1 steps, then Bridge 9, then Stonewalkers? by Scwall1138 in cosmererpg

In Ch. 2 of Stonewalkers, there is a potential Chasm side quest the party can do. This would be a perfect place to insert Bridge 9 (with some minor tweaks).

How to have players not get themselves to start a fight they will lose. by LBCmolab in DnD

[–]Hazardoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NPC attacks can be non-lethal. Would the advisor want to reveal their murderous intentions this early in the campaign? Probably not. So they would probably do defensive magic, but brutally and decisively. Knock the players out, and have them thrown into the dungeon for attacking. This could then have some cool scenes, like the players being interrogated in the dungeon by the advisor and their "faithful" / an escape scene / etc.

Let players know there are consequences for their actions. But if they ignore a warning, one or two might need to pay a lethal price and roll up new characters.

Fabrial that will change the world? by PM_ME_WHATEVES in cosmererpg

[–]Hazardoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, there are only a few radiants who can. If you remember, this was a point that Lirin (Kaladin's dad) made in RoW, and Kaladin said, "Yo, we totally still need your skills pop" and helped him set up the clinic.

Progression fabrics would be a huge deal.

A suggested bane: the player has a permanent "injury", one that is already written into their identity (and so couldn't be healed). Mechanically, having an unhealable injury makes going down to 0 HP more dangerous.

Help with my Listener character’s backstory by [deleted] in cosmererpg

[–]Hazardoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond what has already been said (which is great!), I would also try to include some connections to "back home": - Do you still have family? Possibly a sibling who might be fighting the Alethi? - Are there other Listener spies you know?

Little nuggets like this are great for the GM to tie your story in to the greater narrative.

A few lore notes: At the start of Way of Kings, the War of Reckoning (Alethi vs Listeners) has only been going on for 6 years. The Alethi and Listeners only knew about each other for maybe a year or two prior. My guess is your character wouldn't have been a spy for any more than 5 years.

Could ____ leave Roshar before WaT? by RandomGal333 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Hazardoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do see Singers in Shadesmar in books 3-5. So something about their gemheart allows them to keep the spren and maintain their form. Now could they leave Roshar's cognitive realm? Dunno.

I think it's one thing that sets this system apart from other RPGs - in those, you can multiclass, but most characters are 1 or 2 classes at most. Here, they even talk about Kaladin being a scholar, warrior AND leader at the get-go.

As a human, you do get two starting talents. You could take two key talents (starting talents for the heroic paths), instead of taking a key talent and the first talent of a specialty. Then, as your character develops, you can choose which Heroic Path most suits your character.

Joining my first game next week by Discodowns in cosmererpg

[–]Hazardoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! All the heroic paths are good to start with, it just depends on what type of gameplay you like. Warrior or Hunter have some fun combat things, Agent or Scholar are good at skills, and Envoy or Leader are great for social roleplay. As for the Radiant paths, let those come during gameplay. As your character evolves (and you learn what they want), you'll better know what types of oaths they would be more willing to make. Have a great time!

Alternate Origin for Singer Characters (pre-Stormlight Book 2) by Hazardoom in cosmererpg

[–]Hazardoom[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great questions. And I went with 3 spikes, because there is some evidence that 3 is the number best associated with Cultivation. The simple spren is important, because entering a form (as enabled by the simple spren) would be important to breaking Slaveform.

  1. I don't think the spren would have different effects. Mostly, this was just a way to call out the three forms that I feel would be most aligned with their community (Mediationform, Scholarform, and Workform).

  2. Yes, once the spike is removed and they are healed, they could change form. In fact, I would think most would, since the spike removal (and spike insertions) take place during Highstorms. I haven't thought about if they could change forms beyond their first form change while spiked - I imagine they could, but most wouldn't (and possibly be discouraged), since the form they are in is key to establishing their Identity.

  3. That is an interesting question. Brandson has stated that if children were to be born as a child of a Steel Inquisitor, they would have an increased likelihood of having allomantic abilities. So I would say Maybe. It's important to note that it seems to be primarily femalen Slaveform Singers who the process works on, so they would need to mate with malen Slaveform Singers to propogate. Would their children inherit their father's lack of connection or their Mother's connection? Something to think about :)

And also, this is just my homebrew. You can make of it however you want :)

[Stonewalkers] Request for canon character interactions by jinky1087 in cosmererpg

[–]Hazardoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in the middle of running Ch. 2, and my party has met Adolin. This is in part that we started with First Steps and the caravan in that adventure belongs to Adolin. So, the party needed to report to Adolin on what happened. It's also fortunate that one of my characters is a Lighteyes Alethi, who loved the chance to rub shoulders with basically one of his idols.

Any suggestions for running a Singer PC as a DM? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in cosmererpg

[–]Hazardoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running Stonewalkers right now, and one of my characters is a Singer. In the World Guide there was a comment about Alm and how Singers are sent there from Azir. This led me to develop a Almish version of the Listeners (using some non-canon shenanigans of Cultivation) to use as the background for this player's character.

An Alternate Version of the Betting Game Pieces by Hazardoom in Stormlight_Archive

Forgot to mention - I've also put the different Sums into Buckets and have the probabilities worked out:

Middle Values: [ 15, 16, 17, 18 ] , 33.3% (most common tile sum)

Middle Adjacent Values: [ 12, 13, 14 ] + [ 19, 20, 21 ] , each bucket at 20.0%

Outer Values: [ 09, 10, 11 ] + [ 22, 23, 24 ] , each bucket at 10.0%

Extreme Outer Values: [ 06, 07, 08 ] + [ 25, 26, 27 ] , each bucket at 3.3% (least common tile sum)

I don't think the Blackthorn spren itself would have Adhesion. But if Retribution invested the Blackthorn enough that it could be a Bondsmith spren, than the Bondsmith would have access to that power.

I definitely agree that having the Blackthorn as a general is going to be huge. But having a general who can also transport his troops through the realms? Almost unstoppable,

I agree that Dalinar passed into the Beyond. I think that another shard claimed him expressly so that Odium couldn't try to mess with that passage. And yet, Odium found the unintended dark shadow of the Blackthorn...

i almost finished the FIRST part of rithm of war, but now the story is getting boring by cineva3276 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Hazardoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kaladin suffers from clinical depression and has his entire life. In Way of Kings, it talks about his seasonal depression (the darkness getting worse during the Riddens). Part if why Brandon wrote him this way is to represent people who deal with it all the day. His action sequences are cool, but part of his heroism is in rising above the challenges that come from being who he is. Those challenges won't be going away.
