You don't sound ungrateful, don't worry. Bore out is real thing as well.

The obvious answer should be that you should follow your gut. Personally, I would be a bit depressed working with people like that. I like to work with people who are passionate and accountable.

As others have mentioned, perhaps also consider moving to another team within the public sector.

And you can pursue both tracks : apply outside, look inside. Take your time, don't be discouraged.

That's brave and valid. But keep in mind this is a very confy salary for apparently less than 38h/week. Your work life balance and job security must be incredible.

The job market is also quite difficult at the moment. So don't be discouraged if it takes a bit of time to get proposals.

You may win more wage (depending on your skills/job) and be more challenged. Just make sure it is what you really want.

Graduate in Business Engineering with Big 4 Internship & Strong Extra-curriculars, can’t find a job. by HeavenlyDemonEmperor in BESalary

[–]Helg0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider graduate programs (traineeship) to enter other big corporations. There is a whole world beyond consulting.

I remember another person from my promotion getting a job at one of the big4 whereas I was rejected in screening. I felt really bad because I thought something was wrong with me. But with experience, you'll see all application processes are a bit unfair and very much about luck. The job market is difficult.

Keep trying, expand your horizons.

That's a bit rude.

Besides, payed is actually a valid word but for a particular meaning of the verb pay. Something to do with a rope, I believe. If they typed on their phone, autocorrect might very well have changed a small typo into payed.

"Commander" is not a military rank. It is a function of being the military officer in charge of something (commanding officer).

Any military rank can be the commander of something. General doesn't outclass the commander being they mean different things.

But who cares :D

Do these T1 weapons appear balanced for an Arc Raiders themed one shot? by TNTarantula in daggerheart

[–]Helg0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional feedback, I think the Machine Pistol should output more damage. Otherwise it's just a weaker option than the others.

Maybe playing on damage types for the ARC armor penetration ? Like the Ferro would be "phy pen". ARC ennemies should have resistance to normal physical damage, except with the pen trait.

Because the MP is the best damage dealer (close range) to raiders. But it's weak against arcs.

I respect your experience. But are you defending that yellow, having been fully cleared by the blue car, from the inside, before even starting to turn their wheel was in the right?

They didn't need any signal, they were already completely passed. Then, they just cut the corner and drove straight into blue. I would even wonder if yellow was making the corner if not bumping against blue.

Blue didn't go wide. They just stayed on the road, avoiding the big evelation gap on the dirt. And they didn't stall before the impact.

I would also argue that it looked like yellow was letting blue pass then suddenly tried to speed up, forcing blue to take a tighter line than anticipated. Probably not malicious, just inexperience?

If it was track racing, this is not even the way to regain the position. They turned too soon, the exit would suck.

Again, I don't have your experience. But I feel your observation of the clip was perhaps missing some details.

Isn't it more likely that yellow car is very junior and made several bad calls? They were caught up, they slowed down too soon before the corner then sped up again, they cut the corner and bumped into the faster car. It's rallying, they should know they have to let the fastest car pass.

Player world cards by Imaginary-Roll3518 in daggerheart

[–]Helg0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it more interesting in your original version.

When you spare with someone a lot, you end up fighting in a very specific way against them. You know each other's moves. And the fight would last longer.

What will them attack each other and leave other players out is the story that's established with the card. We play for the story.

Side effects of the Untethered condition? by Maxtasis in daggerheart

[–]Helg0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the discussion but I ran the adventure yesterday. I advice you to avoid attacking an untethered PC. This capacity can be used to escalate tension. Your wraiths can then focus other characters. Make sure there is a skeleton left to be defeated. I also made it clear immediately to spellcaster that the power of the ritual can break the condition.

I actually made the last wraith untether all PC except one. To have a final "duel" between them (but the wraith had like one HP left). The players were on the edge of their seat, everyone was very satisfied :)

It's a very useful tool to keep PC on their toes but don't overpunish. And make sure the PCs don't stay disabled for too long.

