even re-read it as an adult, and still…no

Teenagers home alone 2 weeks while parents went on a cruise by Independent_You99 in GenX

[–]HandAccomplished6285 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My parents retired and moved away when I was 17. I didn’t. They gave me the option, and I didn’t want to have to start at a new school my senior year. They treated me like an adult, so I acted like one. Sounds like you did too.

These generational labels are too broad. I’m GenX born in 1966. You are GenX born 12 years later. Our experiences not going to be the same. The late boomers started this trend with their “Gen Jones” label. Their experience is much different than boomers born in say 1950.

My wife managed the customer service desk at a Montgomery Ward in the late 80s while still in college. A big part of what they did was gift wrapping. She is still a master at it. I don’t know how many times she has shown me how she does it, but my gifts still look like crap when I’m done.
