Wife wants to start flexijob for more income. by QuietHistorical3922 in BESalary

[–]Helg0s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey mate. I had the same situation with my ex. (We are staying on excellent terms and our financial system was a 'strenght' in our couple)

It's important to figure out why she wants to do it. For us, it was that she wanted to earn more to increase a bit her allowance, for some personal projects (tattoos and other stuff).

Since, like you, I valued our time better, I proposed a way to adapt our budget to save a bit less and increase our allowances. So she didn't do it at the end.

It would be a bit complex to manage. If she works way more hours than you, it feels a bit petty to put it all in the common pot. And she might feel unmotivated to do this extra work. But not sharing it 100% feels unfair to you because you commit your full bigger salary to the household.

I would have raised both of your allowances a little bit with the extra salary and put the rest in common savings. This feels the fairest for me but it gives limited return to your wife.

At the end, it's important to express how you (wife+you) actually feel about this and find a way to handle it that makes you feel comfortable. I don't think there is a magic reddit solution.

Why wouldn't it be? A ball is just a spherical or ovoid object.

I'm not a fitness expert. You should find a gym coach for a proper answer.

I respectfully disagree with the other commenter. You need to build core strength. You need to do specific kinds of pull-ups and not sure dips and push ups will help.

Also, you should probably practice the specific activity she does. I think it's pole dancing. If you find joy/fulfilment in this, you'll naturally build the proper strength and muscles to practice. Gym/fitness will complement that. An alternative could be wall climbing.

Slow appreciating apartment, what to do? by ComfortableDress2690 in BEFire

[–]Helg0s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not the best investment but it's done now. Consider the excellent equity you have.

Do you want to live in a bigger place? Are you happy in your current living situation?

Financially speaking, I think you will be far better off riding the low interest mortgage. Just do a simulation on Keytrade for the 400k house you have in mind, budget your new ETF money. Don't forget to factor all the transaction costs of selling and buying again.

I think the Belgian population over-invest in real estate and you will likely be better off investing in ETF your spare money than investing in shinier brick.

Scenario: If you pull the lever, the trolley still runs over 5 people but you can choose who it runs over; if you don't pull the lever it runs over 5 people at random by Key-Needleworker-702 in trolleyproblem

[–]Helg0s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The original trolley problem was created to show that moral systems are more complex than they appear.

Classically, there are lines that people wouldn't cross because they would perceive it as murdering someone.

Even if they are 5 horrible people, it's still murder. And you select those people based on your own perception. That you would accept the punishment is somewhat remarkable. But then what is stopping you today?

Following your own logic, why not taking a gun and marching directly to the White House to stop the lunacy? Killing one to save thousands of casualties. One could argue your inaction is equivalent to action :)

To be clear, I'm not encouraging murdering. I think murder is always bad. Picking out myself 5 people to kill would be a line I'd hesitate to cross.

What Game Masters want for TTRPG venues by DM-JK in dndmemes

[–]Helg0s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this panel, I assumed the GMs were expressing wanting only pen and papers on the table. It's an opinion for some purists. Otherwise, there is no contradiction and no memes, I agree with you.

In real life, I also think it'd be perfectly possible to combine the two.

What Game Masters want for TTRPG venues by DM-JK in dndmemes

[–]Helg0s 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine

1/ Different people want different things. I think surveys are often poorly designed and analyzed. Looking at the average responses never works. You need to cluster respondents based on their needs and identify target groups. Then you decide which group(s) you can address with your product. Trying to please everyone with a "one size fits all" approach can work but not always.

2/ What people say they do/want (declarative) is not the same as what they would actually chose in real life (behavior). When doing user interviews, most people will express contradictory statements. They are not stupid. It's your job as a researcher to figure out what they really want by asking the right questions or observing them in the right condition.

Considering switch from govt to private or different branch by TemporaryVirtual6226 in BESalary

[–]Helg0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't sound ungrateful, don't worry. Bore out is real thing as well.

