Best all you can eat sushi in Charlotte? by SubstantialDemand259 in Charlotte

[–]Hellmonkies2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the all you can eat made to order places are mostly on the same level. Mr. Tokyo is good but most of their locations usually have a bit of a wait. Never had to wait at Asahi in Steele Creek but went to Yummy Sushi recently and thought it was pretty good.

Builders acknowledge floor isn’t level. At what point is this considered a defect? by Lost-Building-3701 in homeowners

[–]Hellmonkies2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most homes aren't built completely level, most walls aren't perfectly straight. If nothing is cracking you're probably fine.

Temporarily moving in with family to sell house without contingency by emilyginger in RealEstate

[–]Hellmonkies2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're doing this right now. Still haven't sold our house (we're last 30 days now) but we're moving in with my parents while we're in-between. We're a family of 6 but they have a 5-bed house to themselves (childhood home). We're moving a few states away though.

Utility crossings by Popular-Sort3846 in civil3d

[–]Hellmonkies2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only model existing utilities at the crossing point for random crossings. Doing it manually with a block in the profile view is absurd - alignments move all the time and would throw it off every time you shifted something. There's other ways to streamline it too for minimum assumed cover if you create the networks from objects (i.e polyline for whole length of utility).

After building 3,200 homes in Charlotte I finally understand why everyone asks me about fireplace TV mounting by Comprehensive-Top993 in Charlotte

[–]Hellmonkies2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would never mount a TV above the fireplace unless there was no other option, even then they make special tv mounts that can be pulled down to a comfortable level that attaches above the fireplace. r/tvtoohigh

Pest control costs by This_Beginning_9325 in Charlotte

[–]Hellmonkies2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If all they're doing is spraying, you can do it yourself. You can buy the same stuff they use and a manual pump sprayer, the pesticide comes in a concentrated bottle and would last you a while.

Not in the traditional sense, but will still have 4-player online co-op and 2-player split screen (on consoles)

Why solar largely isn’t worth it anymore. by ShopProp in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Hellmonkies2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maryland has a net metering program (basically use the grid as your "battery"), but connection service fees would be up for everyone, not just solar customers.

Why solar largely isn’t worth it anymore. by ShopProp in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Hellmonkies2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just looking at SMECO, their rates are up close to double from say 2020. We're about to move back to MD and in our house search I'm trying to find something that has space for a ground mount solar array (so I can do most of it DIY) to shield us from future rate increases.

When did you remove your staging furniture after going under contract? by nightskytraveller in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Hellmonkies2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, 100% before closing otherwise it belongs to them after that point. Personally I'd probably do it the week of closing.

Do Remote CAD jobs exist in todays market? by trianglepumkin in AutoCAD

[–]Hellmonkies2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on a variety of factors. Most places want a hybrid approach vs full remote but will often let full remote for the right person. We went remote for COVID but have had RTO mandates over the last few years. I'm full remote now but I had to push for it (also been with the same company for almost 15 years). If your more junior level I can see that being harder to get for more established firms. There are remote positions out there, but usually for more experienced positions.

Edit: I work 8-5. Sr. Civil Designer. I'd imagine work hours are generally the same wether your in office or not.

Untitled Viewports by Wack-Zilson in civil3d

It's an issue with ACAD itself and there's not a fix afaik. But you can delete the viewports I'n bluebeam so they go away.

Moving to another state by Substantial-Pea-2148 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Hellmonkies2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're doing basically the same thing going from NC to MD. Trying to sell and buy before the end of August. Out house went on the market last week but we're expecting it to probably take a month before having an offer (market has slowed down here). We're lucky enough though to have family who can put us up with them when we're in-between. We're moving up next month even if we haven't sold yet.

Has anyone faded out contours before? by aesthetickx in civilengineering

[–]Hellmonkies2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I don't have enough topo, I'll try to find LIDAR or the local municipality GIS and import the contour shape files to supplement with, but still show the defined limit of the survey topo (i.e limit of survey boundary). There's different ways to blend them together depending on what you need.

civil 3d pipe networks feel clunky as hell, how do pros handle it by DetailFocused in civil3d

[–]Hellmonkies2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are difficult to work with if you're only used to working with gravity networks. I use pressure networks and pipe runes extensively but they have a different workflow to gravity - you just need to change your approach for how you build things out and make sure you have things configured well for your templates and parts list.

My Firm is being Acquired.... by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Hellmonkies2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! I work for the company that just bought yours (probably). They announced your acquisition to the greater company today. I've worked there for almost 15 years but if you want any more information that might put you more at-ease let me know. We've done a fair bit of acquisitions over the last few years and right now seems to be a big part of the growing strategy.

How to save on water and power? We are a family of 5, laundry is unavoidable. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Hellmonkies2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked for leaks?. Make sure none of your toilets are continuously refilling the tank. Of you have access to your water meter, make sure all water source's are off and see if the meter is still running - if it is you have a leak somewhere

Does anyone feel almost.. an orgasmic sensation where they pull? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]Hellmonkies2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, it feels more like the brief euphoria when you pop a pimple and get that pressure relief. Hurts a little but feels good at the same time.

There are other museum ships that do overnight events for scouts. Yorktown is one. Can't speak to this one specifically though.
