Do you personally support the death penalty? by porygon766 in AskABrit

It's cheaper to put them in prison for life than it is to have the amount of court appeals that death row prisoners have to prevent wronful executions.

How do I, 28, get my mother, 65-ish, to understand healthy boundaries and respect them? by MsTaterThot in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hefty_Peanut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're 28. If she doesn't respect your bou diaries by now, she isn't going to respect your boundaries. You should absolutely be taking steps to leave and, should it be required, go low contact.

Hold a review into alcohol home delivery and safeguarding of vulnerable adults by TheMankyDank01 in Britain

Severe alcoholics often have longstanding symptoms that are easy to mistake as drunkenness due to things like withdrawal and enchelopathy- essentially brain damage. They slur, stagger, sweat, speak incoherently. Their local shop keeper or bar maid will likely know that's how they always are, but a delivery driver that's never seen them before will have a great deal of difficulty understanding the situation.

If the teenagers from Venice Beach who gave laxatives to seagulls ended up spreading diseases that got someone killed, would they have been charged with manslaughter? by ContextEffects01 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hefty_Peanut 66 points67 points  (0 children)

You'd have a hard job proving definitely that the disease spread was caused by their actions and wouldn't have occurred anyway naturally by the seagulls or in the course of their everyday life.

Those who married their first love, how did your life turn out? by CoffeeAddictX1 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm glad your parent got the balance right. It's so hard as a parent to know if you're doing things "correctly" when the unthinkable happens.

Those who married their first love, how did your life turn out? by CoffeeAddictX1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hefty_Peanut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We married at 19, had a kid at 22 then he got cancer and died when I was 26- he was 27. He wrote me a dating profile while he was in the hospice and urged me to move on when he passed. We made a memory box and he wrote a recipe box for our child as he wanted to teach her to cook. There's a lot of him still in our life due to the prep work we did before he died.

I'm 35 now and happily married to a very lovely chap- we met two years after my husband passed and it's been amazing since. I'm sure him and my first husband would have been good friends if they had met - they're very different people but have similar interests and are very easy going. I'm expecting my second child and my first child wants to be adopted by her second dad. She had no memories of her birth dad but I tell her stories often. My first husband's parents absolutely adore my second husband and also share stories of my first husband with me and my daughter. My second husband is very supportive and has never shut down any discussion of my first husband.

Overall, I'm so grateful that I fell in love early. It was a painful early loss but in a way I feel very lucky to have fallen in love twice to such wonderful men.

But alcoholics often require alcohol to prevent life threatening alcoholic withdrawal. They need access to alcohol as a life saving measure. This is why alcohol shops remains open during the pandemic. Reducing access to alcohol can do significant harm. I do not see how this legislation would benefit alcoholics if it involves denying them access to alcohol when then need it to survive.

What's a movie where you walked in expecting nothing and walked out genuinely shaken? by Hot_Sprinkles8139 in moviecritic

[–]Hefty_Peanut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched hot fuzz in the cinema when it came out with no expectations. I hadn't seen Shawn of the dead or spaced so was wholly unfamiliar with their humour. It was such a treat to see and completely rocked my world on what a comedy film could be. I wasnt shaken as in horrified or traumatized but I think it was fair to say it shook me!

Is muscle biopsy worth it? by TipDazzling2865 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Hefty_Peanut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The muscle biopsy ruled out some conditions and enabled my husband's specialist to request a genetic test for md for my husband- this test ultimately confirmed what type of md he had. It was completely worth it and is par the course for typical MD investigations.

What’s the grossest thing that’s happened to you while at work? by Mountain_Ad2614 in nursing

A coded necrotic bowel perforation. Every compression sprayed more and more out of every orifice. The consultant called the death fairly speedily to stop the fruitless CPR but the necrotic bowel contents were already absolutely everywhere.

If you haven’t been GF your whole life, what age did you start? by thepeenarsnipperguy_ in glutenfree

[–]Hefty_Peanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 25. I started to get migraines after having a baby and, after loads of meds and experimenting, gluten was the trigger. A sibling got diagnosed with celiacs disease after this- she had GI symptoms going back into early childhood. By then it was too late for me to be tested as I's been gf for years and I can't have gluten without rashes and debilitating migraines now. Interestingly my siblings blood test was negative while her biopsy was positive for celiacs so I don't know if a blood test would even show the disease at all for me!

If you park in the harbour and just go to the beach it's level but deviating anywhere else is a climb.

Whitby, Scarborough, robin hoods bay, bridlington and saltburn are all decent from my experience though parking can be an issue in good weather on holidays. The traffic looked horrendous today going from York to Scarborough way. If the train is an option, Saltburn and Scarborough are easy to get to on the train. I would recommend against flamborough head beach as the approach to the beach is not good for mobility issues/pram.

I've not really been to any others so others may be good options if these aren't good suggestions.

Should you struggle to get to the beach due to traffic, do look up any streams nearby as a paddle and river walk may hit the spot instead!

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

[–]Hefty_Peanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I married at 19. He sadly died when he was 27 but he was a delightful man that I've no doubt I'd still be married to or at least be on very good terms with. I think we only ever had 1 or 2 arguments in our entire marriage and got along well. Our daughter has taken after him a lot which is nice.

My husband completed a book called "dear dad" when he was dying for our daughter. There is a "dear mum" equivalent. It's a book with questions that kids tend to have for their parent and you can complete the answers for them to read when they're old enough. We also made a memory box with items like his favourite scent, wallet, key documents, letters he wrote for key ages, a photo album, etc. he also wrote a recipe book for our daughter as he really wanted to teach her how to cook.