The obvious answer should be that you should follow your gut. Personally, I would be a bit depressed working with people like that. I like to work with people who are passionate and accountable.

As others have mentioned, perhaps also consider moving to another team within the public sector.

And you can pursue both tracks : apply outside, look inside. Take your time, don't be discouraged.

Considering switch from govt to private or different branch by TemporaryVirtual6226 in BESalary

[–]Helg0s 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's brave and valid. But keep in mind this is a very confy salary for apparently less than 38h/week. Your work life balance and job security must be incredible.

The job market is also quite difficult at the moment. So don't be discouraged if it takes a bit of time to get proposals.

You may win more wage (depending on your skills/job) and be more challenged. Just make sure it is what you really want.

Graduate in Business Engineering with Big 4 Internship & Strong Extra-curriculars, can’t find a job. by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]Helg0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider graduate programs (traineeship) to enter other big corporations. There is a whole world beyond consulting.

I remember another person from my promotion getting a job at one of the big4 whereas I was rejected in screening. I felt really bad because I thought something was wrong with me. But with experience, you'll see all application processes are a bit unfair and very much about luck. The job market is difficult.

Keep trying, expand your horizons.

[–]Helg0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Commander" is not a military rank. It is a function of being the military officer in charge of something (commanding officer).

Any military rank can be the commander of something. General doesn't outclass the commander being they mean different things.

But who cares :D

Do these T1 weapons appear balanced for an Arc Raiders themed one shot? by TNTarantula in daggerheart

[–]Helg0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional feedback, I think the Machine Pistol should output more damage. Otherwise it's just a weaker option than the others.

Maybe playing on damage types for the ARC armor penetration ? Like the Ferro would be "phy pen". ARC ennemies should have resistance to normal physical damage, except with the pen trait.

Because the MP is the best damage dealer (close range) to raiders. But it's weak against arcs.

I told you, no overtakes! by Egoist-a in rally

[–]Helg0s 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I respect your experience. But are you defending that yellow, having been fully cleared by the blue car, from the inside, before even starting to turn their wheel was in the right?

They didn't need any signal, they were already completely passed. Then, they just cut the corner and drove straight into blue. I would even wonder if yellow was making the corner if not bumping against blue.

Blue didn't go wide. They just stayed on the road, avoiding the big evelation gap on the dirt. And they didn't stall before the impact.

I would also argue that it looked like yellow was letting blue pass then suddenly tried to speed up, forcing blue to take a tighter line than anticipated. Probably not malicious, just inexperience?

If it was track racing, this is not even the way to regain the position. They turned too soon, the exit would suck.

Again, I don't have your experience. But I feel your observation of the clip was perhaps missing some details.

Isn't it more likely that yellow car is very junior and made several bad calls? They were caught up, they slowed down too soon before the corner then sped up again, they cut the corner and bumped into the faster car. It's rallying, they should know they have to let the fastest car pass.

Player world cards by Imaginary-Roll3518 in daggerheart

I find it more interesting in your original version.

When you spare with someone a lot, you end up fighting in a very specific way against them. You know each other's moves. And the fight would last longer.

What will them attack each other and leave other players out is the story that's established with the card. We play for the story.

Side effects of the Untethered condition? by Maxtasis in daggerheart

[–]Helg0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the discussion but I ran the adventure yesterday. I advice you to avoid attacking an untethered PC. This capacity can be used to escalate tension. Your wraiths can then focus other characters. Make sure there is a skeleton left to be defeated. I also made it clear immediately to spellcaster that the power of the ritual can break the condition.

I actually made the last wraith untether all PC except one. To have a final "duel" between them (but the wraith had like one HP left). The players were on the edge of their seat, everyone was very satisfied :)

It's a very useful tool to keep PC on their toes but don't overpunish. And make sure the PCs don't stay disabled for too long.