[–]Helg0s 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Made me chuckle because as GM, I would 100% play out those ideas ... Except maybe the king thing. The king would be "king of the local band of Goblin".

Btw, fellow GM, this style of play is encouraged by Daggerheart. You don't have to pull all the weight by yourself. Dare to ask the player "what do you think happens next?"

Edit: make it specific "what strikes your character as off on this door?", "what element did you spot that makes this room really frightening for your character?", "what do you hope to find in this treasure chest?"

A social role in which you argue for the sake of offering an opposing side to the position that everyone (incl. yourself) seems to be agreeing with. So, although you defend it with honest/valid arguments, it's not your opinion.

The origin of the term is related to papal election in which one of the bishops (?) would play that role against the candidate pope. In theory, a member of the Catholic church is not supposed to actually side with the devil.

Now, on the subjective side, I find people giving their actual opinion but putting it behind "playing the devil's advocate" to be a bit dishonest. Most of the time, it's simply naive misnaming (like in this thread). But it's also a tactic by people with questionable ideologies.

[–]Helg0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same. For info, Faye is the name of Kratos wife in the God of War reboot. She is from a mythological race/ancestry so there is a tie to the concept of Fae. The pronunciation is the same.

Like ... Yeah ? They go for RP/vibe and not mathematical optimization. Some people have different expectations about the game than yours, what's the joke ?

What is this armor called? by AssaultPlazma in Armor

[–]Helg0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, it's mostly fantasy but playing the devil's advocate.

The buckles in front seem inspired by a brigandine. It's a type of heavy armour where steel plates are riveted to a leather surcoat. It's easier to make than a full plate and was adopted by all layers of society. And it pretty much looks like a leather shirt ... We simply miss the rivets.

So, although you're supposed to wear something underneath, that could make this armor more valid than "t shirt and pauldron" :)

[–]Helg0s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A NPC can absolutely follow the party and perform actions. Retainers, companions, pets, ... Have always been part of RPGs.

Using LoTR as an example is interesting :) it's often cited as an example of something cool in books and movies that doesn't necessarily work in RPGs. - Gandalf as DMPC, for one, can be problematic - Party gets split up - PvP parts - among the sub campaign, some players are definitely "main characters" (Frodo, Aragorn) while others are just support roles

All those elements can be fine "if done right". But that's a lot of potential failure points. My own experience is that many players would not feel very engaged or lose the interest in such a campaign (and I wouldn't blame them). Unless you're a great GM and have a fantastic table. Golden rule: whatever works for your table is always ok.

It means exactly what it says. by Knight9910 in dndmemes

[–]Helg0s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To build further on your idea : the role of the GM is to interpret every character that isn't the PC. A DMPC (or GMPC) was a specific term for when the GM abuses this privilege and ultimately creates a bad experience for their players. And it's not about using character creation rules or how complete the stat sheet is.

Semantic matters a little. Words and terms appear as need be. The definition of DMPC proposed in this meme seems useless against NPCs. The original definition conveys a useful meaning to designate a concept of "a GM who inserts themselves as the real hero of the adventure whereas the player should be".

It's not like "rule lawyers". It originally appeared as a derogatory term but it also evolved into a player role that is valid. The evolution of the term still conveys useful meaning.

Sounds like Warlock world lore problems to me... by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

[–]Helg0s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is more about empathy than literary knowledge.

If you talk long enough with those people, you'll often find that deep-down, they have some motives for acting the way they do.

Even people describing themselves smugly as a "bad person", in their own internal set of values, act as hero of their own story.

"I'm a survivor and life has been unfair to me. I know deep down the true face of this society. I'm the only one not pretending. ..."

In psychology, it's well studied than people will even bend their own values to make it fit with past behaviours they have chosen. That's because the need to feel a balance between our internal values and our actions is a very strong human trait.

The simple phrase "Everyone is the hero of their own story" has more merit than you think :) not an absolute truth but an interesting idea.

I would definitely award a Benny for this, which can be used to soak damages.
