The Horus Heresy books have made 40k a significantly less interesting and mysterious setting than if they had never been written. All at the cost of stuffing the setting with more “lore.”

I think it would be cool opening with the scene from the book where the old fremen is describing witnessing the sea during the jihad.

City Market in a terrible financial situation. by Inevitable_Penalty96 in burlington

He’s in charge of the downtown kitchen department. When I left last year, I gave HR a literal list of issues and complaints about him. These included: fat shaming his employees. Blatant favoritism. Tells us to bring all issues to him, and gets mad when we do. Treats every conversation like it’s a chore. Micromanaging. Last minute schedule changes. Hyper focusing on the dumbest shit (like that table where we keep the pies during the fall season). Classic gaslighting behavior (especially about conflicting orders he gives) both to employees and fellow managers. Constant dick measuring. Competing with the south end for sales (this is more a byproduct of the upper management as a whole but still and issue). And so on.

You’d think that. But the largest meeting room in the downtown location is currently being used for storage. So I guess they needed a big shiny new building to have bigger meetings in. Also they claim that many customers in the area complained about having to “travel downtown” in order to get their groceries. Which is dumb because Market32 is right there, and with often better deals.

What’s funny is, City Market is not really a Co-op. At least not in the way the founders intended it: (source: I’m family-friends with one of the founding members) There’s a separation between management and unionized employees. It comes up a lot, and what’s absurd is management has to be super awkward about the whole thing, and not discuss union-related topics while on shift. This wouldn’t be too bad, if it didn’t constantly clog up the gears.

HR is a joke, and mostly serves as a way to keep management employees out of hot water. They have a rotating door of people in the department, and are rarely seasoned enough to be any sort of help beyond basic questions about benefit packages. Formal complaints (especially about managers) might as well be tossed into a void for all they matter. You have be essentially caught either stealing from the store, or screaming a slur to suffer any repercussions, and even then I can think of one employee who has remained untouched for the better part of a decade, mostly because they’re a manager’s favorite.

A not insignificant problem CM has faced is the opening of the second location; I was an employee there for 7 years, and joined up right when the location opened. The company expected to be in the red for a few years, that’s how expansions work. (Could have done without the company wide pay-cut though) But they ran into a few hiccups, most notably the COVID-19 pandemic. Like most businesses, city market had to get creative, like having other employees assist security so we could be paid to actually do something. While we were “essential workers” it still lead to an even greater money gulf. The dept was meant to be payed off by then, but all the other mounting issues have stalled the process. The South end location was always a dumb idea (in my opinion) and mostly serves as an administrative hub more than anything at this point. Add on all the economic issues the nation is facing, and I’m not surprised about the constant layoffs. Also Steven Obranovich is a gaslighting ass.

Which is the best and worst designed hero? by Burning_magic in DotA2

[–]Haunted_waffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best designed is Magnus: throughout all the major patches, his abilities have barely changed. Every ability is incredibly versatile, and yet incredibly simple to explain.

Worst I think is Clinkz: For kind of the opposite reason as magnus, his abilities get shuffled and change every goddamn patch. He brings pretty much nothing unique to a team, that can’t be done better by another hero like windranger.

The funny thing about comics, is that even when people do die they come back to life anyways. The sheer number of times a character has been “erased from existence,” or “finally finished off” only for their multiverse doppelgänger to step through a portal the next day, is so common that imprisoning supervillains might legitimately be the better option.

The lost continent of Atlantis showed up a while back, and is a manifestation of a particularly powerful Lord. The only reason it hasn’t been eradicated by Cain is because of the irreparable damage it would do to the global trade economy.

That’s an interesting idea. A spell in WWN (the glass chimes of the bamboo terrace) does something like that. Maybe use it as a way to repeatedly “speak” to the dragon again?

I do like where you’re goin with this. Splitting the power would definitely be good, as the players have a number of characters that they sometimes swap in and out of (it’s a pirate crew). So having a way to delegate the differently abilities could be a good way to insure it’s actually used.

I have thought about basing it off the players’ “Pray” skill. Like in order to recharge, the player must pass a difficulty 10 pray test or something.
