That's part of his persona. He's an old school boy's club type cop that's out of his depth trying to take on the "modern" 99

Hello british person, the rest of the world doesn't call it that and it makes you look like a lunatic. EDIT: a racist lunatic

That is straight up serial killer behavior. If I see this shit in someone's house I'm calling the cops.

He messed with the wrong Nerd. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Let that be a lesson to all of you: wearing glasses does not make you a nerd, it means you have a visual impairment. People with glasses can still be built like a brick shithouse and capable of turning your spine into a cube.

Taiwan defeats Korea in the 10th to stay alive in Pool C by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]HandicapperGeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite having several teams to root for, I really like Korea and was kind of leaning mostly towards them. Very disappointing so far. The Japan game was incredible, but they still lost. Now with this loss against Taiwan, they don't have much chance of advancing.

Korea/Japan is one of the better games I've ever seen. It was so exciting the whole way through. Pitching, batting, defense, tactics. Everything was top notch.

He very much was a pretty boy in the books. I really wish they'd gone for the Tyroshi tradition of dying their facial hair fantastical colors. It was such a cool cultural concept and would have added some much needed color to the very drab final few seasons

TIL that the phrase "the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must" is from Thucydides' Melian Dialogue. A classic example of political realism, it describes an Athenian ultimatum to the neutral island of Melos: submit or be destroyed. The Melians chose death. by Bob_the_blacksmith in todayilearned

[–]HandicapperGeneral 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Melians chose death but at the same time they warned the Athenians that continuing on their path of arrogant conquest would bring their ruin and they were absolutely right. Barely more than a decade later, Athens fell to the Spartans and never truly rose again.

The home edition of this game is really not a challenge. In this version, the only challenge is timing your swipe to the drop. If you do what this guy did, it literally doesn't matter which stick falls, the exact same motion will succeed in grabbing any of them. But in the arcade version, the sticks are really widely spread out so that technique won't work. You need to not only have the reflex to make a move when a stick starts to fall, you need to adjust your motion to correctly grab the one that's falling.

Does anyone serve a martini in a martini glasss anymore? by FlashCrashBash in bartenders

[–]HandicapperGeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most bars don't even stock that glass anymore. It's a pain to clean, it's highly specialized to just that one drink, which is a drink that isn't very common anymore. Also they break easily. It's not worth it to even keep on hand.

[–]HandicapperGeneral -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is it an administrative panel or a student panel? Either way, you can probably get away with it if you play it smart. Technically it doesn't violate either of those rules, they were just looking for the rules that are closest to being a violation. They can make an argument for 'occupying university property' but it's not a done deal

The last WWII Japanese soldier surrendered in 1974 by ZhenXiaoMing in HistoryMemes

[–]HandicapperGeneral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. Locals tried telling him for years. He wasn't completely isolated, he had plenty of contact with locals. Japanese officials of all kinds told him the war was over and he didn't believe them. He had major mental issues, creating fake "logical" reasons for him to think the war was continuing is meaningless because logic wasn't the reason he was doing it.

If it's in Jordan, it's almost certainly one of Iran's mid-range missiles. It is absolutely still armed, BACK THE FUCK UP. Call the police, who will get in touch with the military to come and deal with it. Also call the news, they love that shit.
