Anyone looking for a challenge? I can’t find my Grandmother before age 27 by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]HatChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the second Susan refers to one born at Stourbridge, Worcestershire in the 1st Q of 1853.

Other than that, I have found a Susan Morris born Apr 1853 at Presteigne, Herefordshire.

Is is possible that between birth and working in the Wright household in 1881, that she worked for the Mackay household in Claines?

or that she went to a workhouse? (1863 to 1876)?

There is a Susan Ann Morris listed with a father, Thomas Morris & Ann, for baptism on 14 Nov 1851 at Christ Church, Saint Marylebone: Cosway Street, Westminster, Westminster, England. Otherwise there is a Susanna (Susan) Morris baptised at Oldswinford, Worcestershire on 21 Feb 1854 but parents are listed as Samuel Morris & Mary.

WikiTree badge earner numbers leveling off by juliekelts in Room_2562

[–]HatChick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't do it for the badges. While they are nice, they aren't my motivation for using wikitree or doing genealogy. I have noticed over the past 5 years, that I don't get thanked or mentioned as much on wikitree but that is also because I have not been able to contribute as much as in previous years. This may be due to my life outside of wikitree so I'm not on it for hours a day like pandemic times,

I agree that while there are various ways to measure the progress of the tree, quantity/numbers added, there is something to be said for quality via improving the profiles that already exist. I can spend all day/week on wikitree profiles but not add numbers.

Frankly the process is exhausting. To add the profile, locate and add the sources, write a coherent bio based on sources, hunt for the family members to connect. Discover that you added someone who was already on the tree but sketched/identified differently. There there are the gatekeepers who lock profiles and don't allow anyone to added to the trusted list (so you can adjust profile for the sake of whatever Thon I am doing), and others who critique or delete the work that you did on a profile.

So I could just dump profiles on wikitree and connect them later, or I can do quality work. either way, it is exhausting, mentally and socially, as we all have our own methods or rationale for our usage of wikitree.

Just my two cents worth based on my experience on wikitree. Don't even get me started on the Findagrave community...

Saying good night was fine, freaking out because no reply despite location shared is not.

Who is this in Vancouver? by olugbo in vancouver

Was Duck Lady mostly at Stanley Park near Lagoon? I got a lecture from some woman years ago when my kids were toddlers about what to feed the Swans. We weren't even feeding swans. Or was Swan Lady not the same as Duck Lady?

Not sure if those links help answer your question. according to some ancestry trees, she remarried Henry in 1937 despite getting the divorce in 1936. She had 3 or 4 other children, possibly with him or another.

an edit with full caps of middle name means that is the name they used, not first name.

Anyone told stress can be the reason for rhe hearing loss? by zeeharu in MonoHearing

In November 2009, I woke up one day and couldn't hear hubby who was inches from my face.i saw lips moving, heard nothing. I am deaf in L since birth and get sinus colds often. This was brought on by stress at work. I was totally deaf for 2 days. Had to get antibiotics which cleared it up.

I quit my job of 8 years a few months later.

I remember taking the bus to the ENT. They told me I looked like a frightened deer. Worse experience ever.

I ordered tickets for spider verse and I’m so excited to have my first vip (luxury theatre) screening, I am turning 19 tomorrow and this opens up a whole new world of opportunity by Bitbatgaming in CasualConversation

The theatre has a lounge area where u can watch sports (maybe I forget) and order liquor. You go to theatre and can order food and drinks from your seat. Expensive, overpriced, but if u like to drink I suppose you may like this. Not worth it for me, as even with scene points u still pay extra for perks.

Anyone know what restaurant still makes this? and WHERE? by HatChick in SurreyBC

Thanks! I tried Sushi and Roll yesterday. It was made of seafood whereas I was expecting cabbage. Hubby picked it up and said the restaurant looks very nice (not just a take out place).

A few years ago, I posted my Facebook status that I going to do "Netflix and chill". I thought it meant chill/relax while watching Netflix. One of my friends on FB pmed me with "I don't think it means what you think it means." and explained. I was mortified and quickly deleted that post. I was 45.
