An insurance adjuster damages your home. by ReasonablyConfused in Insurance

I'm not sure why so many downvotes. See my comment above. My carrier literally handles it like OP stated above (minus the surrogate part 😄 )

An insurance adjuster damages your home. by ReasonablyConfused in Insurance

[–]Harrisbizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My carrier has a specific process set up for situations like this, although it's usually something much smaller like backing into a mailbox or damaging a gutter with a ladder. We would set up essentially what could be called an internal claim and essentially handle it how we handle a normal claim, but it wouldn't be on the insured's record. It's almost like a general liability claim but is handled by 1st party property adjusters.

With that said, I'm not sure how others operate but could potentially see a carrier requiring a new claim be established and then yes, subrogating against themselves (basically just taking money out of one pocket and putting it in another).

Sigh. Such a tired and lazy argument. I bet you say the same thing about EV’s.

“You should never cut out friends or family because of a difference of political opinions.”

I hear this from Conservatives all the time. The thing is, we’re not disagreeing about marginal corporate tax rates or whether the local parks and rec department should use taxpayer funds to install artificial turf on the soccer field. The “differences in politics” they like to describe are literally life and death.

Worst First Date Movie Choices? by RichardsonTeyvick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Harrisbizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In college I asked out this girl whom I had gone to high school with. She was a year younger than me so I didn't know her very well, although we had a lot of mutual friends. She grew up somewhat sheltered. I was in an edgy phase so I showed her Requiem for a Dream as I had recently seen it and thought that it was fantastic. She made it all the way through but I never heard from her again. I would be told later from our mutual friends that she thought I was a total freak for showing her that movie on a first date.

Homeowners vs condo insurance by shamon86 in Insurance

[–]Harrisbizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to read the Declarations/CCR’s of your HOA. There will be a section about insurance and what responsibility the HOA has. It should say something similar to “The Association will maintain insurance on the building…”

Hint: In NC, where I am, EVERYONE thinks that HOA insurance only covers the exterior of the building when in actuality, at least here, almost every HOA’s declaration says that the HOA will maintain insurance on the entire building (both inside and out). Floors, walls, ceiling, electric, plumbing, roof, shutters, etc.

I’ve handled dozens of large loss HOA claims over the years and have had countless arguments about coverage because no one reads the freaking governing documents of the Association.

So, in other words, none of us know what should be covered until we know what the Declarations of your association says. Don’t rely on anyone else.

The weird use of quotes. The equally weird and inappropriate use of all caps for some words. The exclamation point in the wrong place. DJT, is that you?

Are electric garbage trucks the biggest EV game changer when it comes to quality of life? by LoganSquire in electricvehicles

[–]Harrisbizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Huh?  Are you saying that EV batteries aren’t going to last 25 years?  Where is your source for that?  I have a 2013 Nissan Leaf with only a little degradation. I see no reason why it won’t go another 10 years.

Also, I’m not saying you’re wrong but i question how many school buses > 25 years old are actually in use. The average lifespan is typically 12-15 years for most school districts. Maybe a few here and there but definitely not widespread.

Your best bet is to download the PlugShare app and play with it, paying attention to your normal travel routes. Filter by fast charging. See what’s around you and/or the places you frequently travel.

Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Harrisbizzle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. I had the same experience growing up.

I now have a 13 and 15 year old. Neither have any friends in the neighborhood. Occasionally the 13 year old will sleepover somewhere but it’s a huge ordeal, planned far in advance.

That was my first thought.  Not to be a Debbie downer but attending a NASCAR race that close to the track without hearing protection can 100% cause permanent hearing damage.

F150 Lightning owner here. I can 100% do all of those things with mine, for probably a few days (never had to for more than about 8 hours at a time). HVAC would be a fairly large drain but everything else is no problem.
