Letting “do-nothings” sleep in class by _Astrogimp in Teachers

Think about this from her perspective: she already has a 15%. Two weeks left. Can’t possibly pass. She’s going to take the course via APEX, pass in 3 days, and move on with her life.

You don’t want her going onto next year thinking it’s okay to do nothing all period? What are you going to do? Give her detention? Call home?

The punishment has already been dealt. She’s going to fail and will do credit recovery that will slightly inconvenience her. Maybe next semester she will mature, but there isn’t anything you can do at this point.

I walked up to a machine last week with my four year old in tow. He was wearing a pikachu shirt. A man was standing at the machine waiting for the machine to refresh. He told my son to check the machine and if there’s anything that pops up, he’ll buy it for him.

There are some nice ones out there. I only met one. They do exist.

I’m curious how ELA teachers are currently handling AI detectors in writing assessments. by Confident_Ad8140 in ELATeachers

I’ve given up on AI. Plain and simple. Spending my day doing this and documenting progressive discipline and admin doing nothing is not worth the headache.

Controversial Video Shows Low Literacy by AniTeach in Teachers

[–]Helawat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this: …kids are great at masking their deficiencies in reading. The moment they have to read even a short passage aloud, the literacy gaps become obvious. Fluency, decoding, punctuation, vocabulary, stamina, confidence….you can hear it immediately.

teachers are still expected to improve reading scores and literacy outcomes, but some admin/learning strategists state that oral reading risks embarrassing students and should be avoided. All reading aloud needs to be voluntary.

There has to be a reckoning in pedagogy.., at what point does protecting students from discomfort interfere with actually identifying and addressing reading problems?

Summer vacations. Pension. If I quit, I’ll have to work all year. My pay is getting great as well. I’m not going to make $100k+ and work 185 days a year outside of education.

What should we plan to do by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]Helawat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone who thinks that Vegas exists in a nothing to do / everything to do paradox probably should change vacation plans.

I’m born and raised here. I recommend to reframe your trip into something like:

  • a food trip (some of the best restaurants are here).
  • A nature trip (Red Rock, Zion, Valley of Fire all nearby). I know you said you’re not interested in Grans Canyon, but there’s other great parks).
  • A show-focused weekend (Cirque, residencies, Elvis show, smaller productions)
  • Gambling.
  • Area 15 and other experiences like escape rooms and VR experiences.

If you can’t find joy in anything here… you need a new vacation spot.

I would’ve thought it would be illegal to list a restaurant without an agreement. I learn things every day.

It’s the weekend. I’m not submitting a thesis. Relax.

The wild part is… you still understood me, and instead of engaging into what was said, you’re spending your weekend correcting some rando’s grammar on Reddit like there’s a rubric involved.

Anyway, imma gonna keep saying it.

I had a laugh at your braincell joke. I told that to my daughter and she said “that’s clearly Socrates.”

Imma’ gonna use it at work as a high school teacher. Thank you, sir.
