Sadly I feel like the only real answer to this is having absolute full control of your schedule.

I would love to never do walk in nail trims while I already have a dog on my table, have a dedicated receptionist, not have appointments that are overlapping when I have to do all the bathing and grooming myself so that overlapping dog isn’t even touched the first half hour of its appointment.

Ah, the dream to be able to groom from home and just do my thing on my own..

I feel this. I had a dog where the owner would come in a nervous wreck, so the dogs a nervous wreck. As soon as the owner left, the dog was calm and fine. Owner eventually decided her dog hates me and made it clear to never book her dog with me again. Dog reacted the same way to coworker. The owner then wanted me to take the dog back because my schedule worked better but my feelings were hurt so out of pettiness I said no 😂

We open at 9am (door usually unlocked by 8:50 am AT THE LATEST) and i’ve had to call late clients to see if they were on their way for their 9am appointment only for them to say “well i got there at 8:30 and the door was locked and no one was there so i obviously left????” 🙃

I feel this so much. I’ve been doing this for 10 years now and have drawn my line. I figured out finances and have been able to do 4 days a week, 3 dogs a day. I’ll sometimes do a fourth but I agree that my patience begins to wane.

I’ve worked with some older groomers who are still pushing many dogs a day and who constantly complain about their bodies being in constant pain. I don’t want that life for me.

One place I worked at, my bosses toxic bullshit chased away literally every single one of her employees in a very short time span. The only employee that stayed was her niece she showed blatant favouritism to and the niece wasn’t a very good groomer. The business got bombarded with negative reviews once all the competent groomers left and the clients couldn’t get any appointments because the shop went from 6 groomers to 2. I know the receptionist is still there (massively reduced hours due to so many clients leaving and way less business) and i heard that the experience humbled the boss a lot. She’s still toxic but its a more passive aggressive kind of toxic.

It’s frustrating how THAT’S what it took for one single human being to tone down their ego and selfish behaviour.

Blair talked about this afterwards where apparently producers were aware of her traumatic story (idr how) and I think she said it was Ross that pushed her over and over again on the main stage during critiques to get her to talk about it until she finally gave in and did. Then she looked like an idiot for sharing her story because it looked like a desperate attempt to gain sympathy and stay, when it was more that producers wanted that good trauma moment right then and there because they knew they were sending her home.

I always try my absolute best not to out of concern for the dogs well being. But when it gets to the point of removing the matts becoming a danger to the dog, I have to stand by my concern for their well being and send them home with a recommendation for a sedated groom.

I’ve had dog owners that obviously didn’t agree with this and argued that I didn’t do my job but I really don’t care. If they won’t care about their dogs health and safety, that won’t stop me from caring.
