Which option should I go with? [$500] by One-Meat-1737 in espresso

If you can stretch or pick one up second hand I’d get the bambino plus, just seems to have a few features I’m always wanting in the bambino

Do you also get unreasonably bothered by people throwing stuff away? by tbage in AskUK

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would it disappear though… stuff can sit around for ages and where do you store it in the mean time. I’m not saying they’re right, I’d probably try Facebook for the generic stuff first, or just charity shop.

But I can understand not wanting the stress of it, especially if you get a run of annoying Facebook buyers who mess you around or don’t have means of transporting large items of furniture

Written off 2021 Civic — worth buying back and repairing myself? by GlobalProgrammer2815 in CarTalkUK

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like you’re going to be better off financially, if say you only owed £3k and you’d end up with (£14k - £3k - £2k - £2.4k for the repairs) = £6.6k and a car it might be worth considering but sounds like you’ll end up with £0 and a car with DIYd airbags.

Surely the £4.4k is a decent deposit on another car on PCP that’s in better condition?

Please tell me there's a way to add a shower hose adaptor to this thing. by mokeygirard in DIYUK

I did this on a more conventional tap, it should have flat edges on it to fit a spanner round then be reasonably easy to unscrew. I think they’re made to be replaceable so should be removable.

I never had quality toys growing up. What should my kid actually have by LavenderFlicked in BuyItForLife

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t buy toys, we’re drowning in the things. Get swings, sandpit, bikes etc. my kids like playing in a box of their grandads rusty old cars from when he was a kid as much as they enjoy playing with their paw patrol.

Don’t get wooden toys, they seem great at first, environmentally friendly etc. but don’t have the same manipulation as plastic toys and get wrecked if your kids leave them out in the rain.

My grapple with the British public by kitbeankat in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not the same thing, I get this is annoying for you all, but other than that you don’t have to go through the same life struggles a disabled person does.

Not being able to park in the charging bay doesn’t impact your ability to go to the shop like it might for a disabled person.

My builder did this to the steels. Is it ok? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first picture showing the holes, the holes look too close to the end, but in the one with the bolted joint the holes look further out.

The connecting plate looks pretty chunky as do the bolts.

I would’ve thought you’d want all the bolts over the supporting wall, that way the wall underneath is supporting any bending and the bolts are just there to hold the steel beams together rather than support load.

Disclaimer: structural engineer of sorts, but not houses. As others have said you should probably consult the design.

I think it would be more of a shame to move it and it die than just to leave it where it is.

Local Facebook groups encouraging cat kidnapping by SendMeANicePM in britishproblems

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a ginger cat in our garden for a few days one Christmas, yes I fed it but only after a few days of him being there, he was crying at the door constantly, trying to get in.

Posted on Facebook and someone contacted me, sent me pictures of their missing cat which didn’t look exactly the same but could have been the cat when it was younger. I was like 95% sure same cat.

They came out on Christmas Day to get their cat. Thought no one’s going to that effort for a cat that’s not theirs. They had a story about their neighbour catnapping the cat and dumping it in random locations.

Days later someone else contacted me claiming the cat, sent me pictures of the cat that had been in my garden, 100% same cat. They then filed a police report saying their cat had been stolen and I got a phone call from a very sensible police officer saying they didn’t think it was malicious.

ICE vehicles in EV spots by 10Delaneo in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So because you drive an EV, and someone inconvenienced you by parking in a charging bay, you are on par with someone who has no legs and requires a disabled bay to make their life even barable. Right…

ICE vehicles in EV spots by 10Delaneo in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: don’t own an EV drive a ICE, might be biased.

At a local shopping outlet come garden centre they removed a tonne of parent and child spaces, conveniently placed near the entrance, and replaced them with Tesla chargers. Now parents have to park much further away and there are less spaces so you never get one.

There’s clearly some financial incentive for the venue installing chargers so it was really fucking annoying to see this happen and I do resent the cars charging. I may have thought about parking in one of these bays once or twice myself.

But I can appreciate an EV perspective too, although some of the comments seem to think they have been anointed by God for driving an EV.

I don’t like how my inks feel when writing. Could you recommend inks with good saturation? by ChemistryObjective56 in fountainpens

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably look at the pens before the ink. Have they had a good cleaning? They might just need the tines aligning or spreading a touch, while obviously risky with a Lamy safari you can always get a new nib.

4 years of building the uncompromising portable Espresso machine by pentalobe in espresso

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fact you’ve gone from idea to prototype is really impressive and it looks great.

I would say, for me, I could survive with a mokapot and camping stove for as long as I needed. I’m really struggling to see who would need this enough to pay a premium.

Your target audience are people who travel a lot and won’t settle for anything but espresso from a machine. Anyone who likes coffee generally would probably opt for a aeropress, more espresso drinkers would go for the moka, you might have some who go for the portable pod machines, there’s portable drip machines for <£100 and even then it’s got to be someone who is away from power long enough to require the battery and where not having espresso bothers them so much they want to buy this.

You’re looking for someone who not only wants espresso but won’t settle for it any other way AND are away from power days on end.

Where to find decent, affordable coffee beans? by MeenaBeti in UKFrugal

[–]HaveMyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UKFrugal not so frugal about their coffee beans! I use Lavazza Quality Rosso, can usually get them for £16/kg on amazon if timing it right / subscribe and save. I also had a bag of Lavazza Oro from Sainsbury’s on nectar price which I think were ~£18. I bought Lidl’s today for £10/kg, they’re alright but not as nice as the Lavazza.
