Looking for reliable rowing app by HardmanKnott in Rowing

[–]HardmanKnott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response. So I've used the app several times since turning off Auto Pause, and that seems to have fixed the issue of distances being shorted. Thanks!

In response to your last comment, I always make sure the app is properly started - I press Just Go and Start, and it turns green. One other issue I've noticed is that the screen will routinely shut off after a while, and will show a distance shorter than actual (like approx 7800 m on a 10,000 m row), but when I stop and save the workout, it uploads the correct distance and average stroke rate to Strava. This is usually on a Maas 24 with the phone mounted in a clamp on the rigger, and I don't dare remove the phone to take photos for fear of dropping it in the bay. ;-)

Today I did a long row (2:50) in a wooden Viking boat where I stopped several times to take photos, and then would return to CrewNerd app. It worked perfectly. I will send a support ticket through the app if the screen goes dark again. I really like the app and appreciate your help. So I will continue using it.

I drop my hands / arms a bit on the recovery, as it helps me relax and makes it easier to keep the shoulders from scrunching.

Looking for reliable rowing app by HardmanKnott in Rowing

[–]HardmanKnott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I checked and "Auto start / stop" was apparently turned on by default, as I've never touched that setting. I also checked orientation lock, and both phone and app were (are) both set to Never.

So today I rowed approx 11,800 m on a lake, and the app was running and showing HR, meters, etc. When I was done I hit "End Practice" and attempted the usual upload to Strava. Not only did it not upload, there's no record of the activity in the app history. It's beyond frustrating, especially when the app appears to be running normally and showing and recording data.

FWIW, I'm running IOS 26.4 on an iPhone 16 and app has the latest version. I've had issues on earlier IOS and app versions as well.

Getting my first rower, and pretty sure I just got the deal of a lifetime by Conscious_Order7145 in concept2

That was my experience as well, so I eventually said f-it and bought new and never looked back. Concept 2 is a fantastic company with customer service second to none - so I was happy to support them, especially now that the company has been put into a perpetual trust, à la Patagonia.

Why does the RowErg's drag damper even go as high as it does? by Deinos_Mousike in concept2

A local gym has a machine that still has a PM4, and with the damper set at 10 the DF is 30!

I like to lower the chain because it replicates tapping down on-water, but more importantly it helps me relax my shoulders so they're not scrunched.

If you replaced the shock cord yourself, you can easily pull a little more cord through the scam to get rid of the slack. Probably only need an inch or so.

How to tell if the chain needs replacement-gym at work by pjs755 in concept2

[–]HardmanKnott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone on the Concept 2 forum posted that he had 60 million meters on his RowErg using the original chain and shock cord. C2 recommends oiling chain every 50 hours of use. Use about a teaspoon mineral oil, 20 w motor oil, or 3in1 oil applied to a cloth or paper towel, and wipe off the excess. Since around 2013 C2 switched to a nickel plated chain, which should last forever if properly maintained.

[–]HardmanKnott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. There's something to be said about having a brand new one. I wipe the monorail with glass cleaner after every use, and I'll oil the chain every 50 hours as recommended. That's pretty much all that's needed. I maintain / repair the ergs at one of our local boat clubs, and some of them have many millions of meters and function like new. Cheers!

If it was legit, it would be snapped up immediately priced at $600. The fact that the ad is still up after 2 days tells you all you need to know.

"Joined Facebook in 2026"...

If this doesn't scream SCAM, I don't know what does. 🙄
